The Window Suite...

There is no IPOD docking station.

On another post about the WS, the writer commented on there being 3 doors in the corridor outside the suite (I think they were on the CB) on the Grand Princess there are only two...no middle doors into the casino. One door opened directly into the Piazza and the other into the foreward stair hall.

I thought the bed was one SINGLE bed...not two beds joined together. Am I wrong on this? This could be the reason for the strange bed size. If it is two beds joined together, they did an excellent job making it comfortable. I apologize if my information is incorrect.

Honestly, if you find yourself disturbed by the joggers overhead in the morning, Please let the folks at the front desk know...they might eventually start blocking off the area (during certain hours), if enough people complain.

Our room steward is Daniel. He is doing a very good job at keeping the room spotless and always talks to us in the hallway.

We have a lot of little bottles of soap, shampoo etc..I do not like the smell so I bring my own.

No IPOD player.

Just as an addition, adjacent rooms may be a mirror image of this layout. We stayed in F309 on the Grand and that is a mirror image.

Thank you! We are booked on the Grand in F309 in June 2015 for our 30th Anniversary trip to Alaska (10 day Cruise Tour). Very helpful!

<sigh> how soon they forget.

A king size mattress is 76x80. I measured the mattress as being 69x81, so unless my dimensions are off (and that could be the case...my partner was sleeping in the bed when I measured...LOL) its somewhere between a king and queen. There is NO seam down the middle.

There were plenty toiletries (shampoo, soap, lotion, sheet spray, emory boards, loufah pads, mouthwash, sewing kit, shower cap, etc) and they were replenished.

Does anyone know if there is a hair dryer in the window suites? We have to travel from the East coast of Vancouver BC and trying to limit bulky things like a hair dryer. Thanks!

Yes there is a hair dryer.

Some folks with thick hair are disappointed in its effectiveness but there is one nevertheless.

Thanks for doing this, did you or anyone who has cruised in a WS noticed noise from walkers/runners on promenade deck above? Viewed the WS suites on the Grand and very impressed! We did not smell any smoke in the hallway from the casino and it was in the atrium.

No noise from above, nobody wandering around in the hallway, most people don't even know what is behind the door. No smoke or noise from the casino. These suites are great, but having said that we don't book one on warm weather itineraries where we consider a balcony to be important.

That looks amazing and is spot on for F303 through F311 (although possibly mirrored as mentioned earlier). F301 is significantly smaller and is missing the desk/counter along the windows. F315 is the ADA cabin and is slightly larger with a different layout as well.

I hope to be in F315 on the Golden Princess, sailing 04/17/2016 from Melbourne-Sydney, Australia. I have no skill at drawing, but I have noted to document by photographing EVERYTHING I CAN! You want something documented on the Golden Princess? Just post a request with as many details as possible-I cannot do the Ultimate Ship's Tour due to disability, I use a rollator for mobility, but I will do what I can. It's a LOVELY excuse to thoroughly explore the ship!:D

We enjoyed cabin F309 last Nov. and like you found it wonderful. We had NO smoke odor, the perks for a suite are tremendous, and I would book it again if returning to Hawaii. I love a balcony, but considering the cold rough seas going and returning with no opportunity for balcony lovers to use the balcony, this was the best of both worlds. Your drawing of the cabin is perfect, and beyond the visual, is the total space allotted to storage , the very large bathroom and the daily flowers and room service.

When I cruise in 2016, I will take specific photographic records for you! Have noted to buy a specific Stenographers notebook for the Cruise/Photography/Thank You notes, your request will be the 1st on the list. I still need to learn how to copy more than 1 post to respond to-NOT noted for my technical skills! Wicked giggles at herself.

...While we were wandering about the Golden' date=' we happened by that area and the smell from the cigar lounge was very strong out in the hallway by the suites. And that was before the new smoking area rules. I have to believe that the smell is even more pronounced now.

So even if the casino isn't on the same deck, if you don't care for the smell of tobacco, you might want to skip these cabins.[/quote']

While checking out the location of the WS for future reference on the Golden last Sept., I noticed a strong cigar odor in the hallway as well. Not sure how much of it enters the suites themselves, but I have decided not to book one as we are very sensitive to smoke. Too bad.

 I'd better make sure I have additional asthma puffers with me then, I am known to react to smoke. Not always, but THANK YOU FOR THE HEADS UP! I now have added an asthma puffer to the lists for the suitcase, the sponge bag, the carry on case, and my handbag which always carries needed medication. New prescriptions and a note of my Flu Vaccination will also be carried to minimise trouble. I'd already noted to take a Body Spray with me to use in the bathroom, am sure I read the tip on another thread, but I've read so many useful tips I have trouble keeping track of who posted which useful tip!

Hopefully the hallway smoke will not enter the cabin, but I thought I'd mention it. I have been in cabins before with various hallway odors, and none of it entered the cabin. But yes, it can't hurt to bring your inhaler.

We were in F311 and there was no smoke smell whatsoever in the cabin or in the "private" hallway outside the suites.....however, muster was held in the cigar lounge and the smell was terrible. So if you are in one of these suites and are sensitive to the smell of smoke ( no one was in there smoking at the time) you might take along your inhaler. Or maybe you can be reassigned to another muster station?

We were also in F311 on the Grand. The cabin is the second closest to the Purser desk and at the opposite end from the Cigar Bar. As you walked towards the Cigar Bar on occasion you could smell some smoke but not always and not over powering. At our end we did not smell the smoke. At no time did the cabin have any smell of smoke. It was a great cabin in a perfect location. What I did find a bit offensive was when you did walk out the closed door into the Atrium from your hidden hallway you could smell the smoke coming from the door to the casino to the right. Neither one of us is smokers, this was our first time in a window suite, we are not big balcony cruisers, and given the chance, price, itinerary, we would take a window suite in a heart beat.

We have stayed in F301 once and would not book it again. Not only is it smaller, but there is smoke from the cigar lounge when the hall door is open. No matter how many times I would close it, it was open. There also seems to be more noise.

We have also stayed in F311 twice and we love this location. No noise or smoke.

THANK YOU for the very helpful suggestion. When I book through the TA, I will be booking a Disabled Accessible Window Suite if available, (mobility issues) and will advise I am an asthmatic which is controlled by medication, but have reacted to smoke, could I please avoid venue/s used by smokers? I didn't think to do this, someone more experienced knew it could help! I know if I choose to walk along a deck that has a designated smoking area, I have made a conscious choice to take the risk.

Today I made my cruise booking, paid a 20% deposit, and purchased International Travel Insurance. Incidentally, I taught the TA something, she said I didn't need International Travel Insurance and I showed her where Princess recommended it in their own brochure! I'm in F315, the Disabled Accessible Window Suite, and have noted to pack a tape measure to measure just how long, from the wall adjoining F311 to the end wall along the starboard wall is. I have a tape measure with both Imperial (inches) and Metric (centimetres) so will post Inches with CM in brackets.

The TA will help me with my Cruise Personaliser and print the luggage tags for me. She did show me the Carnival ones prepared for another person, didn't handle them but know what they look like now. 12 months to finish paying off the cruise, it's well within my budget.

If anyone wants specific information checked on the Golden Princess, please let me know, and I will add that to the information to photograph/check on board notepad.

Yes, I embark at Melbourne for Sydney. Have to fly in the day before due to awkward flight scheduling, that's the worst of only 1 airline servicing my home town. Current plans are to stay at the Hotel Grand Chancellor on Lonsdale St (think it's Lonsdale St, not a Melbourneite), as I have stayed at the Adelaide hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it. Will be going to the pier by taxi, I have Access Cab vouchers, and direct door-to-door is a lot less hassle for me. Equally, I wasn't missing the chance to test my balance tolerance aboard ship for a reasonable amount of money BEFORE committing to sailing to Tasmania in 2022. I've a bad history of delayed travel sickness, used to be a right little horror as a kid, fortunately I seem to have outgrown it. Do know to get a prescription anti-nausea from the Dr, will use the one I had for chemotherapy as I tolerated that well and it doesn't clash with my current meds.

Should anyone joining in Melbourne be near the hotel, and want to join me going to the ship, let me know and we can arrange to meet up. I'll be asking for a station wagon (think it's an estate car Stateside, but not sure-it's the same shape as a hearse, the only comparison I could think of!) as I'm on a walking frame so luggage shouldn't be a problem, even with 3 adults sharing the ride.

Thanks so much for the info. We are traveling with friends so will work on transfer details for us. Our hope is to stay at a Hilton property in town. We will be arriving 2 days ahead, the 15th.

You will love the window suites. They are our first choice in picking a cabin. Wish more ships offered them.. Lots and lots of room and storage.

30 days on the Golden Princess will be awesome!!:)

On our recent GRAND PRINCESS cruise we booked a window suite. Since there wasnt much info on these rooms, I decided to create a plan with some details. Hope its helpful.

This is awesome -- thank you, DCT61. We just booked a WS for next year, and think it's going to be perfect for us.

Question for those who've cruised with a window suite. Has anyone moved furniture around so that you can lounge and look out the window? Besides in a desk chair? I think I would want to move around the sofa, or at least the arm chair, to face the ocean. Would that work, or is the furniture pretty static?

You can see the ocean from the sofa, no need to move the furniture around. If you don't want to have to turn your head, you could probably rotate the sofa 90 degrees to face the window.

As for smoke, we've never had a whiff inside our WS - we've had F303 and F311. The forward part of the secret hallway did get some drift, but nothing really strong.

The sofa is right by the window. Both windows are large. No need to move the sofa. The wing chair faces the window. Don't think the room steward would appreciate the remodel job.
