Matching tee shirts questions

Unknotted

Recommended Posts

Me and my siblings have booked a cruise next year on the Dawn, primarily to celebrate one of my sisters anniversary, but also because we've never had a family cruise and want to celebrate "us" since we lost my mom a few years ago and my dad last year.

I was thinking of surprising the others by getting us matching t-shirts to wear for embarkation and maybe on and off during the cruise. That really wouldn't be hard, since they can be ordered online, or even a local t-shirt store in our town. But I am wondering if anyone has any experience in this arena and can give me any pointers.

Can I use the NLC logo on them or should I get permission from NCL? Is there any color that would be too annoying for other passengers (besides life-vest orange?) Do any of you have a favorite online t-shirt store I should check out? Do any of you have an ideas for a cutsey saying I could have printed on them?

Thanks for any help you can give, or suggestions you might have.

We used Custom Ink and did them online. The first we did were tye dye blue with grey letters and we just did black sport sports with white letters.

We put a saying on the front and then listed everyone's names on the back.

When I figure out how to put pictures I will upload both to show you.

Best piece of advice I can offer on this topic: Whatever you do, make sure that the shirts you order are NOT green in color.

Consider yourself warned.

That is too funny!! As it turns out DH does have a long sleeved green polo shirt - I'll see to it that he wears it when we embark the Epic at Barcelona. This will make his tummy disappear! mmmm, I think I'll get one to wear myself, too.

I just showed DH that picture and he said it is definitely going to wear a green shirt. We aren't really into the ship pictures at all and prefer to take our own (we scurry by the photographers when getting on the ship) but he really likes this pic and thinks it would be fun to have one like it.

SEASHARK .... can you please take a picture of the shirt that you wore in the embarkation photo so we (and other posters) have an idea what kind/shade of green to wear.

I showed your pic to my DH - he grinned and said he'll wear his green shirt (hope it's the correct shade). We also scurry past the embark photos but will not this time.

I am not sure the man in the green shirt is SeaShark himself...he or a friend may have found the pic amusing. anyway you can get an idea of the color via google

to the OP...

There are TONS of custom t-shirt companies online, like customink, zazzle, spreadshirt, cafepress, logosportswear and others. I've used cafepress for signs and were happy with them, but I've not done t-shirts one-off like this.

First off, I would go with a bright color because you're celebrating. My mother did tie-dyed back a number of cruises ago to surprise us and everybody loved it. It's hard to pick a color that appeals to everyone or matches everything, but white or black are boring.

As for the logo, I doubt you could get permission from NCL to use theirs. Too much corporate run-around for that to be worth it. I would also keep the saying simple, and while names are fun, when we did this people really didn't wear the shirts. In general people don't like to tell everyone who they are. :)

What about something simple like this (made in a couple of minutes at customink.com)

I'm sure tie-dyed green would show up interesting in the pictures. lol

sdmike, your creation is terrific! I was worried about using our family name, because my brother would be the only one with that last name now. And I didn't want it to be just my sister's married name (the one having the anniversary)...so it was a dilemma. Thanks for the suggestion!

I already gave up the idea of the NCL logo. They have some logos and graphics on their website, but it clearly says they are for promotional use only.

And the idea of green (or green tie-die) sounds like fun...especially if I don't tell anyone else in the family about what may (or may not) happen to the photos, lol.

SIGH...Looks like I've created a monster! :p

Sorry, but the guy in the photo is NOT me, I just happened to find that in a post a while back and kept a copy because its funny!

Just about any shade of green works...some just "work" a little better than others.

The Floating Head Picture Hunt is one activity we love to do when we cruise. Just go to the photo gallery as soon as you can after they put out the embarkation pictures (so you have the largest possible selection)...then start "hunting" for photos of the poor souls who wore green during embarkation...the results are hilarious.

In Oct, 2011, I surprised my mother who was sailing with my DS and her DH for our mothers's 84th birthday. My DS made up sweatshirts for all of us to wear on her birthday. It includued the name of the ship a photo of our mother and a statement to wish her happy birthday if you see her.

The day of her birthday we were on land in Canada and wore the sweatshirts to the casino and on board the ship. People came up and wisher our DM a happy birthday

We've used VistaPrint for shirts many times. Their prices are great, especially if you qualify for free shipping.

We're on a cruise in October and the shirts are coming from Zazzle. They even let you set up your own storefront. I think most of us are ordering the boring white shirts, but we want our red logo to show nicely - we'll have a large group for photographs after our Meet and Greet.

And speaking of a M&G, be sure you go to your rollcall thread. They might even have a theme for your cruise but I like what you have for your signature "don't live to cruise - cruise to live".

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

Seashark...your idea might end up getting me in trouble, but I am SOOO tempted to do it, lol.

Oceandreaming2, there is already a roll call for our cruise, but not really any theme for it. The cruise is still way out, so the roll call is slow, but I am sure it will eventually pick up.

Sam the Cat, I bet your Mom was thrilled to have her birthday celebrated the way you guys did it. That's a cute idea!

I have no idea if this will work or how large this photo will be ... we had 12 shirts ordered for Mom and Dad's 50th anniversary. Bright purple with gold letters.

The back had wedding bells and said "Are we having fun yet?"

The twelve of us certainly stood out.

I would not worry about getting permission for the logo. Most corporate attorney types that worry about his are concerned with people making a PROFIT without giving a cut to NCL.

Your t-shirt guy MIGHT be concerned, but probably not. If so, just use the Letters NCL.

Good idea. Cute. Enjoy.

Words of advice from someone who has designed matching family t-shirts for a Disney trip:

#1 Make sure the ladies in your group like the design or nobody's going to wear them!

#2 Be very careful where you place logos on the front of a lady's shirt. Trust me. Some designs don't translate well!

If you mess on number #2, you will experience #1.

LOL, thanks for the tip. I do have one sister who could add interesting effects to a poorly designed t-shirt...I'll keep that in mind.
