''Alone in the wilderness'' the P.B.S. documentary about a man who went to Alaska in 1968 built his own cabin and lived there for 38 years. It is one of the greatest shows ever on T.V. if you have not seen this show you are in for a real treat.

(book and PBS show) I loved it

Also, on TV

Ice Pilots (I'm watching it right now).

When we went to Alaska the first time, my aunt recommended a couple of the mystery series set in Alaska. Dana Stabenow writes a series with Kate Shugak as the main character. Sue Henry has two different series -- one with Jessie Arnold, who's a sled dog racer, and the other with Maxine McNab who's a widow that travels in her RV. I've read all of the books by both authors :o.

Any other book recommendations? Looking for new things to put on my Kindle before we cruise in May.

I don't recall any books set in Alaska.

As far as movies:

Mystery, Alaska was about a hockey team in a fictitious Alaska town.

The Simpsons Movie had part of it set in Alaska.

The plot of the film White Fang was set in the Yukon, but it was actually filmed in the Skagway/Haines, Alaska area.

Can't think of anymore off of the top of my head

Terminal Freeze by Lincoln Child (kinda sci fi)

Mountains Bow Down by Sibella Giorello (mystery that takes place on an Alaskan cruise)

Song of Alaska series by Tracie Peterson (historical/inspirational)

Fire & Ice by Julie Garwood (romance/mystery)

Royal Series by MaryJanice Davidson, Royal Treatment; Royal Pain; Royal Mess (funny romance, set in the fictional kingdom of Alaska)

Into the Wild

it's a book (non fiction) and a movie

As soon as I saw this thread and wanted to post "Into the Wild" but I couldn't think of the correct title. I really enjoyed that book. Thanks for posting the title!
