Where is Maasdam??

Judy, I don't trust that calendar. I went to the Find A Cruise site and then hit Dates only and put in only the months for 2013. Then I hit on the ships for each month. After April, Maasdam isn't one of the ships listed at all. I think a call to HAL is in order to see what's up?

I'd double check before believing the color-coded chart. It shows Maasdam in the Caribbean the first half of October when she'll actually be sailing through Canada/New England and then to FLL until the 19th.

I know, Carol.

That is what I found and the reason I started this thread to begin with.

Maasdam does not show in the drop down menu listing all the ships in the fleet for the months in question.

I think we're back to where this thread started.....

The Destination Chart looked promising but now there's reason for doubt.

I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the Maasdam was missing from the list after April 2013.....I was thinking about booking the VOV again and apparently the Veendam is doing it in 2013. Called my travel agent to find out why the ship was missing and apparently the Maasdam is getting a major refit - will be out of service for a lot longer than just a couple of weeks. My first thought was that she was being sold but was assured that was not the case.....:)

Not sure what they have planned for the Maasdam. But the Veendam will be doing the Voyage of the Vikings in 2013. I wouldn't be surprised if the Veendam does the Canada/New England trips in 2013. Except for the Voyage of the Vikings, no itineraries have been released for May 2013 and the rest of the summer of 2013 for either the Veendam or the Maasdam.

I'm skeptical of that info. She was just in a "major refit" last April that added the Mix and Lanai cabins. The aft Retreat fiasco that was inflicted on the Veendam and Rotterdam was reportedly cancelled, so I can't see what "major refit" the TA has in mind.

I have another theory (just mine). Since HAL is not supposed to be doing Bermuda in 2013, and they have the Veendam doing Canada/New England and the VOV, maybe they haven't totally made up their mind on Maasdam's deployment (why do Canada/New England with two ships, for example).

Suppose, just suppose... maybe Bermuda isn't totally out. There has been talk in Bermuda (don't know how serious) that maybe they could keep casino open in port. If that were the case, HAL may not be so anxious to flee. Send the Maasdam instead (she still has Sea View pool instead of the Retreat, for one - a nice warm-weather option) and also has a smaller capacity, which can help fares (more likely to sell out and not have to discount).

Again, just wild speculation on my part. But, it is fun to play "If I were King..."

One thing I noticed this past fall - Westerdam did a 30 (or so) day Hawaii/South Pacific cruise after Alaska. That wasn't what was originally announced. She was supposed to transit the canal right after Alaska and start the Caribbean season (that was what was in the Cruise Planner). And yet she ended up doing something very different for 7 weeks. So you really do never know.

I know they've done dumber things, but I think HAL would be out of their minds to sell Maasdam in the forseeable future.

She has a loyal following (in addition to S7S) and is always well booked....and would be even if they raised the prices for her, IMO

I agree, John.

She had her 'major refit' last spring.

I also am skeptical the TA has it right but, we'll see, I suppose.

Maybe? Certainly possible.

Funny how Bermuda refused again and again about allowing the casino to open until HAL failed to renew their contract with them.

Nothing like sending away one of the few ships that can fit in Hamilton to make them have second thoughts. Not so many cruise calls scheduled without Maasdam or perhaps her sister, Veendam.

I like your theory. And if it pans out, since the Maasdam didn't suffer the mod that the Veendam did, perhaps she could also 'fit' into St. George as well.......

I would think the Statendam would be the "iffy" ship. I bet it is a HAL glitch. We all know their website does odd things now and then..more now than then!!!:p

It isn't a HAL 'glitch'.

I have spoken with three people who might be expected to know where Maasdam will be sailing and none know.... or aren't saying. ;)

It is not a glitch but a situation that is not yet announced, it seems to me.

We all can speculate but until/unless someone with actual knowledge says, we really don't know.:cool:
