Ethernet on Ryndam?

Hi,

Do staterooms on Ryndam still have ethernet connections? I thought I might pack my laptop, hoping that the wired signal would be faster than wifi.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Amy:)

To the best of my knowledge no ship of any company has every had Ethernet in the cabins.

It wouldn't help with the speed. You'd still have to be going through the satellite connection. When we've had to use our cells on board (also going through the satellite) we've really noticed the lag in being able to talk. Not going to be fast. Period.

There are no ethernet ports available on any HAL ship, nor on Princess or Celebrity (as I recall).

Actually, Celebrity Solstice class ships have ethernet as well as the Crystal Serenity. I prefer the hard connection, but the difference in speed is minimal.

For a fee, the Ryndan has WiFi in public areas, but not in the staterooms.

WiFi extends to the staterooms. Reception can vary, depending on how far from an antenna your cabin is, though.

All HAL cabins have WiFi though as Ruth says, it can vary how strong a signal we can get in our particular cabin.

We just left Oosterdam and our cabin was immediately across from Neptune Lounge where there was a strong signal yet I could hardly get any signal at all two feet across the hall in our cabin.

I went into Neptune when I wished to use my netbook.

Here are the wi-fi antenna locations on the Maasdam. They will probably be similar on the Ryndam.

Wifi repeaters on Maasdam cabin decks are outside the following cabins:

[

Deck 4 port – 712, 732, 764, 804, 840

Deck 4 starboard – 713, 737, 759, 789, 825

Deck 5 port – 524, 556, 594, 634, 670

Deck 5 starboard – 523, 557, 589, 629, 665

Deck 6 port – 310, 326, 344, 376, 404

Deck 6 starboard – 311, 323, 341, 375, 403

Deck 9 port – 110, 128, 154, 182, 210

Deck 9 starboard – 111, 139, 167, 195

Deck 10 port – 008, 016, 026, 040

For a fee, the Ryndan has WiFi in public areas, but not in the staterooms. I plan to use my iPad for email on the July 7th sailing.

I had no trouble getting wifi reception on Ryndam in April, at least for my laptop and Kindle Fire. The iPad I had to take to the library to get any decent connection.
