Is the portside promenad ALWAYS the smoking side

I ask because on Princess it has been reported to vary according to the Captain's whim. If this is true, I cannot book a Princess balcony with any confidence as I know from personal experience that the smoke does waft upward. I hope the situation is different on Celebrity. According to the Princess boards an officer said: "We will provide designated smoking areas, we never said where".

It is very unfair to have it vary from sailing to sailing. I hope Celebrity is different.

Celebrity Cruises

Where You Can Smoke: Cigarette smoking is only permitted in designated indoor and outdoor areas. Examples include the port side of the pool deck and sundecks on each ship; the port side of the Sunset Bar on Celebrity Century and on Celebrity's Millennium class of ships; and the port side, aft, outside of Winter Garden on Celebrity Galaxy and Celebrity Mercury.

Where You Can't: Smoking is prohibited in cabins and on balconies. Also, smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, casino, theater, hallway, elevator or corridor. On Celebrity's new Solstice, the Lawn Club and the Sunset Bar at the Lawn Club will not allow smoking.

Cigar and Pipe Smoking: Cigar and pipe smoking is allowed only in specially designated sections of the open decks.

I was thinking the same thing......Galaxy has been gone for at least

3 years now and Mercury for 2 years.

Actually there is no smoking indoors anymore.

From the Celebrity site as of tonight:

Smoking For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, our ships are designated as non-smoking; however, we recognize that some of our guests smoke. Therefore, to provide an onboard environment that also satisfies smokers, we have designated certain areas of the ship as "smoking areas." Generally, smoking is not permitted except in designated areas. (Contact Guest Relations for additional details). This policy includes smoking-like products such as electronic cigarettes.

Smoking is not permitted inside any guest stateroom; nor on any guest veranda. If a guest is in violation of this policy, a cleaning fee of $250 USD will be applied to their SeaPass account and the guest may be subject to further action pursuant to the "Consequences Section" of this Guest Conduct Policy.

Celebrity Cruises kindly asks all guests to please observe the non-smoking areas and to refrain from smoking cigarettes, pipes or cigars in any of the non-designated areas. These requests are made to provide a comfortable shipboard environment for everyone.

Where permitted, cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must always be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. A guest must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco.

Definitely not as definitive except about inside smoking. I just checked the daily from boarding day on the Silhouetted and there are no details on allowed areas.

Maybe someone on board can check with guest relations and post the results here?

is most assuredly allowed at the Sunset Bar, starboard side, on the Equinox. Also, port side on pool deck, starboard side by the Mast Bar, and port side on Deck 5. Two areas, actually. One is outside the doors behind the theater, the other is outside the doors just forward of the lounge/specialty restaurant area.

This dredging up of outdated information is reason enough not to disallow certain topics, as suggested in another thread.

I tried to help her as I couldn't get the info direct from the cruise lines site. I would never sail Celebrity so I didn't know they were old ships but the article was not dated either, maybe they should archive the out to date ones. Then I wouldn't have ruffled so many feathers!

The OP was asking about the Promenade deck smoking areas, not other areas on the ship. On S-class ships' upper decks, sometimes smoking is on the Port Side, sometimes Starboard. (M-class ships use Portside on deck 10). I'm aware of no ship that uses Starboard side on the Promenade deck for smoking, except as noted, during refueling hours. Anyone know differently?

Cruisestitch - thank you for this information. On M class ships is it only Deck 10? I have been trying to check if port cabins Deck 6 will be affected by smoking outside on Deck 5 - or is that just S class?

M class ships have smoking areas outside both on deck ten and deck five. On deck five, smoking is generally port side. However during refueling or if there are repairs on deck five port side, or some other reason why the port side can't be used, they will move smoking to the starboard side. Going back to the original question, is port side deck five ALWAYS the smoking side, no. But 99% of the time, yes. Now, will that affect you on deck six? Well, there's no way to know how many smokers will be aboard and what the weather will be like, which might influence a person's choice of going to the open deck ten to smoke, or moving down to the covered deck five.

Not sure which class of ship you will be sailing on.

M-Class - Deck 10, Sunset Bar - Port side

Deck 10 - Pool area - Port side

Deck 4 - Port side - outside MDR and outside casino

Deck 11 - Small area near Mast Bar - Port side forward

S-Class - Deck 12 - pool deck - portside

Deck 14 - Sun Deck - starboard

Deck 5 - Promenade - portside - midship

Deck 15 - Sunset Bar aft - starboard (also cigar & pipe smoking allowed)

I think it is at the discretion of the Captain, but normally these are the locations.

Just noticed my error....on M class ships the promenade smoking area is deck four, not five as I wrote a couple of posts above this one

Thank you - we can only hope it won't be a problem as the ship is sold out, so no chance of moving.
