shorter cruise, interior room- Questions!!

So I've become so addicted to cruising I'm just off the Victory and trying to sqeeze another trip in, only this time I want to do a girls only thing. In order to make this happen for all of us, we have to do it as inexpensive as possible. SO I've had a balcony for the last two cruises and an oceanview for the first, never an interior room. Has anyone gone "backwards" so to speak? Was it horrible having an interior room after you've had something else? We are looking at a 4 or 5 day anyway to save on cost, so its not even going to be that long so I think I can handle it. Also, are the ships for the shorter cruises a lot different? Are they missing a lot of amenties? final question for now, anyone know what the weather is like in the bahamas in late September? I know its hurricane season, but its still warm right? Or am I better off going to mexico? Seems like only choices are Cozumel or Bahamas for the short ones. Thanks so much!!

ps none of my girls have been on a cruise, so its up to me to plan everything and they have no basis for comparison.

We always travel in September. BEAUTIFUL weather. Never hit a hurricane yet...interior cabins are fine. We have used them many times and have never had a problem. We do what we can afford.

Go to COZUMEL ....much nicer than Bahamas.

If you are looking to save money, there is a great place in Cozumel that you will all love. Google Paradise Beach....amazing. :)

Unless you're a person who doesn't like hanging out on the Lido deck during the day or doing some of the activities, getting an interior room is a great way to save money on your cruise. The shorter cruises, for the most part, are the older ships but they are not that much different as far as the activities. All the amenties are basically the same with the exception of the past guest party which is only on cruises 5 days or more. In September, the weather has been good in the Bahamas in late September when I've gone.

If you're looking at the cheapest cruise, don't forget to compare the Taxes/Fees in addition to the cruise price since this could change which cruise is actually cheaper.

Depending on your ship, most activites are the same as the longer cruises..just less days. I personally love the five day ones, not as expensive as a seven day, but still a good amount of days for a cruise.

We usually do an interior, because we like being out and about and rarely stay in the room. We use the saved money for onboard stuff. I think since you are going with friends, you will probably spend little time in the room.

Have fun!

We started cruising in an inside, had 3 outside and 1 balcony and now we'll be back in an inside and honestly I don't think its an issue at all :)

We spend so little time in the cabin that I rarely had time to look out the window. The balcony was very nice but I prefer the larger public decks to be able to spread out on...LOL.

I'm confident that you will have a great time and the savings will make it even better :D

My first cruise was an OV suite. Second cruise was an OV. Third was an extended balcony. Since then, we've sailed in OV, IS, 4k with French doors, Spa OV, and this next one will be a porthole.

Our favorite, of course was the suite (it had 2 bathrooms and separate living and bedroom areas!) but I don't regret any of our IS cabins, even now that we have 1 more person in the cabin with us than when we first started cruising.

It all depends on your personal preference. Sure, I'd like to be able to hang out on the balcony during our cruise, but I didn't get to do that very much even when we HAD a balcony because of our neighbors. So I'd rather save the money and get a less expensive cabin. My friend, on the other hand, won't book less than a balcony because she wants "a way out if something happens." (Yeah, I don't know where she thinks she's going from her balcony, but if it makes her happy...)

my first cruise was 5 of us to an inside cabin on the Sensation.

We fit 5 of us because it saved us over 700.00 to do so.

How many people are you talking about? and are they grown women?

and are they Divas when it comes to getting ready for dinner?

the shorter cruises are usually done on the Fantasy class ships.

Same amenities- shows etc.

Inside cabins are extreme darkness 24 hours a day. use an alarm clock to wake up or you will sleep whole morning away.

We do three or four women in an inside to save money all the time, and always on a 7d ay. We use to do OV, but decided we could do more on shore if we had an inside. You should be fine. I do agree that Cozumel is better than Bahamas. The weather will still be warm either place.

We did a 5-night cruise on the Fantasy and had a good time. It is an older ship. The thing I missed most was that it doesn't have an outside Promenade Deck.

As for staying in an inside cabin, I book whatever is affordable. After DH and I had our first balcony cabin, he said he could never go back to an outside cabin. So I booked us an inside one on our next cruise. We still had a great time. We did miss the balcony, but it wasn't worth the extra money it would have cost on that cruise. The difference in price was $600 per person. That was enough to pay for our airfare and excursions.

yup yup! My first cruise was a porthole room on RCCL's Monarch of the Seas. Second cruise was a picture-window room on the Carnival Valor. Third was a balcony on the Sapphire Princess. All of these were 7 day cruises.

Aaand then I was cruising as a big girl and my parents weren't paying for it. We did an inside stateroom on the Disney Wonder (just a three-day) and didn't mind it all that much, so when we did a 7-day on the Carnival Dream we booked an inside spa cabin. I will say this - compared to Disney's inside rooms, Carnival's are TINY. And we had the highest level inside on the Carnival Dream, vs. the lowest level inside on our Disney cruise.

That said, if it's still a big save to book an inside on a higher deck, I'd say go for it, but I'm not sure I could do a week-long cruise in one of Carnival's inside staterooms on deck 2 or 3. The only reason it wasn't a big deal for us when we sailed the Dream was that (a) we had the spa package and were up there constantly and (b) we were on deck 11 so it was a SUPER short walk to an outside deck/the pool.

Yes, we went from an OV to an interior for a last minute B2B we booked while on the cruise. We decided to see if there were any cabins left so we could stay on the ship another week, since I had won in the casino. 1 left and it was interior, no problems for us. I enjoyed the room being so dark. Would do an interior again but I do love a balcony. Cruised in September 3 times and it is hot but not completely unbearable. Never had any hurricanes during my cruises, knock on wood. :)

We have had a regular balcony and a cove balcony. But we usually book interiors. We have absolutely no problem with it. Why? Because we're hardly ever in our room. Because it's LOVELY to sleep in such a dark room. Because it costs so much less and we can cruise more!

Go and enjoy! What's better than cruising, not working, having fun, being pampered with good food and cabin cleaning?!

I have no problem with interior rooms. I am only in there to sleep. I like taking my cheapest possible option when cruising. It allows me to travel more frequently. I enjoy everything the ship as to offer, just as the person who paid four times as much as me, except a view from my room or a tub.

I have no experience with hurricanes, so I can't help you with that.

We started with a balcony-we were instructed to get a balcony going with a wedding party. I sat out there one day for the whole day. Second cruise our honeymoon, we got an extended balcony, since then it's been an interior with a porthole. Next cruise it's an interior with a french door. We are smokers, and until this cruise could smoke, now no balcony, and they change the rules. But we aren't in the cabin that much, and figured if we can cruise more often, know that we don't spend that much time in our cabin, we are OK with an interior. You will be fine, and happy-you are cruising!:)

Personally I enjoy both ports. I guess i am one of the few that loves the Bahamas. I like the beaches in the Bahamas. Snorkeling is better in Mexico. Guess it depends what you want to do once you get to where you are going.

The only thing we miss when we book an inside versus an ocean view is the natural light that helps wake us up in the morning. Otherwise they are the same.

FYI- The 5-day cruises tend to be on the Fantasy class ships, so the ships are smaller and offer fewer dance and singing shows in the main showroom if you like that sort of thing.

Just cruised in March on the Pride. A great deal came up for Glory from Boston in June. The only way we could justify a cruise so soon was to book inside. We are outside/balcony lovers. DH is claustrophobic, but inside cabins do not bother him. His issue is having 'a way out'. He can't do elevators, but inside cabins are fine. We booked one of the interior inside rooms that are a 'box' rather than the standard inside cabin. Same sq. ft, but much roomier because there isn't that skinny hallway into the sleeping area. It's one big room. The price was amazing and we will save that $$ for the casino/bar! We are VIP and have been in many different cabins. Would I prefer a balcony? Sure I would. But for the price, we can be ON this ship! We will bring a night light though. Hate the pitch dark.

My first 2 cruises were interior with 2 kids in the room with my husband and I. 3rd cruise we stepped it up to a balcony suite that was loaded..... we went back to interior rooms for the last cruise and our next cruise. I found the only thing we did is sleep and shower in our room (an occasionally "married things" hahaha) Whether we had the balcony suite or the interior room we didn't spend anymore time in the room either way. For us it wasn't worth the $400-$500 extra. Thats just me..... Of course I did mark one thing off my bucket list on the balcony room ..... I moved the mattress out on the deck one night and slept all night out there :) It was amazing...!!! I moved it back and my cabin steward and no one was ever the wiser..!!! The balcony was nice and I enjoyed it but I honestly didn't spend any more time in there then I do an interior room so it made no difference to me and my family... I think as long as you set out to enjoy the cruise and knowing going in that you won't have a balcony... you will have a blast...!! HAVE FUN :)

thanks everyone, I'm a little concerned about the lack of sunlight but I think I can manage, like a few of you said...better than no cruise! Now, Cozumel or Bahamas...Cozumel you all say eh?

Cozumel, hands down. Way more to do. Should be warmer.

I've done 4 and 5 and done interior to GSEB. I say book crammed in and low as possible and go for it.

Spend as much time as you can up top and forget it. Each cruise is different.

One great tip for girls' cruising - the spa has terrific showers. Don't try to figure out 5 ladies showering and such in an hour. We made great use of the spa facilities. Towels and such all there!

So you don't have a balcony? The Lido Deck can be your balcony.
