Smeecanada Posted July 22, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2012 Hello, Need ideas on what to do on Disembarkation day. We disembark on a Sunday (Sep 2) and our flight is at 6:25pm from Newark. We will have spent 3 days in New York prior to the cruise. Looking for options of to what to do with our luggage, what time we need to head to the airport and how to get to the airport. Family of 4 - two adults - two older teens. Usually, we cruise out of Florida and rent a car on disembarkation day and get ourselves to the airport. Never gone out of New York, so it's a bit of an unknown. Is there anything to do in the Newark Airport area?
Rare 1025cruise Posted July 22, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2012 There really is nothing in Newark. Any chance of getting an earlier flight?
138east Posted July 22, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 22, 2012 Right - nothing in Newark. To check luggage - Schwartz Travel on W. 36th St. Easy access to the airport bus from 40th & 8th or to Penn Station at 32nd & 8th for the train to EWR. You would have to be on your way by 4 pm. With luggage the airport bus will be easier. It leaves from the street by Port Authority Bus terminal and drops you right at the terminal at EWR. The train involves getting your luggage into Penn Station and down to the train and from Newark Airport Station to the monorail to your terminal. Rare Got2Cruise Posted July 22, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 22, 2012 If you do rent a vehicle you can go to Liberty State Park or the Liberty Science museum, they are in Jersey City, not far from Newark by car.
Smeecanada Posted July 22, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted July 22, 2012 No chance of an earlier flight. Only two direct flights a day - one early am and one in early pm. Can't make early am due to disembarkation time. We have to fly to Seattle and then connecting flight to Canada.

cruise 101 Posted July 23, 2012 #8 Share Posted July 23, 2012 How much approximately?
smeyer418 Posted July 23, 2012 #9 Share Posted July 23, 2012 How much approximately? taxi to penn station or the port authority bus terminal is 10-15 per cab not per person. the bus is about $18 pp. while its not cheap you can have a limo for about $50 per hour take you around the city and then to the airport. but by the time you store your luggage and do the same things its probably not that much more.... Smeecanada Posted July 24, 2012 Author #12 Share Posted July 24, 2012 Okay. So, it looks like taking a taxi would be our best option due to cost and number of people. I would like to get to Newark airport by around 4 - 4:15 pm for our flight. What time should we leave Manhattan - assuming we will most likely be where Schwartz luggage storage is? Approx. cost of taxi?

Approx. cost of taxi? I'd recommend a car service rather than a taxi from Manhattan to EWR...you're likely to get a more comfortable car...four adults in the typical NY City taxi isn't a comfortable situation...and the taxi may have trouble accommodating your luggage. If you are lucky enough to find a larger SUV or mini van taxi you would be OK, but there's no guarantee you'll be able to hail one, while with a car service you will reserve an appropriately sized vehicle. I'd suggest leaving Manhattan by 3 pm. I'd estimate fare to be about $65 plus tolls and tip...about $90-95 total...this is a little higher than you might expect simply because 4 adults plus luggage will need at least a mini van or equivalent.
