CRUISING71 Posted June 12, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2012 How come most ships that dock in Puerto Rico doesn't dock more than 8 hours? Most are 7 hours only.
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted June 12, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2012 Probably has to do with port fees.....
rummenroman Posted June 12, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2012 I would agree with port fees, that or they don't have the time in their schedule to make it from their home port to PR and then onto their next port in time.
Ocean Boy Posted June 12, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2012 I find these short stops in San Juan quite disappointing. This is a port that is well worth a full day.
mn_isla_girl Posted June 12, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2012 You guys all have to book a cruise that sails from San Juan, then just fly in a day early or spend one at the end. ;)

Ocean Boy Posted June 12, 2012 #7 Share Posted June 12, 2012 You guys all have to book a cruise that sails from San Juan, then just fly in a day early or spend one at the end. ;) We have done that several times. We love San Juan as well as the southern Caribbean itineraries.
Starfire_rules Posted July 12, 2012 #8 Share Posted July 12, 2012 I chose my last cruise not only for the ports I have never been to but, also to spend more time in PR. Loved it so much, I booked it again! Sent from my iPod Touch using Tapatalk
Lard Greystoke Posted July 12, 2012 #9 Share Posted July 12, 2012 I doubt that the port time has anything to do with travel to/from the next destination. San Juan is so close to the Virgin Islands that the ship probably sails in circles most of the night. I am also one who has visited San Juan twice as a cruise stop and found it nothing but an appetizer. So this winter I am using it as the embarkation port and spending a couple of days exploring the island itself.
Herfnerd Posted July 12, 2012 #10 Share Posted July 12, 2012 We staying a day after our Victory cruise this coming September - something tells me that its not going to be nearly enough time!
sail7seas Posted July 12, 2012 #11 Share Posted July 12, 2012 We love San Juan and would always opt for a cruise that stops there over a cruise that does not...... it would be the deciding factor. We've had a great many resort stays there long before we started cruising. :)
Gem Lover Posted July 24, 2012 #12 Share Posted July 24, 2012 We love San Juan so well that we take some extra days around Columbus Day & fly down. We like to stay at the San Juan Marriott. It has a great pool an beach. There are some great deals on Cheap Caribbean, although this year we got a better deal through Orbitz. We also like cruising out of San Juan because of the great southern Caribbean Islands (Aruba, Curacao). There seem to be less and less options for cruises out of San Juan. I don't know why. Gem:)
