nobog Posted December 21, 2011 #59 Share Posted December 21, 2011 Was in room 6143, probably the nicest concierge class room on the ship (just home yesterday). Yes, this is the room with the extra 8" width. So.. new flat screen, new carpet, new bed (which I loved but the DW said was to hard) and the HUGE deck. Rust on some bathroom hardware, mirror starting do delaminate from the backside. The sewer smell didn't help but after a couple of days that went away. All the "Soltisizing" didn't really add anything (let the bashing begin..) Of course there is the fancy frozen bar and some general clean up (which Celebrity claims cost $40M). The glass panel on the deck rattled continuosly as it was secure with coat hanger wire, a couple of toothpicks wedged in there stopped the noise. All the canvas deck covering needs replacement on the entire ship. Looking aft, you can actually see holes rusted through the pipe secureing the canvas covering. They took the mini theater out! No movies. Cruise was excellent, food excellent, service excellent - mostly - new crew and it took a couple of days to get in sync, cruise directory (Steve) was personable, shows good (just hard to find a good comedian these days). The buffet remains the "walk two city blocks" to see what they have. Anyway, standard Celebrity (which is good) but just don't expect an Eclipse class ship. Jim ps - pizza was excellent

No movies. Sounds like they've attended to most things. Hopefully they'll get to the others as time permits. Regarding the cinema, I thought the revised deck plans showed a smaller, reconfigured Conference Center with 9 or so rows of seating. Did you see that area? Is it possible they just weren't quite ready yet to resume showing films? CM
nobog Posted December 21, 2011 #65 Share Posted December 21, 2011 They had the SKY Conference center with flexible partitions but nothing that looked like a theater. Most of that section of the ship had additional staterooms added which turns your hallway into a major "north/south" artery through the ship for that level. Also, they took one level of the library out and it was replace with the Apple iLounge (computer room). Book selection was minimal at best. Oddly, they left the spiral stairs connecting the 2 rooms intact which seems worthless considering that the main center stairway is (literally) less than 20 feet away. The library needs more books. The computer room needs more computers. Eliminating the stairs would add 20% more room to both. As I mentioned, if the Eclipse class ship is a 10, on a relative scale I would rate the Infinity as a 5 or a 6, its simply not in the same leauge. Just because they said it has been "Solsticized" don't expect the same thing. Jim
Christine Frances Posted December 21, 2011 #66 Share Posted December 21, 2011 I love the S Class and the M Class both for different reasons. I hope the M Class we know and love is still the same but with S features added. I am excited as we have reservations in Qsine, will be at the new Martini Bar & Micheal's, looking forward to seeing the new pool deck, and the new colour schemes (fabrics/carpets) in the common areas and cabins. I don't expect to feel like we are back on the Equinox but on the Infinity with a face lift:D
Dan Askin Posted December 21, 2011 #67 Share Posted December 21, 2011 Sorry guys -- got buried in newsland (the unexpected discovery that Monarch of the Seas failed its November CDC inspection, followed by Disney's unexpected cancellation of more Mexico cruises.) sanjoseca Posted December 22, 2011 #68 Share Posted December 22, 2011 Does anyone know if the Stateroom bathrooms were rebuilt? On Our September trip on infinity the shower stall had broken, cracked tiles with missing grout. The shower walls had black mold in several places. It really looked gross and it pissed me off that Celebrity expected us to accept a cabin in that condition. Solsticizing should have been done several years ago. JetAway Posted December 22, 2011 #70 Share Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) I just returned from the Dec. 3 Panama Canal/S. America cruise on Infinity. I was in Aqua Class and the bathrooms were totally refurbished, including new tile work and a double glass door to the shower. Carpets, upholstery curtains, everything was brand new (except built-in cabinets). Blu was wonderful--as good if not better than any other ship restaurant I've eaten in. Every public room except the Casino was refurbished or remodeled in some (extensive) fashion. The ship is a knock-out, a true Solstice mini-me. We were able to examine the newly-installed aft AQ cabins only from the outside as they were roped off while undergoing finishing touches. Personally, I would not want to book one of the cabins that are above the rear deck because of possible noise, smoking and privacy issues. However, the side cabins looked as if they would afford significant privacy with no noise problems because no one would be above. Unfortunately, our room on deck 9 was directly below the grill area of the pool deck and was quite noisy during the day and on the evening of deck parties. We tried both Qsine as well as the SS United States specialty restaurants. Each was enjoyable although I don't think there is $40 pp. worth of difference between Blu and SS United States (which is no longer classical French but instead is some kind of hybrid modern continental cuisine). All of the new venues (Cellar Masters, Bistro on 5, the Martini Bar, etc.) are close copies of their equivalents on the Solstice Class ships. The cruise itself was excellent, the ports and excursions interesting and well managed. Although I generally hate bus tours, ours were enjoyable and it seemed that Celebrity intentionally never filled the buses to capacity, resulting in room for everyone to comfortably spread out. We had such a great time we are now considering an Asian cruise after the Millennium is fitted with AQ staterooms.
