suzyed Posted January 27, 2012 #76 Share Posted January 27, 2012 LOL!! I bet he would agree, as long as you share!! ;) BTW: haven't had the Magnificat of recent vintage, but it's always been delicious in the past. If you're Jewish, you'll need a special dispensation from the Pope to partake! steve

Rare JimmyVWine Posted January 27, 2012 #78 Share Posted January 27, 2012 Why?What could possibly be in it that wouldn't be ok? It's not about what's "in" it, as it is a typical Bordeaux blend. It is about the name. "Magnificat" is a very old, very Christian hymn/canticle that dates back centuries to the earliest Christian worship. The wine was supposedly named for a piece written by Bach of the same name.
Cobra427SC Posted January 28, 2012 #79 Share Posted January 28, 2012 thanx JimVWine for explaining my joke. As usual, I'm not as clever or funny as I think I am! steve (not Christian, but I do love Bach!)

CMHCruiseCouple Posted February 6, 2012 #81 Share Posted February 6, 2012 Wine is one of our pleasures, and we are fairly pleased with the quality of selections as various price points. In the last two years I met the "first" Sommelier in the Princess fleet, or that is how he described himself. He told us the goal was to hire several more for select ships to increase wine knowledge. By making wine less intimidating folks can enjoy the joys of the fruit and increase sales. In 2008 my wife and I were introduced to Don Maxaminio Founder's Reserve, an incredible wine from Chile. Our waiter, Rene, was from Chile and wanted to share this wine with pride. While hard to find in the U.S., it has been available on every Princess cruise we've taken since. We always take home a few extra bottles; the prices are on par with land based purchases, if you can find the wine at all.
Rare fun_one Posted May 4, 2012 #82 Share Posted May 4, 2012 We have sailed Princess in the past but not recently (usually sail RCCL) and I could not remember what kind of wine packages they have. Does anyone have any information on that? The RCCL packages don't have great selections although you do save money by going with the package if you are going to drink throughout your cruise. Thanks! Alaskanb Posted January 1, 2013 #83 Share Posted January 1, 2013 Reviving this thread... My husband does not drink wine etc for medical reasons. I enjoy one glass with a meal. If I were to choose from this list I would probably go with the Round Hill or another merlot. We will be on a 10 day cruise --how would this hold up over several days? BTW --I'm quite happy with Flip Flop chilean merlot from Walmart--quite nice after it has breathed for a while. Our local New Mexican winery, St Clair, makes a lovely meritage :)

BTW --I'm quite happy with Flip Flop chilean merlot from Walmart--lovely after it has breathed for a while. I sail solo. When I buy bottles at dinner, I'm usually finishing them up in two nights -- never had one last longer than that! That said, though, I would not imagine that the wine would be good much beyond that -- maybe you could squeeze a third night out of it, since they do seem to recork them well, and they're probably not storing them in the boiler room! You might be probably better off buying it by the glass if you're just going to drink one glass (such self-control!) per meal.

Astro Flyer Posted January 9, 2013 #86 Share Posted January 9, 2013 That's what I did on the last cruise and it probably would be the best route to go. Thanks. We had no problems with using a bottle over 2 or 3 days and they do have a separate storage area in the galley to store the recorked bottles. Here's a copy of the 2011 wine list which I think is similar in selection & price to the current one. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=251693&d=1352761977

NanD Posted September 14, 2013 #88 Share Posted September 14, 2013 Found this thread trying to determine if Ruby Princess has had wine package in the Med this summer. Couldn't confirm that, but can tell you Ocean Princess offered the package on their 12/18/2012 Tahiti cruise. Nan
