Yes... Again...Luggage Tags - printed size?

Yes i'm beating a dead horse here but scrolled a few other luggage tag threads and cant find the answer.

Does anyone have theirs printed and can do a quick measurement of them for me?

I was going to order from Serpendipity/Amazon but once I looked at them... there has to be something similar out there for cheaper (there's 10 travelling in my group next time... will be minimally $70-75 from Serependity - then add on duty taxes etc)

For a fraction of the cost... i've come across these

Depending on the size of the tags these might work too

If I was doing Fort Lauderdale I would no problem since I know that port/processes like the back of my hand. This time i'm sailing with group of 10 and i'm the "cruise director"... 2 newbies and 5 that have only sailed once & really didn't pay attention the last time. We'll be at a totally new pier to all of us (plus it's the 'back up' pier for Honolulu so who knows what will happen there!).

It will be much easier to just say to everyone the night before - here's your tag and cable tie, attach it to your suitcases. When we get off the shuttle we just have to stand back and watch the bags get loaded on board.

Found an even better deal: $.44 each (quantity discounts over 25), $3.50 shipping on orders under $50 (free shipping above that).

I bought these tags from amazon. 8 for $24. Even though they aren't free like printing and stapling the paper ones, I can reuse these on my cruises in the future. I have 10 people in my group too, so I bought 16 tags total, 2 sets.

The actual size of the luggage tag is 1.75 in wide by 5.5 in long (not 11 in. as posted previously). The tag is folded in half so it has printing on both sides. The one from Staples would be too small. The one from Office Max looks like it would fit.

My solution was to order clear vinyl bookmark sleeves. I found a lady on ebay selling them. I got 10 for $9.50 and that included the shipping. Did later find her website (listed in her email) and where you can order a larger quantity or just check on ebay. She gave me permission to share her website its: vikwing dot com. Here's what I did to make them work as luggage tags:

I folded the point down to determine where I could punch a hole in the base of the bookmark sleeve. I used a hand hole punch and now I am able to fold down the pointed end with align it with the hole I made. I did have to fold one edge over slightly to get the hole punch where I needed it. I will then attach it to our luggage with electric twist ties. I'm attaching photos below.

I'm not sure if you would really need to punch the hole, but this allows for the opening where you put the luggage tag to be closed and no doubt of losing it. It really took me little time to do four.

I took 5 tags to Kinkos this morning and laminated all 5 on one 8 1/2 x 11 sheet, cut them and attached tags. $2.17. Granted they are not re-usable but they were cheap.

Picked up some ideas from previous posts so some of this not original.

Printed the tags. Cut to size. Covered with clear packing tape. Folder over. Punch hole.

Attached with cable ties which I had, or use pony tail holders or twist ties or heavy string.

Took me i5 minutes. Cost basicly nothing as I already had the clear tape and the cable ties. Call me cheap, frugal what ever. I feel this method is as good as the store bought.

Good Luck

Good way to go. So wish we had a Kinko's. Closest place I could probably go would be Office Depot, which is about 30 min. away. :(

I don't call it frugal or cheap. I call it a smart way to go! I found myself on a crusade to find a way to have a luggage tag I could reuse...go figure. ;)

I really like all of the ideas given here. People are creative and inventive, and I'm always glad to hear others ideas and learn from their experiences. It's what I like most about Cruise Critic.

Wonder when RCCL will start selling luggage tags on board (for a very hefty price) to fit their new printable tag?

Thanks for the tip on bookmark holders. I found sites selling 25 packs of vinyl bookmark sleeves for under $7.

Cool! Too bad I missed that. :(

A heads up....In searching, some of the bookmark sleeves were the thin flimsy ziploc bag type material rather than the sturdier vinyl.

I'm cheap/frugal whatever too but I would like to find something cheap that could be re-used for more than 1 cruise... I do like the bookmark holder idea if I can find them for a reasonable price (shipped to Canada usually adds on way too much + duty/taxes) but what I would really like to find is clear harder / rigid plastic holders that would fit the cruise tags like these:

http://tags.idcardgroup.com/productdetails.aspx?item=1840-620

the search shall continue! Most likely i'll end up using the packing tape/zip tie plan :D

Will you be flying in the day OF the cruise or a day ahead? If you are flying a day ahead, you can have them delivered to you at the hotel where you will be staying.

Never even thought of that... we'll be there 2 or 3 days before... but it is Hawaii so who knows what the shipping restrictions for there will be! I'll have to investigate that one... luckily I have 6 months to figure it out :)

Suggestions I have for tags. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1354679277.201263.jpg.bf66a80cee26cc3195b6f0c0a71ecf6f.jpg

This is a zip bag that is available at Walmart. It is used to package 20 eye glass wipes. Look in the eye center. $2

$3 Walmart with the travel soaps and things. The wording scraps off with a butter knife.

So while packing my Lunch for work today I had a brilliant idea... ;). For one time use luggage tags rather than wrestle with packing tape etc... A zip tie and a y9a8ana6.jpg
