whale season

I would like to take a cruise to Hawaii and I am looking at the December 7th cruise. My main reason for taking this cruise is to watch the whales. So does anyone know what the whale population is in December versus January? Thanks

Dec. 7 is a little early, but you will probably still see some. We go out on a fishing boat in Kona with friends every year the first week in December and don't remember ever seeing any then. You might see more in Maui. I think the season peaks in January - March.

You might see a few, but they are just arriving, and very few babies will be born yet.

Do you have a company you recommend for whale watching? Your recommendations for Alaska were great. We are going to be there in February/early March. And is there a island you recommend.

We cruised Hawaii last December from the 2nd through the 17th and it was too early to see the whales. February you will definitely see them!

I guess the seasons vary. We went in early December several years ago and we saw a ton of whales. We did a snorkel trip from Lahaina to Lanai and saw several breech, including two side by side. The naturalist aboard couldn't contain her excitement and described what we had seen as the "holy grail" of whale watching.
