Guarantee W suite

Has anyone booked this Guarantee W Suite ?

We are considering to upgrade to this. However it looks like this might get an Accessible Suite (Cat AW), of which are still a couple available for the sailing in 10 days.

Can someone give me some information on how these Accessible Suites are ?

Or someone that had booked a Cat W - what did you end up with ?

Thanks for feedback and advice.

I was hoping that someone with first-hand experience would respond to this. I can only offer some things to consider when making your decision.

The main concern I have about the accessible cabins is the modifications to the bathroom. A roll-in shower does not have any lip or barrier that would prevent the water from running out under the shower curtain. It is possible that the entire area would be flooded each time you shower. I expect that the sink/vanity is lower with no storage under the sink to allow a wheelchair access. I'm sure the toilet is also modified- higher or lower- with grab bars. I would prefer not to have such a bathroom.

Does AW mean that you are guaranteed to be put into an accessible cabin? I don't know. I had a similar question a few days ago about a W guarantee in general. The answer I got was that you can be put anywhere in the suite category according to what is available at the time you are assigned - not necessarily what is showing at the time you book. As far as I can see that makes the guarantee codes pretty much meaningless because in my experience they do not match the picture/description to which they are attached and do not narrow the possibilities in any way. Most people reported that they ended up in a Sky Suite of some sort rather than in one of the larger suites.

I guess you have to ask yourself if the least desirable outcome is still acceptable.

My husband and I were booked on the Millie a few years ago in a CC cabin and about two weeks before our sailing date, a suite guarantee was offered. At the time, there were about 10 cabins left and because it was so close to the sailing date, our cabin was assigned the next day.

If I were you, I'd just book the suite guarantee and see what you end up with--if you don't like your cabin assignment, you can always change it but you've got to stay on top of this to ensure you get something that you're happy with.

Anyway, no matter what--the suite life on Celebrity is AWESOME!

A few years ago there was a short-lived considerable price drop in the suite GTY category of the Constellation. We were able to take advantage of the price drop, upgrade into the GTY category, and were assigned an accessible Sky Suite (lower category--not sure if 1 or 2 is the lower category). I phoned =X= and was moved to a regular suite, not accessible, in the same category. I'm guessing you could do the same. Just stay on top of it, as Angela suggested.

If AW means Accessible guarantee, then that is what you get. If it means any suite, then why call it AW as opposed to just W?

Am I the only one confused by the guarantee booking codes?

Hi Babr,

Caeegory AW is not an Accessible Guarantee. It's a new category which is an Accessible Suite. If you select AW, You would be assigned an Accessible Suite.

Category W, is a GTY Suite, where you would not be initially assigned.

I hope this helps clarify !

We took advantage of the W guarantee as well (from AQ to W) on our upcoming Silhouette cruise

I too felt I was going to get an accessible cabin as that's what was showing on the site as available, along with 2 S1 aft sky suites

Low and behold about a week after we were assigned our cabin and it was an aft S1 :)

I was prepared to take the accessible, even though I was worried that the shower would be a mess in the bathroom and also I was concerned with taking away an accessible cabin from someone in need

I was reminded here on this board that if an accessible was issued, and it was after the final payment, I didn’t cause someone to lose their accessible cabin

Moot point anyway, so what ever u get enjoy it as accessible or not, it’s a cabin with lots of room, and some nice bennies (one or two specialty restaurants for two, gratis, depending on cruise length as an example)

Enjoy

Host Andy - OK. It was the use of W on both designations that confused me . I thought W always meant guarantee in the suite category with AW being set aside from the general inventory.

Wonder why they didn't call it AS - Accessilbe Suite - like CS for Celebrity Suite or RS for Royal Suite?

Thanks

We got off Solstice last Sunday......March 25th. Had switched to a W suite (not specified handicapped) and we ended up with cabin #2148....and aft S2 with fabulous butler Nito, large covered balcony..................it was the BEST cabin ever and we loved it. We also visited an accessible cabin (also booked as a guarantee) by another member of CC group....think it was #2134. Other than the differences in the bathroom (handicapped shower and higher potty)...it was a huge and nice bathroom. They had a couple kids with them and loved it. Large balcony.

Would we try this again....in a heartbeat. The upgrade was very inexpensive (we orginally had a CC2 cabin)...and made up the difference. Got $80 credit for specialty restaurant, dined in Blu one night (fabulous), and had a huge cheese platter and other desserts and canapes daily. Hubby had shoes shined a couple times, and the butler arranged for everything we wanted...dinner reservations, shore excursions, etc.

We will have trouble going back to a "regular" CC or Aqua cabin!!! Go for it.

I know it's a few years since your post, but just booked a cruise on Century and I have W GTY suite What do you think I will get? Will I get a suite? Thanks in advance, Bob

I see that you are new to Cruise Critic--welcome! You'll be very glad you found us!

And yes, if you booked a category W, they HAVE to give you a suite. All that matters is which one. There are smaller suites called sky suites which are not really suites, just larger, nicer rooms. There are more of those so it's likely that's what you'll get, but you never know. Keep checking your 'My Celebrity' account every day, and your room will pop up pretty soon. Good luck

No Michael's Club, sorry.

You will get a Butler, and a host of other benefits that can be found on the Celebrity website. Look under stateroom types. ;)

Why can't they go to Michael's Club if they're in a Century Suite? I thought it was for all suites above Sky Suites?

Sky suites get access to the restaurant but not michaels club...anything above sky suites DO have access to Michaels club

I may be wrong, but I thought that I had read somewhere that, whilst Sky Suites do not get access to Michael's Club, Century Suites do. As I say, I could be wrong because we are not planning to be on Century before she leaves the fleet and may not have been paying sufficient attention. It is simply that I remembered it as an anomaly.

Hi Cathy:

When I was on the Century last year, Michael's Club had just opened, and Century Suites weren't permitted there, but it might have changed for the last sailings.

Century Suites are below Sky Suites...they are only the same size as a Concierge Class cabin on the M class (190 sq. ft.) and have even smaller balconies (35 sq. ft.). They do get butlers and the standard sweet perks, including the suite restaurant.

I loved our back-to-back cruises on the Century last year (one in a Sky Suite) and wish I could be on her for her last two sailings.

You're right, and it is an anomaly.

That said, a W guarantee is still most likely to lead to a Sky suite, so it's still most likely they won't get access to Michael's Club.

I was a little concerned about the assignment of a last minute Gty Sky Suite on the Summit and was assigned the Accessible cabin right by the elevators. It was a great location, had no noise from the elevator and the large shower with curtain was awesome to rinse our scuba gear after diving. Yes, the floor did get wet when doing this but easy to mop up with an extra towel. When taking a regular shower, the floor really did not get wet at all. Would take another room like this in a heartbeat if assigned as a GTY. As we do not require the accessible cabin we would never book it on our own.

We booked a W guarantee on Century for an April 2014 cruise. We assumed we would get either a Century Suite, which was smaller, but had Michael's Club access or a larger Sky Suite without Michael's Club access- we would have been happy with either one.

We did get a Century Suite and felt very pampered by the Michael's Club perks- we were escorted aboard, straight to Michael's with a delicious variety of appetizers and drinks. We stopped there almost every evening before dinner, and disembarkation was a breeze.

Good luck!

Theresa
