djmess Posted December 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2011 I've been Platinum Lattitudes for the last few cruises I've taken. I think the concierge service is a new benefit for this level. I've also never cruised in a Suite, so never had the concierge services. Well, here are the questions. Has anyone that is now Platinum and not a Suite guest used this new Perk? Is their a Concierge station like at a nice Hotel maybe in the lobby, or is it the same Concierge that the Suite members have? Finally, what will the concierge do for the Platinum members? Will it be the same stuff they do for the Suite guests? Thanks for all your help everyone

Will it be the same stuff they do for the Suite guests? Thanks for all your help everyone We used the concierge only for priority disembarkation. And, at least on our particular cruise, it was a waste of time. (Except for the fun of seeing the "secret elevator.") We had early tours and the first morning we were second off the ship - the first were the people from our roll call who were sharing the tour with us and they had disembarked the old-fashioned way. :) So, we didn't bother the rest of the cruise, but tried it again on final disembarkation day. Again, I am not sure it was worth it. We were herded together with the suite guests and it didn't feel any better or faster than the usual process. We didn't use him for anything else, but his letters to our cabin assured us he was there to help in any way he could.
smeyer418 Posted December 14, 2011 #4 Share Posted December 14, 2011 .... Well, here are the questions. Has anyone that is now Platinum and not a Suite guest used this new Perk? Will it be the same stuff they do for the Suite guests? ... while its new some questions can be answered. the concierge service on most NCL ships is more than one person. They do have a desk at the front desk. The concierge is the same for the suites and everyone else. How many asst there will be is an open issue. I assume that they will do the same for the suite guests as they do for the Plats....but we will have to wait and see if they are overwhelmed... sjbdtz Posted December 14, 2011 #5 Share Posted December 14, 2011 They do have a desk at the front desk. The concierge is the same for the suites and everyone else. ... On the Spirit the desk was at Le Bistro On the EPIC it was at the Courtyard area On the Gem it was off to the side of the Front Desk (around the corner, actually) . swedish weave Posted December 14, 2011 #6 Share Posted December 14, 2011 A few years ago, the Concierge on the Star handled the suites, vip's and platinum lattitudes, but a change was made and the lattitudes rep onboard took over the platinums. The suites that were added during and after drydock increased the workload of the concierge, so it will be interesting to see if a second concierge will be added to handle the platinums again. If not, the workload for the concierge will be unbearable.
djmess Posted December 14, 2011 Author #7 Share Posted December 14, 2011 Thanks for the Info so far. I've always befriended the latitudes rep onboard, so they have probably given me the basic concierge service in the past. As I usually make specialty restaurant reservations at the last minute, I've never had a problem doing it myself. I'm also not one to be the first off the ship in port, but have taken advantage of priority tender tickets which allowed me to get off ship basically when I wanted, even if they were still in the calling numbers phase. I'm probably not going to be a huge concierge user, just curious. I have heard mention on these threads that the concierge reserved seating for shows. I think that is what I saw. Maybe it is a suite perk. Just wondering if that might be a part of concierge platinum perk. I might take advantage of that one if it were, but with the number of Platinum members now, I don't think I see that happening. One can always hope. Thanks again, and as you all cruise over the next month or so, maybe someone will be able to give more info. I don't cruise again until Feb

I think she always stays in the highest level Suite on a ship though, so maybe that is why she gets that

In fact' date=' it's not even available for all level of suites.;)[/quote'] Reserved seating in the theater is a perk for all Penthouse Suites and above. The confusion comes from the poorly labeled "Mini Suites" which are not true suites in that they do not receive any of the suite perks such as butler or concierge services and things like reserved theater seating. Actually, reserved seating in the theater isn't even available to all full suites. We've sailed in Penthouses on the Jewel and it wasn't available unless you were in the Haven or Owners Suites. Also, since so many more people have reached Platinum status under the new program I can't see how one person would be able to handle the number of passengers
Fishbait17 Posted December 16, 2011 #12 Share Posted December 16, 2011 You are both right about the theater seating :). On some ships, it is available to all suites, on others it is limited to Haven suites and higher.. it depends on the number of suite passengers on the ship. FWIW, on all of my sailings, there has been at least one "assistant" concierge and I have dealt with them often.. So perhaps these persons' tasks will be elevated to accommodate all the new Platinum members? Robin Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
cruiser12 Posted December 16, 2011 #13 Share Posted December 16, 2011 The return of the pins and concierge----I was not in a suite when I first became platinum - concierge was part of the level at the time --- nice to have them both added back --- pins for all who cruise ---

djmess Posted December 16, 2011 Author #16 Share Posted December 16, 2011 Thats cool , just stay away from 9276 ;) What's wrong with 9276? I've never booked a suite, but am thinking of going to Alaska 2013 and seriously considering a suite. Waiting for release info on the cruisetour option that NCL will be beginning. The preliminary info I read said it would be attached to the Sun's Itinerary and would be released in Early 2012. I thought I would research Suite types and what one I might beable to afford the best and that holds 4 comfortably. As I've stayed with 4 in an inside cabin, I'm sure ANY suite would feel comfortable. lol

tinker 4 Posted December 16, 2011 #19 Share Posted December 16, 2011 So I guess if the Platinum Lattitudes members use the concierge they would be expected to tip them like the suite people do?

disneykins Posted December 17, 2011 #21 Share Posted December 17, 2011 New platinum here, always sail inside cabins. How much do you tip the concierge? Per service or per day? At end of cruise or when service is rendered? What exactly will the concierge do for us? And the free laundry, would that include my tux? Thanks, Tony

Thanks, Tony The laundry special is wash, dry and fold so I doubt you would want them to do your Tux. I've mostly only had concierge service with a suite but we start at $10 per day and add depending on how much we use the services. The one time we were VIP and not in a suite, disembarkation was the only thing we took advantage of so we just tipped him $20.00. I'm just putting out what we do, some do more and some do less. jimmm Posted December 17, 2011 #23 Share Posted December 17, 2011 We had a Courtyard Villa on the Jade out of Rome a month ago and had both a butler and conceirge. He arranged for a quiet tour of the bridge, got us the reserved seats for shows, arranged reservation times for all the restaurants, got my wife a wheelchair and an attendant to wheel her all over the ship after she broke her leg on an excursion. He arranged early off times, and simply checked in each day to see if there was something he could do. With this new Platinum level, I'm not sure how all will get much service. Too many needy, demanding people - not enough time for the staff.

At end of cruise or when service is rendered? What exactly will the concierge do for us? And the free laundry, would that include my tux? Thanks, Tony The free laundry is one bag per platinum member on the day when the $24.95 laundry service special is in effect...it's not unlimited laundry, it's wash and fold service, and it's not for dry cleaning. We make almost no use of the concierge...essentially just to escort us on embarkation and disembarkation days, hence we only tip a small amount. You normally tip the concierge at the end of the cruise.
