celebrity cruisers seem aggresive .

Having not perused the other boards in any depth, I cannot say if the Celebrity board is more aggressive. What I can say is a person's behavior changes when on the internet. People will say things on a chat board they would not even consider saying in a room of people.

So true. I've noticed a difference in tone on the general board and on Roll Calls. When you post on a Roll Call you understand that you may actually meet fellow posters and tend to be on your best behavior. There is almost an assumption that when you post on the general board you will remanin unknown. This holds true on every board I've posted on!

#3 I guess you're referring to the drink package? True, it is Celebrity rule that if one person in the cabin buys the package, the other must too. "Share and share alike" may be part of married life but it stops with the drinks package. ;)

Either I misunderstand what you are saying or this is totally wrong. Both people don't need to buy the package. Did you really think this?

This made me LOL in an ironic way. Like others have said, I've never seen any of this attitude while on a ship, but you'd certainly get that impression from reading some threads here... It's nice that we can laugh about it though. After all, we're talking about cruising, not world peace. We don't ever want to take ourselves that seriously.

Guess all the snobs have to gather somewhere - all rich, overeducated, entitled, true foodies, chair hogs (even in Al Bacio), child haters, booze smugglers, etc. But we all love wearing our tee shirts and ripped jeans on Formal Nights!

Come join us!

As a general rule of thumb, I have found the people on the Carnival boards to be very helpful and informative.

The RCI boards have lots of loyalists. They are very defensive of the brand they attach themselves to.

The Celebrity board is pretty quiet. A lot think they are a bit special because they can afford one of the more expensive cruise lines. Not everyone, but a disproportionate amount.

You could not be more wrong. I've found that at times, Celebrity's fares are less than similar cruises for Royal Caribbean and even Carnival. The price of the cruise fare has nothing to do with anything. There are nasty people who post on NCL and there are nice people there. There are obnoxious people who post on Seabourn, Silversea, Regent and Crystal, the most expensive cruise lines, and there are really great people on those boards. But those on the luxury lines boards have gotten into their share of disagreements. It's not just on one board.

True. Especially when the new people want to change an established cruise line to suit their particular preferences. Instead of booking with Celebrity for what it is, they want to change it to what they want it to be. Unfortunately, many of the long time Celebrity cruisers like it just the way it is and don't want it changed. Can't fault them for trying to protect a product they like.

Those long time Celebrity cruisers aren't hesitant to complain about the music in the Martini lounge!

You can just look at the title of some new threads and just know it will get things going...Like this one!

I know that I've voiced my opinion on Elite perks and I can be quite strong in giving my opinion. Don't know how frequently you've been on a Celebrity cruise and if you are Elite, but let's just say that frequent cruisers who are Elite understand the problems with the program as it is currently designed. Don't want to say much here since any comments would hijack this thread. I believe rather than "aggressive" some of us tend to be "strong advocates" for our positions and recommendations. This is a positive rather than a negative since we simply want to enhance the total experence.

I've never been on a Celebrity cruise - I have my first one booked for next March. I was just reading up on things here.

You are new to cruising so it's all a learning curve to you yet. Some of the things you mention, though, are hard-fast rules on both Celebrity and the cruise ship industry as a whole. Regarding #1, you absolutely may not smoke on the balcony of any Celebrity ship. (If you sail Royal Caribbean, however, you may, but not on X.) You can almost be assured that if someone on a Celebrity ship smells smoke on your balcony, they will make a complaint and you may be fined. I think the fee is $250 or thereabouts. Celebrity is known for its clean air balconies--you don't w ant to mess around with this one! #2 I've never noticed anyone giving anyone dirty looks if they're smoking in a place that's designated for their use and enjoyment. The dirty looks start if they're not in their allotted territory! #3 I guess you're referring to the drink package? True, it is Celebrity rule that if one person in the cabin buys the package, the other must too. "Share and share alike" may be part of married life but it stops with the drinks package. ;) #4 No one likes any child running amok but I hope you haven't formed the impression that Celebrity passengers dislike children because that's not true! There typically aren't as many children aboard as sister line Royal Caribbean, but the ones that do cruise certainly aren't considered a nuisance! #5 No, you mustn't take certain foods from the ship, such as fruits and vegetables, but that's not Celebrity's rule. That is the rule of every port no matter where you go. #6 Celebrity allows you 2 bottles of wine per cabin but you are correct in saying that all other alcohol is forbidden and will be taken and not returned to you, either. That's clearly stated at the port so you know well beforehand the fate of any contraband bottles.

thankyou for your information it is reassuring.

just to confirm, i may bring on 2 bottles of wine from each port , even if we have 6 ports ?

this is some good news as i was looking forward to a glass on my balcony.:)

Sorry! Not clear here. What I meant is that one classic or premium drinks package can't be purchased with the intent of splitting it--ie, "two for the price of one." ;)

Hi Everyone,

IMHO, I feel that this Forum is quite friendly, and rarely aggressive. I also feel that we are fortunate to have so many regulars, who truly enjoy helping other CC members. When things get out of control, Host Walt or Myself immediately take the appropriate action. Please keep in mind that Cruise Critic Hosts are volunteers, and all share a common bond. We do this for our passion for Cruising, sharing our insights, & helping others.

I think what some might consider aggressive, is what I see as strong passion for a Cruise line that has been an important part of many of our lives. That's certainly the case for me. I think & talk about all things Celebrity (and Azamara) far too often, and probably need help with that :).

Regarding our Cruise Critic Members, I totally feel as if we are a Family - more now that ever, with all of your loving support from My Dad's recent passing. It's helped me tremendously, and I will *never* forget your outpouring of well wishes and heartfelt comments, during our extremely difficult time. I'm proud to call each and every one of you, my dear friends. I'm honored to have met so many of our Cruise Critic Family over the years, and look forward to meeting many new friends on the Group Cruise planned for 2013.

Thanks for allowing me to share my thoughts.

This board is no worse than any of the other boards. One of the worst years ago was the Disney board when the Disney ships first came out. This was prior to other Disney sites which now dominate. Cruise critic was at the time exclusively under AOL and if you said anything negative about any of the Disney ships you were immediately bombarded with nasty posts and even worse IMS which became very personal.

I'm certain that you'll enjoy your first Celebrity cruise and will come back for more. I've met wonderful fellow cruisers and some have become friends. I've met many who post and it's great to be able to place a face with a name. Go to the Roll Call for your crusie to meet your fellow cruisers. I'm sure the experienced Celebrity cruisers will be more than pleased to answer any questions. I would also select some posters who appear to be fair in their comments and see what they say.

1. I will be hung drawn and quatered if i smoke on a balcony

2.Given dirty looks if i smoke in the designated area near the spa

3.reported if i drink my husbands drink

4.must be vigilant at all times in case my son breaks into a run.

5.must not take food from the boat

6. do not and i mean do not ( there is even a name for it !)bring alcohol on the boat.

On the upside i did find a couplke of bits of info that interested me

The cc breakfast menu is good and sometimes its sunny in the med.

Yes, someone will report if you smoke on your balcony. And has been stated numerous times, why book a cruise line with the most restrictive smoking policy if you smoke?

Your number 5 comment is not a cruise line rule nor is it something the people on these boards make up. The laws about taking food off the ship are made by the governments of the countries you're visiting. If you want to bring food off the ship, and risk being apprehended, no one really cares. But the posters here are just attempting to warn you of the consequences.

Your number 6 comment is a bit strange to be honest. No one here cares what you try and smuggle on board. But those same people here are just trying to warn you of the consequences of smuggling should you be caught. I don't give a rat's behind what others try and bring on the ship, as long as it won't cause harm to others on board. Smuggle all the booze you want, and God bless.

What gets me is, people come here and ask questions about cruising, but when they don't get the response they want (smuggling, smoking, etc.), they blame the messenger. Most here are just imparting information from their vast cruising experiences, but when the information given doesn't jive with what these new cruisers want, we're the ones who are castigated. Go figure.

PS, YEAH Andy. Constantly the voice of reason.

No, the rule is two bottles of wine, per cabin, per cruise. Not two bottles per port. If you bring back alcohol from a port, they most likely will take it and keep it until the last night of the cruise.

I wish!!! I'd be one happy camper if that were true. It's not, though. :( Two bottles on embarkation and that's it. We were at one port and I bought some local wine while we were out sightseeing and the minute we got back on ship and it went through the scanner the guy yelled (very loudly) BAR!!! and someone came over and took my bottles for check-in. They label it with your stateroom number and it's given back to you when you debark.

No, that's not right! You are allowed two bottles of wine from your embarkation port only. You're not allowed to bring any on board from your ports of call.

You can bring it on from ports of call, but Security will guard it for you until the end of your cruise. Some stores will deliever purchases to the ship for you and that too will be given to you at the end of the cruise.

I think you are miss understanding me , i dont smoke ( maybe the odd one at birthdays and christmas ) so no interest in the policy but would respect it, i dont drink a lot so i dont need to smuggle drink on board . my point is on looking for the finer points of cruising and information on fine dining , quaint bars or fun areas for children i find them hard to find but constantly stumble upon the above rules and how people feel about said rules over and over again. Its like the house of lords on here.

Have you done a thread seach for the topics that interest you? Remember, if you have a specific question that has not been answered you can always start a new thread as you started this one. You can also go to the celebrity site for specific information on topics such as "dining". There you will find descriptions of venues and menus. You comment concerning "House of Lords" was probably not the best thing to say. May be considered aggressive by some.

I regret ever using the word aggresive , passionate /protective would be better. i have asked how i can change the title but to no avail .

Put that in your pipe and smoke it was posted on a heated smoking thread and was intended to put a bit of light hearted humour into the dabate.

smoking thread = smoke + pipe !

silly me , of course you are going to take it to the extreme , why not ? as i already mentioned Defensive, protective , maybe aggressive light humour....NO WAY.

Thankyou its nice to be aware of the kind of people i will be cruising with.

I have found out a few things on this site that i know to be aware of

1. I will be hung drawn and quatered if i smoke on a balcony

2.Given dirty looks if i smoke in the designated area near the spa

3.reported if i drink my husbands drink

4.must be vigilant at all times in case my son breaks into a run.

Really ..The contemporary role of the House of Lords is primarily to act as a body of specialist knowledge that scrutinises in greater detail bills that have been approved by the House of Commons.

How is that aggressive , all you have to do is change the house of lords bit to celebrity cruises and that is pretty much what most of the threads turn into.

Do i really have to go through all the pages of threads to find the comments to copy and paste each one ?
