This is how I Cruise!

My wife and I love to cruise. We cruise about every 2 years. Every cruise we have been on was very enjoyable! About 20 years ago I found out if "I don't sweat the small stuff" life is really great! I only worry about the things that that I can change. ME! Found out I cannot change people, places and things. I can only control my actions not others. So since then my life has been much much better and easier. So when we cruise I really do not care what people are doing that does not affect me. I always wear a suit on formal nights. Nice pants and shirt on the other nights. I have never wore shorts or tshirts into dinner. Have I seen others wear that yes but my meal was great and other people did not bother me.

We always sit on the deck above the pool always chairs there, so chair hogs don't affect us. When we go to shows in the theater we sit in the balcony 1st row above the stage right side. We have sat in the same seats on 6 cruises never anyone up there. We have watched arguments over saving seats below quite comical. I have never had a bad meal in the MDR some are better than others but never a bad one. I do not go to the smoking side of the ship and cover my nose & mouth and make sarcastic remarks to smokers. I go to the other side where there is no smoking. If smoke is bothering my wife or I we go some where else. (Big Ship!) Now RC is not sending out luggage tags.OMG! I guess I will have to print them out or have the porters put them on. How long are they really needed on my luggage. If someone pays to have luggage holders good for them, also if they decide to have the porters put them on good for them. I have already prepaid our tips for our upcoming Allure Cruise and I may even tip more if I get good service. I have only cruised Royal Carribean that is because I have never had a bad cruise so I do not know if other lines are better, don't really care because I do like Royal. I work in the service industry and treat the staff the way I like to be treated in my world. I believe that if all the American Service Companies trained their people like Royal does things would be much smoother. Try talking to your cell provider or cable provider.

I guess this is just my little rant take it any way you want but I already know that on Nov. 25 - Dec. 2 I will be relaxed and enjoying time with my wife. Life is hectic vacations are there to enjoy!

+1!

I guess we have more in common than just umpiring and fandom.

We travel the same way, we try to plan ahead for any hiccups, and go with the flow when they do happen.

I also lost my parents three yrs ago, Dad on 9/25/09 and Mom on 9/27/09. two weeks before they died I had no idea they had any health problems, not sure if they did either.

So during the two weeks they were on hospice and since then, we make many jokes about their passing. I could mope and dwell on the fact that they died two days apart and how horrible it is to go through something like that, but instead we continue on with our lives loving each other more, and not caring about the things we have no control over.

Cruising is our escape we eat too much, we drink (way) too much, we laugh, and play and relax, and if your steak in the MDR was too rare or too well and it ruined your cruise, I dont give flying F.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I love this post!!! My husband and I cruise about 3 times a year and always go on with this same attitude, only we can make our vacation bad. We always talk with the staff and make a point of talking first as some are quiet but once you talk they are very open.

At a bridal shower (on Grandeur of the Seas); we were asked to provide some wisdom for the bride-to-be. Mine "Don't sweat the small stuff, and the wisdom to identify the difference." :D

DH and I always have a great time on each and every cruise we take. When they ask which is our favorite - the answer is - the one we're on. :D

Haha. Northwest Burbs my daughter & family lives up there by Huntly. Me down near Starved Rock. Just might have to cancel the cruise when my wife sees the Visa bill from today. I am a White Season Ticket Holder ( Weekends ) they just gave us a chance to buy more playoff tickets so I bought 4 more seats for all the games. Hope she has the "Don't sweat the small stuff" attitude today! For the Cub Fans just remember for 105th time you get to say "Wait until next Year!":D

Don't mean to get off topic, but I have to butt in here. We lived for 15 years in Ottawa. Are you close to there? I ran a gift/bath shop downtown for a number of years. We moved to Az in 2001. We still consider Ottawa home as our daughter grew up there. It is beautiful country. I love Starved Rock. But the winters are better here.:D

With cruising and baseball it's just like you said, don't sweat the small stuff. I enjoy both tremendously and never do understand all the hate spewed here on CC or sometimes in the stands?

It is truly a pleasure reading all the positive comments here!

I live in Elgin and work only a few miles from Huntley. If you need anyone to take a few playoff tickets off your hands you know who to contact.:D

We were on a cruise and walking back to the ship from an excursion. It started to pour down rain.

My wife and I just continued to walk even though we got soaked. Others did the same and didn't complain.

You control what happens on a cruise. I have some mental health issues. We were on a cruise in Dec of 2010 and I couldn't make myself to enjoy it after the first day..

But then it all changed as I walked around the ship and saw others enjoying themselves in a variety of ways.

I lost my job a month later and we haven't been able to cruise and now I miss it even more.

My wife was laid of in June 2010 and just found a job two weeks ago.

I was granted disability.

Hopefully we can cruise in the near future
