So, tell me about the Glory...

DH (37) and I (34) are taking our first cruise in March aboard the Glory to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We are leaving out of Miami and visiting Cozumel, Belize, Roatan, and Grand Cayman. I was wondering if those of you who have sailed on the Glory could give use some feeback on your experience with the ship, helpful tips, and whatever else you think we should know ahead of time. Would love to hear lots of positives and not so many negatives. Fire away.....

I did the New England/Canada cruise on the Glory in October and posted a review with a number of pictures of the Glory:

I also did a 15 min. video of our cruise, also with a lot of video of the ship:

We loved the Glory! Sailed her in back to back years; same room too!

Click on the link in my signature on the Glory.

You'll love the ship! Just don't get frustrated when you can't get from the front of the ship to the back on the restaurant levels without going back UP and then over and down. You'll learn; it only takes the first day.

Have fun!

Loved it so much in April Im going again in January! :D Food, service, everything was great. No negatives here! We were on the Lido deck and didnt have any problems navigating the ship like others have talked about so I am booked on the Lido again.

Never could figure it out! Always confounded me. Even sailed the Freedom before the Glory, still went down the wrong set of stairs. :(

We sailed on her once and will agin this coming June.

The lay out can be confusing, but it didn't take us long to figure it out.

The Red Sail buffet seemed very spacious and we never had to wait too long in lines. Can't remember our wait staff for My Time dining but, they were great.

The first day just take some time to wander around and get familiar with places.

When the lines are long at the buffet, which is common, go up the stairs to the fish n chips. Lots of people don't know it's up there, especially in the beginning of the cruise, so it's never crowded.

Also, Glory has the BEST cruise director we have had so far!

We were on the Glory a year ago and found that people were standing in the fish n chip line waiting for it to open.....the secret is out:p

Check out the reviews. Mine is posted out there. Took the exact same cruise a few weeks ago. Had a great time.

Besides the Fish and Chips don't forget the deli and Burrito bar. We never saw any lines at the Fish and Chips.

Staff was as nice as could be.

Go and have fun!

  • 2 weeks later...

We loved to Glory. Took the same intinerary as you back in Nov.

There are refrigerators in all cabins. We had an inside cabin on deck 8 foward - great, nice size, and quiet.

The crew is outstanding. There are two bartenders in the casino - Diana from Peru and a small, older, guy with glasses from India (can't spell his name) - I wanted to take both of them home with me - everytime they saw me heading to the bar, one of them would get my drink and have it sitting on the bar by the time I sat down, and I only drank soda, with a soda card, and still got that kind of service.

The band that plays in the blue bar or in front of the casino (they kept moving them) - are the best.

The disco was nice, good music, but the DJ is terrable - had two songs playing at the same time most of the time.

On deck 6 and 7 foward are the "secret" doors - nice small deck to watch the sunset and almost always empty.

Food I thought was great. I hambergers at the grill, fish and chips, and mongolian grill were my favs. Everything else a close second.

The comidian from cuba - I never laughed so hard in my life.

Ports were good - we just explored on our own at each stop. Missed GC - rough seas - In less than an hour after leaving, the crew was passing out new "fun times" and kept everyone buzy all day.

What else can I tell you? I have my "fun times" some where

We are also sailing on her again in March

This is probably our favorite ship and by far our favorite itinerary. You have to try the deli (I love the pastrami on rye) and the burrito bar ,I tipped the cook $1 when I ordered and asked him to surprise me and always had a awesome burrito. The fish and chips are good too

The ports we went to Nachi cocum in cozumel (we have been there 3 times )do a search on here and find all the details.

Belize we did cave tubing .Its fun once but will not do it again

Grand Caymen we took a cheap taxi to Calico Jacks ,its a little beach bar with clean bathrooms and plenty of beach to relax and always taxis waiting to take you back to the ship

Roatans my favorite. We took a tour for the day and ended up at Bananarama ,by far the best beach we have ever seen

The Glory was a pretty decent ship in my opinion. To be honest, it was my least favorite so far, however I'm sure we wouldn't hesitate sailing on her again. Overall I just wasn't a fan of the layout or the decor...also it seemed fairly run down. Nothing overwhelmingly bad. :)

The staff was fantastic though...wasn't a fan of the cruise director, Jay Pepper.

Here are a few things tips we got when we went on her in 2008. Sorry for any repeat items.

  • It was great you have to do the supper club not to be missed some of the best food I've had and the cost is well worth it.
  • Don't miss the chocolate buffet at lunch last sea day lido
  • Just remember, if you have the Platinum dining room, you have to go down to it from the decks above, or up from the decks below via the rear elevators/stairs. This is due to the galley taking up the entire width of the ship on that deck. That seems to be the biggest problem people have with Carnival's ships
  • Also, keep in mind that they serve breakfast and lunch in the main dining room. If you get to the lido buffet and it's really busy (it will be during lunch) you can always eat in the dining room. You'll have a waiter, and it won't be crowded. Sometimes it's nice not fighting the crowd.
  • Secret Decks - walk to the very front of the ship and look for the unmarked door that goes to the outside. Our favorites were decks 6 and 7. The door to the deck 6 balcony was on the left of the ship (facing forward) and the door the some of the other decks were on the right side. There were two other decks below us on the 6th floor but they were roped off for crew only. People who weren't crew did sneak down there though. These are the best places to watch the sunsets, ships going in and leaving ports. Many times, we were the only people out there! Secret doors are the best! Especially when you just want to escape the crowds! DH and I made it a habit to go out the secret door on the Empress Deck on the Glory every night of our cruise and watch the sunset.
  • Always navigate on deck 5--it goes across the ship. Go to which side of the ship you need on deck 5, then use the elevators to go up or down from there
  • You can go all the way forward on the upper decks and find a nice quiet spot at the very bow of the Ship. My favorite was on the Panorama Deck. Go all the way forward and there are exits on either side. They turn those lights off at night and the night sky is awesome from this view point. There is an equipment locker of some kind on the Panorama Deck that makes a great Bench so that you will have a seat. Not too many people there. I ran into mostly crew as I enjoyed this on my last Cruise. Enjoy!
  • Other fun things: Rum tastings, Hairy Chest contest, What's in the Bag, The big slide!
  • If you plan on going to the captain's cocktail reception-- GO EARLY! It fills up fast and you will never get any appetizers, drinks or a seat if you are late
  • The casino closes at 2am
  • get several of the cereal boxes at breakfast(Frosted Flakes work best). Before you get in the water, take the "waterproof" wax bags out of the boxes and take them in with you. When you want the fish to come close, for great pics etc., tear the corner off the little bags and squeeze you have great fish food. Just remember to tuck the empty bags in your swim suit to return to the boat and don't leave them behind in the water
  • The Azure Lido Pool is by the stern and has a retractable glass roof
  • Golf facilities include a somewhat whimsical miniature gold course
  • a gym with exercise equipment overlooking the bow
  • most impressive facility is the spa pool located under a glass ceiling in a grotto-like setting
  • The ship's disco is White Heat. It has a futuristic decor with hundreds of video screens surrounding the bar and the dance floor
  • There are plenty of places to get away from the crowds, if you do some exploring. The higher decks never seemed crowded, and many times were sparsely populated. The forward observation areas on 6,7, 9 and 10 were almost vacant most of the time. I don't like crowds myself, and never had to be bothered with them. I didn't find the elevator landings to be poorly lit either, and I even looked at the ship maps or diagrams in the landings myself. The atrium is actually quite large, and a very nice place. The ever changing light display above the atrium is a real treat to watch.
  • As for the layout, I've never found it a problem on the Conquest class ships, and I've spent 5 weeks on them so far. All you have to remember is that you cannot go forward and aft on decks 3 and 4. That's really all there is to it. They have to put the galley somewhere. Passenger decks, deck 5, or 11 is the way to move from one end of the ship to the other.
  • The luggage express is available on this ship. Eligibility requirements are as follows: Flying out of the Orlando International Airport on the same day the ship arrives back in port with flights between 12:00 noon and 23:59PM. In the event of a connection flight, guests must have the same booking locator number. Only domestic flights, international flights do not qualify .Participating airlines are :American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Air Tran, Continental Airlines, Jet Blue, Northwest Airlines, Alaska Airlines, United Airlines and US airways. Each person participating has to complete the registration form and have it in to the purser’s desk by 1:00 p.m. on Friday. It is $15 per person to participate with a maximum of 2 bags per person.
  • Purser's Information Desk - midship

Hours: open 24 hours Information Desk: information, inquiries, financial transactions, Lost and Found,

Information on ports-of-call and shore excursions, purchase of shore excursions. International pursers

assist guests with general information in a variety of languages.

I constantly got stuck at the MDR until I found you could walk through it to get where you meant to be.

Pretty nice ship, lots of color! ===> Ever-changing colors...you'll see.

Kinda odd layout though --got confusing at times..:)

Check out Glory's deck plans thoroughly and often...

...before you cruise and avoid above-mentioned minor frustrations

involving access to aft dining room.

(The galley blocks parts of Decks 3 and 4 only, not the entire ship.)

Where is your cabin? Where are the dining rooms?

How are you going to get to/from the dining rooms?

Along what decks?
