"Dancing with the Stripes" took place in "Revelations" aboard Celebrity's Summit, starting 10:30pm on Wednesday night. Officers were paired with guests in this fun dance competition hosted by the Cruise Director Alejandro Tortorelli (from Argentina) and judged by crew and comedian James Stephens III (from US). The guest winner was a nice lady from France paired with David (a young & talented young man/ officer).

Yes, you do:D it is fun too. It is sort of like Iron Chef on Food Network.

2 Chefs and each Chef has a passenger as an Assistant...they cook

3 different items and the judges get to taste and vote on who they

think did the best and pick the winners:)

Congratulations Janet on winning your competition:D

Another activity that can be fun, depending on the host, the competitors and/or judges too!

Star Chefs Cooking Challenge paired two senior chefs with 2 guests that battled it out making a gourmet dish in 20 minutes(event hosted by the Cruise Director Alejandro Tortorelli, assisted by his Activites Manager, and supervised by the Executive Chef Pascal Mullier in the Celebrity Theater). The judges were 3 kids from the audience.

On the Millie last October both DW and I took the "kitchen behind the scenes" tour. This was a very informative tour which lasted about 45 minutes and commenced with an informative talk and introduction to all the chefs, then you are organized into groups (given a number when you arrive) and head on down to the kitchen.

Well worth doing doing if you are interested in how this vast number of meals are prepared on a daily basis. The tour ends in the Olympic restaurant which itself has a display kitchen and I have attached a short video during one of the nights we dined there -impeccable service and wonderful food.

Indeed - those "behind the scene" tours (such as seeing the Galley or the Theater or the Bridge if you're lucky) are informative.

On our Celebrity's Summit cruise this past Holiday Season, the Galley tour (complimentary, so free of charge for all) was so popular that we had several groups rotating, including few with Spanish translators as guides. It started with a complimentary glass of champagne (or Mimoza) and it ended up on the specialty restaurant 'Normandie' with offerings of chocolate covered strawberries : - ))

YES, we enjoyed our Galley tour. Very interesting and amazing on the number of meals they served each. About 12,000 every day, as I recall done through seventeen different kitchens on the ship. Below are a couple of my Galley Tour pictures.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Did a June 7-19, 2011, Solstice cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Enjoyed great weather and a wonderful trip. Dozens of wonderful visuals with key highlights, tips, comments, etc., on these postings. We are now at 62,987 views for this live/blog re-cap on our first sailing with Celebrity and much on wonderful Barcelona. Check these postings and added info at:

We did a galley tour on a sea day and here is one of the staff members displaying his fine art in carving.:

Also during the galley tour, here is what can be done with the very good bread sticks. The bread options were good on this Solstice sailing.:

One of the chefs here is shown doing a cooking demo during a sea day program.:

Corning glass shows....they make different items using different techniques for every show (and that is every single show they do.....the artists make what they want to make that day and they don't just repeat on the next cruise).

...

On board speakers (of course it depends who is speaking, but some are outstanding) [/quote]

Good point! Outside the speakers on the Alaska cruise, I do not recall attending any appealing seminars... 'til this past Holiday season when we decided to go see the Staff Captain on the "Summit" doing a presentation called "Introduction to navigation."

What a pleasant surprise! To your point above (the quality of the speaker), Celebrity's Summit Staff Captain proved to be an outstanding presenter, knowledgeable, patient and respectful.

He did take us from the docking lines to "Full Speed Ahead" and he kindly answered all the questions addressed by various passengers present to this Celebrity activity aboard the Summit. Because of this talented Greek professional, we learned how officers maneuver the Celebrity's Summit cruise ship.

Great presence, professional demeanor and a wonderful person too (i.e. made a phone call on the spot to make a kid from the audience happy by organizing a Bridge Tour for him the very next day)!

- See VIDEO here with bits & pieces from this "Introduction to Navigation" seminar/ presentation:

Enjoy!

The Galley tours look like fun ~ where (and when) do you sign up for those?

They are usually listed on 'Celebrity Today' and you just show up at the specific location. Friendly reminder: Be on time because often times they may be gone if you're bit late (happened to some friends on a Celebrity cruise).

Note that on some ships, however, there may be a charge for it. Again, the 'Celebrity today' should provide full details.

YES! Was fun and interesting. Usually on a sea day. As noted, check the "Celebrity Today". Signing up early is good. On our day doing this, there were about a 140 people doing this tour. They take you through the galley in small groups. They had a nice question and answer period while we wait for our group to go through the galley.

Terry,

Thanks :) Going through the Canal we'll have plenty of sea days so we should be able to do lots of ship's activities! This one sounds very interesting. BTW ... your postings are always so informative with your great photos! Love to see those.

Appreciate the kind comments on my pictures. Glad to know you're a person of such class, great taste and wonderful judgment to make such comments.

It's not exactly an "organized activity", but I always like to share and plug for first-timers on the wisdom for experiencing and/or hanging out in the Solarium area. See below my "photo evidence" for why this is such a great place to hang out, read, walk through, etc. Many more pictures and details on the Solstice and her sister ships can be seen below from my live/blog.

THANKS! Enjoy your upcoming cruise! Terry in Ohio

The Solarium was one of our favorite areas on the Solstice. Food and drinks were nearby and it was very relaxed and sophisticated. Quieter, too, as it is an adults-only area. Two hot tubs here. Not crowded, especially in the evenings. Nice art and design are there as a part of this sparkling ship facility.:

Not sure if Celebrity has this type of "Interactive Theme Party" on all the sailings but "Sizzle Party" is definitely popular on the Caribbean itineraries:

Some snapshots: "Sizzle Interactive Party" aboard Celebrity's Summit (Wednesday 12.28.2011)

In 'Revelations', after the 'Dancing with the Stripes' (dancing competition), the Sizzle Interactive Theme Party took place, bringing together the production cast dancers and guests; comedian James Stephens III too...

What a fun and energetic party! 'til way past Midnight! Music by the Celebrity Orchestra horn section, Party Band Magnitude and a DJ in the AM hours.

Favorite activity? DW and I are very big participants in the "group reading" activity. Along with a very large group of other passengers we find a nice comfy seat (outside if the weather is good) and curl up with a good book. It is amazing how large our reading group can be....sometimes we see hundreds of folks curled up with their book.

Hank

Add me in to that group....:D

Seattle@heart,

We are on the Panama cruise too! Have you signed into the Roll Call and Connections Party?

Daliflor, Funny, I was just looking at your photos of the Murcury trip yesterday. Where are you off to next?

Sorry to go off topic, h. ;)

Favorite things to do:

being a lounge lizard

reading by the pool

swear I will do more organized activities next time
