mrshingles Posted June 7, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2012 Whould like to know if someone knows, do the people that clean your room have a master key? There has to be a way to over ride if some one looses there keys, code,or card! How much value would you trust in these safes? Has anyone had a problem with them,or am I just paranoid ?
firefly333 Posted June 7, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 7, 2012 They do not have keys. If you get locked out, you have to call and wait for someone to come unlock it. Happened to me now twice, the time on Carnival, they issued our S&S card mixed up, my credit card with my sister's name .. so they tried to fix it .. and I had locked the safe with my S&S card. Took them 3 tries to fix it .. arrrgh!!! Not one of Carnival's finer moments.. but no the cabin steward cannot unlock it.

larkz Posted June 7, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 7, 2012 I never had any issue locking up cash, thousands of dollars worth of cameras and lenses, a Kindle, a cell phone or anything else. In fact, I've often left valuable gear on the counter or in drawers, without any issues. You may find a few posts on CC to the contrary. On rare occasions, people have popped up here claiming that they were robbed ("...it must have been the room steward...") -- but the stories have been suspicious. I'm skeptical and tend to assume that people will lie their hineys off rather than fess up to their own stupidity. More than likely, a spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend spent it in the casino. Or they simply lost it.

sunshinecruiser62 Posted June 7, 2012 #6 Share Posted June 7, 2012 I'm happy to report we have not had a problem with the safe. Knock on wood.:D We use an old empty gift card to lock and unlock the safe. So far, so good
yogimax Posted June 7, 2012 #7 Share Posted June 7, 2012 Bottom Lne is that someone has to have access to unlock it. Caveat Emptor!
nolababe504 Posted June 7, 2012 #8 Share Posted June 7, 2012 We have never had anything stolen from us. We also leave valuables in the room and drawers, nobody has ever messed with any of it. I know for carnival to unlock the safe you have to call maintenance and they will come with security and open it in front of you. I wouldn't worry to much about it. nolababe504 Posted June 7, 2012 #9 Share Posted June 7, 2012 I will add one more thing. We have left money on the counter for our room Stewart as a extra tip for us to show how much we appreciated him for doing stuff for us. We always bring a cooler and want ice to be filled daily. So after we got back to the cabin, the money we left him was still in the same spot, he didn't touch it. So when we were out to dinner that evening I left him a note on the mirror with a post-it telling him that was for him. So I feel completely safe with leaving stuff out. Maybe I trust people way to much also.

RWolver672 Posted June 7, 2012 #11 Share Posted June 7, 2012 The only thing I've ever read about the safes being bad is that sometimes people don't check to make sure they have taken everything out on the morning of debarkation. There is a lip around the door so you have to actually feel around to make sure you have everything out.
pe4all Posted June 7, 2012 #12 Share Posted June 7, 2012 Very safe! We got locked out once - security had to come and re-set the code for us. Cabin steward can't do it. If using a swipe card - don't leave it on top of the safe - put it in a secure place. Don't want to tempt anyone to do something they shouldn't. Cigar Dude Posted June 7, 2012 #13 Share Posted June 7, 2012 I've never heard of anyone having a problem with the inroom safes. I love them and use them each cruise.

There is a lip around the door so you have to actually feel around to make sure you have everything out. I read that also. I always lift up the little lining and run my fingers around. Twice now I've had to take a piece of jewelery to CS that I found. I left a gorgeous piece a couple of trips ago and asked if I got it if it didn't get claimed or restored to previous occupant! I've left valuables on the counter (not on purpose) and never had an issue. Have thought hubby locked the safe and hubby thought I locked the safe and never had an issue. Just can't see the steward jeopardizing their job over a theft. JMHO? I always trust the safe to do it's job. :)

If you hide your card in the room and it's found it could be used but I've also never heard this happened.

A piece of jewelry could easily get under it. I keep jewelry in a box, not loose.
