Really NCL???

Hmm... I seem to have forgotten the zealotry factor on these boards. Say anything that might somehow cast said cruiseline in a less than favorable light, and it's like chum to the sharks.

Sounds like you made a mistake. Nothing wrong with that, right? I just wouldn't try to blame someone else for it...there are too many people who know better.

I didn't "make a mistake". I was fully aware that I was submitting my information. I was setting up a profile. After all, I might have very well gotten to the end and decided to do it.

And a phone call is not the end of the world (although in my estimation, sales calls like that are a colossal waste of time). But the call and four emails the day after? Kinda looks a bit desperate, no?

All I'm saying as that it still never ceases to amaze me that sales departments react like undisciplined puppies that just encountered a milk bone every time they see a new contact.

How did you like the Allure of the Seas? I was going back and forth between that and the Getaway. I ended up booking the Getaway because the itinerary for the Allure didn't appeal to me. My daughter really wants to try that ship though.

It seems as though you have now made an additional mistake.

You don't set up a profile on NCL's site. No registration is required. People who already are registered are registered because they are past guests. The only time a new person would have to fill out that info was to actually book...it isn't for use in creating a "profile".

You originally claimed to be looking for detailed pricing information. That information is available on the screen BEFORE you fill out your personal information....the screen where you select your cabin. On the right side of that screen, they show the total price for the selected cabin. If you click on the price, a window opens to show you the complete pricing breakdown.

Obviously, you didn't know what you were doing and received an unexpected result. It is also obvious that most people here are totally aware of what happend, why it happened, and what you should have done to avoid it.

Perhaps in the future you will no longer be "amazed" when people call and email you after you give them your phone number and email address.

Of course, you could also keep right on blaming the people whose job it is to contact people and attempt to sell product...that whould help keep things "amazing".

I moderate a debate forum on a parenting website and have seen all sorts of insulting posts. Just picture lots of women, most with young children, on a forum where the sole purpose is to argue about controversial topics. The comments on this thread would not even get a second glance, let alone be considered chum for sharks.

BTW I took the whole first day on the internet comment as tongue in cheek.

I filled out the info on several major cruise line sites while doing research. RCL sent me a lovely brochure. Disney sent me a DVD. Carnival sent nothing. NCL had my PCC call me. And call me again. And again, until all my questions were answered and I booked. Then I never heard from her again, LOL.

There are threads like this in all of the cruise lines forums. They all do it. The advice is not to sign in when browsing.

That's exactly what I was going to say. They all do it but, heck, they are in the business of selling cruises so who can truly blame them for doing exactly that.

I learned the lesson long ago to never give any site, cruiseline or not, any of my personal info if I don't want any type of follow-up on their end.

OP, sorry you were so off put but perhaps use this as a learning experience.

Good luck in your search too!

On a different note... about two years ago, I accumulated points with a certain Las Vegas Casino. They have my personal information and they mailed me an offer for a free flight and hotel room in Vegas. I was impressed and jumped on the offer.
Now, after doing a few, I get to pick from steady stream of offers for free flights and vacations from several gaming corps.
Now, if only, I wouldn't mind taking a call, if the cruise lines picked up on this type of competition, with choices of free or deep discounted offers.
Does this ever happen?
So, I've never cruised NCL. Yesterday, I was checking out the website, and looking at cruise options. Somewhere along the way, I entered my name, email address and phone number. While browsing through the site, numerous times, I was greeted with a pop-up to the effects of "Do you want to live chat or speak with someone?????" Um, no.... If I wanted to talk to someone I would've called, but thanks anyway.

Sure enough, first thing this morning, my phone rings with a Florida exchange. I answer it and get "Good morning sir! I'm Nancy, your personal cruise consultant with NCL. I saw you were reviewing our website yesterday...."

"I'm sorry Nancy, but I was looking on the website, because I didn't want to talk to a sales associate. I'm not interested, but thank you. Please don't call again". And I hung up.

Ten minutes later, I check my email. FOUR emails from "Nancy": One saying how nice it was to talk to me (LOL!), one "introducing" herself to me, one with specials meant "just for me", and one asking me to facebook friend her.

So, one visit to their website resulted in three "talk to me!" pop ups, an unsolicited phone call, and four emails....

Serioulsy NCL, way to look desperate....
I'm with you, Macruisefan. A phone call or an email, one or the other.... but NCL called me 6 times. Six.
When I asked the man not to call again, he started emailing. After the 8th email, I emailed him back and told him that I wasn't booking anything til 2015. I haven't heard from him since. There's a difference between marketing and harassment.

I hear you. Unfortunately some salespeople are zealous when laid-back would be more appropriate.

You can usually discern a good sales rep by their ability to let the prospect 'move the needle', prodding only occasionally.... but some people feel the need to impose themselves on a prospect.

It's not NCL that's desperate. As you can see from their SEC filling pre-IPO they have 102 - 104% occupancy on average.

It's a single representative who went a little overboard (pardon the pun).

Just ask for a new PCC, and you're all set.

If you gave them your address, be prepared for the mailings! :p

Heck, you might score a great deal with Norwegian. I have often made great deals while talking to the cruise consultant.

Don't be too upset, they offer great cruises and you might very well find yourself sailing with them when you review their offerings. :D

First of all, I'm not upset.

Second, they can MAIL me whatever they like.

Third, I'm not really bothered by the emails. But four emails less than 24 hours after I was on the site stinks of desperation.

Fourth, I'm not "bothered" by any of this. Just intrigued that the baseline response to a new inquiry is basically on par with that a stripper has to a new gentleman entering the "club".

Lastly, I did not enter any information unknowingly. I am fine with NCL having my contact information. I would just assume they use it in a fashion that doesn't lead me to compare them to a desperate street vendor....

i want to apologize for my attempt at humor. I do not like it when others on the forum try to belittle and poke fun at my posts. This forum is supposed to be a place for helpful information and dialogue. Ridicule of others posts is not helpful to anyone.

Can we all just get along:)

You are right with your assessment of old sales tactics. I can tell you first hand that they indeed do not work. As such, I am no longer in a sales environment as I was embarassed to conduct business in such a manner. Our sales manager would make us call prospects all the way until 9:00 p.m. each evening. Most people do not appreciate calls at that time. I would tell him that making a prospect mad is no good for business. His response was to keep calling and bugging them. I totally agree with you that if I want to purchase anything, I will contact the company directly. :D
