welove2cruise* Posted September 21, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 21, 2011 Are the luggage porters cruise ship employees (we are sailing NCL)? If so, can we tip them in US dollars rather than euro?
Langley Cruisers Posted September 21, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 21, 2011 They are not employees of the cruise line, and if you are asking sincerely, it is my opinion they would appreciate their own currency. Consider someone tipping in Euros in the United States... would it be welcomed? Probably not (not being facetious, but making a point). You'll need Euros for Europe anyway. You can get some from your home bank before you leave, or use one of the many ATM's in Barcelona. We did that and it was fast and easy. :)
Ashland Posted September 21, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 21, 2011 We always tip the luggage handlers at the cruiseport..however on our most recent cruise 2 weeks ago out of Barcelona (and we were prepared with Euros) things moved sooooo fast we didn't have a chance to, he grabbed our bags handed them off and he moved on quickly..not exactly what we're used to when sailing out of Port Everglades or Miami.... wcook Posted September 22, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 22, 2011 Given a choice between being tipped in USD, and not being tipped, they would rather be tipped in USD. Tipping in Euros would be even better.
eh2zed Posted September 22, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 22, 2011 Definitely Euros maybe 1E per bag.
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 22, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 22, 2011 A tip would be the right thing to do and I really would tip them in Euros. After all, you are in Spain not in another country such as the USA. Keith
KirkNC Posted September 22, 2011 #7 Share Posted September 22, 2011 Ditto, 1 euro per bag. Kirk
GlendaleCruiser Posted September 23, 2011 #8 Share Posted September 23, 2011 I don't think it even occurred to me to tip in a currency other than the one which is used where they lived. That's just common courtesy. Of course, Euros......................
letsgo39 Posted September 23, 2011 #9 Share Posted September 23, 2011 Euros of course. That is their currency. You wouldn't tip in Euros at a U.S. port would you?
