dmwnc1959 Posted December 25, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 25, 2012 I won't be doing an actual review (lots of those already) or a blow-by-blow of the cruise (my story would be plenty boring, trust me) but thought you might enjoy seeing some of the pictures I took during the week I was on Allure of the Seas. I have already completed a pictorial review of the second half of this B2B which was on the RUBY PRINCESS from Dec. 9-16, 2012 so if you want to check those out in the mean time between Allure picture sets that would be nice. This first set primarily deals with the cruise ships and sights I saw during the 2-day pre-cruise that I spent in Fort Lauderdale. There were eight ships in port on Dec. 1st and that was actually kind of neat seeing so many. Got lots of ship pictures. Hope you enjoy them. dmwnc1959 Posted December 25, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted December 25, 2012 Sitting up early on Christmas morning waiting for the Grandkids to wake up. Looked at your photos. Very nice. Thanks. Great start to Christmas. On Freedom for New Years. Can't wait. Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and your family! Lots more pictures to come as it will take a little time to sort through the near 3500 pictures I took during the week and whittle them down to manageable albums that won't bore people to death. I'll try and post a new set each night to give early birds something to do while having their favorite morning beverage. ;) Great shots. How large of a telephoto did you use from the bridge to get the close up of the ships? The camera I have is a Olympus SP-815UZ and I bought it off of a TV shopping network. Decent camera with a 36x optical zoom lens. I used the full zoom on occasion and the pictures came out nice as long as I was holding it steady. It has a really great image stabilizer as well that came in handy.

caneguy Posted December 25, 2012 #7 Share Posted December 25, 2012 Thanks, I did a search for that model and it got great reviews. I am looking for a compact camera with a good zoom and based on your pics and the review I found it. Thanks for the great pics. Some people are pretty finicky about their cameras. I've only had this one for few months and am very happy with it. If you haven't already, check out the Ruby Princess pictures I linked in the first post to give you an idea of some of it's capabilities. :D
dmwnc1959 Posted December 25, 2012 Author #9 Share Posted December 25, 2012 Here's a bonus MERRY CHRISTMAS set of pictures...:D About eight months before I booked this cruise I would have never considered sailing on this class of ship, and loathed the idea of costumed animation movie characters running our my cruise. Gradually the 'kid' in me warmed up to the idea and by time I was planning every single detail of the cruise I couldn't wait to have my picture taken with them!!! These pictures are from the Move It! Move It! Parade which was held on the first Sea Day. It was a lot of fun to watch and the vantage point I had (at the front end of the photo gallery just past the top of the spiral stairs that lead up from the Casino/RP) was excellent. When the parade was over (it lasted for about 15 minutes) was one of the few times the ship felt really crowded. The pictures don't have commentary and are self explanatory. Enjoy... dmwnc1959 Posted December 26, 2012 Author #12 Share Posted December 26, 2012 Here are two quickie videos from the Move It! Move It! Parade, the first is just 30 seconds or so and the other about a minute and a half. I was busy snapping pictures but also wanted to get at least some video of the parade...:D
dmwnc1959 Posted December 26, 2012 Author #13 Share Posted December 26, 2012 The first half of this next set of pictures shows the Haitian coastline as we approached Labadee and the ship maneuvering to dock. I didn't go ashore any further than the end of the pier, and when I did I ran across an onslaught of people returning due to a rain storm, so the pictures I took of the resort area were what I could capture from the ship. I didn't put any commentary on the coastline pictures because the natural beauty didn't really need me to describe it. dmwnc1959 Posted December 26, 2012 Author #14 Share Posted December 26, 2012 These two videos are pretty short, the first one about 2-1/2 minutes and the other about 1-1/4 minute long, and were shot early one morning before the masses awoke as not to be a bother. Pretty simple idea: ride from Deck 2 to Deck 17 and back down completely uninterrupted so that you could get a feel for just how big this ship is. I still enjoy watching these even now. Hope you enjoy them too.

dmwnc1959 Posted December 27, 2012 Author #16 Share Posted December 27, 2012 More pictures! :D This set shows our approach to Falmouth, the Carnival Breeze, the port complex of shops, and some of downtown as I walked around and enjoyed the sights. dmwnc1959 Posted December 27, 2012 Author #17 Share Posted December 27, 2012 The Royal Promenade is one of the most amazing spaces on a ship I have ever seen. Almost twice as wide as the ones on the previous class of ships this enormous indoor space is your very first introduction to Allure of the Seas upon embarkation. This album attempts to capture just how incredible this expansive stretch of the ship is. Allure of the Seas Part 2 - Royal Promenade:

dmwnc1959 Posted December 27, 2012 Author #22 Share Posted December 27, 2012 David, thanks for taking the time to post your photos. I will start going through them tonight. :) Your welcome, of course. I took way too many pictures, think I was a bit excited? All in all between the Allure and Ruby I think I took over 4700 pictures with my camera and iPhone so whittling them down to manageable albums is a hard task. It took me 10 hours between last night and this morning to go through and post the pictures and videos of the Royal Promenade. I think my thread is starting to bore people to death! ;)

I am looking for a compact camera with a good zoom and based on your pics and the review I found it. Thanks for the great pics. You have an eye for photography P.S. you'll want to order a couple of extra batteries for this camera. The one it comes with is a very good long lasting one but if you shoot pictures like I did you'll want one extra in standby and another charging back in the room just in case. I'll dig up the website that I ordered them from and post it later. They're inexpensive ($9 each I think) and shipped/arrived pretty quickly. .
