bickee Posted June 26, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2012 Hi! I am not a newbie to cruising but this is my first real suite and first time on NCL! Couple of questions I hope you can answer! 1. Can you get basic breakfast foods (like the menu in the main dining room) in Cagney's? I looked at the menu and while it seems nice I don't always eat such heavy stuff for breakfast! I do love the idea of a special place to go however. 2. As far as the butler, what are some special things you use him/her for? ie, can I request milk for my son, water, soda to be replenished? Special snacks? I have no idea what to ask for! :D 3. Is there anywhere to plug in and use an Ipod? I felt like I read somewhere that there was, but I could have been dreaming. 4. I am SO confused about kids club. If anyone could shed light...I know they are revamping and changing it up, but I keep reading that I CAN drop my 2 year old off at this time. I hope so! Looking forward to some alone time as well! Thanks SO much. Looking so forward to our trip!!!
LadyShiva Posted June 26, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 26, 2012 Help us out a bit. What type of suite did you book? The answers to some of your questions are different between a SF and an Owner's Suite. :)
bickee Posted June 26, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted June 26, 2012 Oh sorry! It's a 2 bed family suite on the star, SC penthouse I believe!
valleyvillage Posted June 26, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2012 They will try to get you anything you want in Cagney's for breakfast. If they are serving it somewhere on the ship, they will most likely get it for you. In addition to the menu, there is a very nice buffet with fresh fruit, cereal, breads, fish, etc. You won't have a problem there.
bickee Posted June 26, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted June 26, 2012 Oh perfect, thank you! I can't imagine eating steak and eggs each morning but DH might feel differently!
coffeecat Posted June 26, 2012 #6 Share Posted June 26, 2012 There is a very nice little buffet in Cagney's in the morning which has cereal, fruit, pastries, yogurt, juice etc so you can definitely get stuff on the lighter side. Also, if you want something like plain pancakes you can order it without all the toppings. They can do eggs any style. The kids club question is a good one-previously 2+ you could drop off but they are moving things around...I think through this year 2+ will still have drop off but I am not sure. The butler can be really helpful in bringing drinks, snacks, pressing, setting up little cocktail parties, bringing movies etc. It really can vary. On our last cruise we had the butler bring one lunch to the room and deliver dinner once from a restaurant when I left early (basically he dropped off a tray for the dinner per our request but you can have dinner with white table cloth etc for sure). On previous cruises we have had a few people over for cocktails and snacks. Just study the board before you leave so you can find out what they can do. We have had very good to excellent butlers however I have read that some people aren't told of the full perks that come with the suite so knowing ahead of time helps! We only had an iPod plug in the Gem Owner's suite a couple years ago...not in any others that we have sailed in (SF Penthouses to the Haven suites). If you post your ship and cabin type I am sure someone could answer specifically. Have a great cruise. You will love NCL.
LadyShiva Posted June 26, 2012 #7 Share Posted June 26, 2012 In a SC, you do not have free sodas in the can or free water bottles. The mini-bar drinks will not be free, for example. However, you can request your butler bring you milk cartons to keep in the cleared fridge, or a pitcher of juice for your munchkin.
Hikini Posted June 26, 2012 #8 Share Posted June 26, 2012 As others have said, the side buffet in Cagney's is really nice and can be all the breakfast you have, if you want. I like a heavier breakfast but do enjoy the fruit and things at the Cagney's buffet too.
Nalagh Posted June 26, 2012 #9 Share Posted June 26, 2012 As others have said, the side buffet in Cagney's is really nice and can be all the breakfast you have, if you want. I like a heavier breakfast but do enjoy the fruit and things at the Cagney's buffet too. You can also order half portions and limit the side as I do. I order half a french toast with berries and get the rest at the fresh fruit bar. It is a wonderful way to start the morning. Also, if you are leaving in the early morning, just ask for cagney's in your room. Your butler will bring your entree plus whatever you ask for from the breakfast bar.:)

Savaann Posted June 26, 2012 #11 Share Posted June 26, 2012 Hi! You will love going to Cagney's for breakfast. We found it much quieter and with faster service than going to the buffet. We were able to order anything that was being served in the buffet but we didn't ask about things being served in the MDR. I found there to be plenty of outlets in our room (SC on the GEM). Outlets by the bed and in the bathroom that would work for an iPod station. Kids age 2 and over are still welcome to use the kids club until 12-31-2012. I am not sure what the policy will be after that. My son had just celebrated his 2nd birthday the week before our trip and he did go and play there once. Once your butler gets to know you, he'll bring what you like. He knew our daughter loved PBJ sandwiches. When he would see us return from our daily excursion, he would bring one to the room right away :) He also brought us milk and cookies each night after we asked him to do it on the first night. So really, you can ask him for whatever you want.
VideoTech Posted June 26, 2012 #12 Share Posted June 26, 2012 Other suggestions regarding the butler: We enjoy having fresh fruit available to snack on, and to take on shore excursions. With a simple request, the fruit basket is endlessly re-filled with exactly what we want! I'm a serious coffee drinker, and I love the Lavazza machines in the Penthouse suites. I always ask the butler to keep it well stocked with extra pods and creamer, since I'll be making coffee many times a day. I'm pretty sure you'll get the hang of having a butler after a day or two! CornMuffinsMama Posted June 26, 2012 #13 Share Posted June 26, 2012 We were on the Star to Alaska in May 2010 and I usually set out the breakfast order for myself the night before since I was usually just lounging around being lazy in the mornings instead of getting up and going to Cagney's w/ my husband for breakfast. We also used the butler for ordering hot chocolate. My favorite was when we cruised down to Glacier Bay, we had our butler bring us a couple of extra blankets and two carafes of hot chocolate. We were in an Aft Penthouse Suite and just sat out on our balcony in our robes on the lounge chairs under blankets drinking hot chocolate watching the view from our room instead of fighting for a spot up on the decks. coyotecruising Posted June 26, 2012 #14 Share Posted June 26, 2012 It's your first time with the butler? You'll enjoy it, you can ask the butler direcltly if you're in doubt what he can do for you. There's no problem pluggin in your ipod!

What I did was read as many reviews on CC of pax travelling in a NCL suite. I printed them and highlighted any info I wanted to remember. THen when it came time for my cruise I re-read them and made a few notes. It really made it worth while. Did I mention you will love it?
sverigecruiser Posted June 26, 2012 #16 Share Posted June 26, 2012 If you want the best available table in a restaurant and the best service, let your butler escort you. We should never have thought about it ourself but on our last cruise, on the Epic, our butler asked about it himself and we let him escort us. It may sound rediculous but it was very nice! darbmark Posted June 26, 2012 #17 Share Posted June 26, 2012 Can't you make hot chocolate using the Lavazza coffee machine? (The hot chocolates come in those little containers, right?) So, I won't need a butler to bring me hot chocolate when I can make it myself.
Rare mizLORInj Posted June 26, 2012 #18 Share Posted June 26, 2012 We didn't want a sit-down brkfst at Cagney's every single morning so the other days we went to the Great Outdoors (all the way aft) for breakfast and plenty of outdoor seating. bickee Posted June 26, 2012 Author #20 Share Posted June 26, 2012 I thought of another question, what kind of breakfast/room service can you get delivered? Is it the normal room service menu or something special? ;) Can't wait!!!

sbt518 Posted June 27, 2012 #25 Share Posted June 27, 2012 I've seen on here that you can order from a specialty restaurant and pay the fee but I've also seen people post that the fee only applies if you order an entree. What is the policy on this? If I order the tiramisu from the Italian restaurant for a late night snack, do I pay the cover charge? Can I even do that or do you have to order a whole meal? In a Penthouse suite on Star if that makes a difference.
