what to do own my own in Monaco

The short answer is yes. Like most places, you can do just about anything you want on your own. Getting around Monte Carlo involves walking, using the escalators/elevators, and perhaps taking a local bus and/or taxi (a good idea to get up to the Palace). For most tourists it makes sense to invest a little money in a decent small (so you can carry it with you) guide book. We personally like many of the Rick Steves books although Fodor also has some decent small guide books.

Hank gave a good reply.I have spent some time there and alone one or two times as well.I love wandering the street/shops etc. seeing the sites, and then wandering over to the Monte Carlo side and shopping...not all the stores are super $$$ and there are some nice little places to eat as well. The American casino is fun to wander in as well. You will not be bored.:D

Take the local bus for 1€ up to the Exotic Garden. Very beautiful and the views are awesome!

I second this! This is exactly what we did when in Monte Carlo. When we were ready to leave the garden, we got back on the public bus (bus stop right out in front of the garden) and rode to the palace. From there, we just wandered in Monaco-ville, enjoying the shops and a great seafood salad at an outdoor cafe. Then, we easily walked back to the ship (all downhill).

Go to website http://www.visitmonaco.com and download the discount vouchers (discount for popular sites like Palais Princier, Jardin Exotique, Musee Oceanographic etc) Site will also give you suggestions on some DIY walking tours on the brochure section. Buses are 1euro (ticket good for 2.5 hours) Daypass only 3euro.

If you want to leave Monaco, a couple of hours to Eze is worth thinking about. You can take the bus there as well for 1euro.

We easily used the little white tourist train between Monacco & Monte Carlo..Some didn't realize that they could hop off in front of the casino and hop on again when they wanted to go back up the hill to Monacco.

Could you direct me to where on that site they offer discount vouchers. I wasn't able to find where they are offered.

Thanks!

Oh Oh, don't forget a quick stop into the Jacques Cousteau Oceanographic Museum. It is up on the "rock" near the gardens and palace. Just looking at the outside of the building is a treat ! There is also the church where Princess Grace and Prince Rainier are buried. We found the rock area of Monaco much more fun than the casino/shop area of Monte Carlo. We did however take a bit of time to sit outside at the Cafe de Paris right outside the casino entrance and people watch while having a crepe and coffee. NOW that was interesting. As for shopping, bring a credit card with a large credit limit  as we did find the stores to be expensive. Gorgeous stuff tho - and I am a shopper !
