The definitive Cheers program Thread

I keep seeing people say that you do not have to pay for the last day of your cruise (disembarking day.) That makes sense, but I don't see it written in the rules from Carnival. I'm thinking of buying the package on the second day of our 8 day cruise, but not if I have to pay for the day we leave the ship. Where are people seeing that in writing? If this is indeed correct, the price would be $345 (including the 15% tip) if purchased on the second day?

Does anyone know if it works on Balmoral beach since that is a Carnival exclusive beach and we are able to use our S&S card there? The Deluxe Balmoral beach excursion will be fantastic if we can use the cheers program there!

If you are on a 8 day cruise and you buy it on day two, you will be charged 7 days or 402.00 per person including tip.. you do not pay for the day you leave... If you are on a 8 day cruise say sun-monday... you buy it on Monday the second day..so, its Monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday and sunday.. 7 days... you leave on monday

Just back from the Liberty & we purchased the Cheers! program for both my DH & myself. We are not big drinkers, & do not drink to get drunk. Here are some observations:

1. Bought the Cheers! package as soon as we stepped onto the ship - they were selling it at tables as you entered deck 3. My understanding was that the "days" are actually calculated (for your drink count) as all drinks up until 6 am the next day. That said, you do not get charged for your last "day" as the bars are not open during disembarkation. So we were Fri - Sat cruise - 8 nights.

2. The receipts print out the cost of the drink, subtract it to $0, then have a blank for adding a tip (which would be additional to what you already paid), & a blank total line. I verified with my bartender on my first drink that I indeed already paid the gratuity & that the blank was "extra". I told my DH to make sure he zeroed that out, as well as the total line, each & every time drinks were ordered. NOTE: you WILL have tax applied to drinks bought while still in port. So your total could show $.47 & you would have to bring that down after zeroing out the additional tip. Make sense?

3. Cordials being sold in the dining room each evening (with cool souvenir shot glasses) are not covered under Cheers! but are eligible for the discount. :)

4. I usually ordered from Red Frog Rum bar, my DH from Blue Iguana Tequila bar, & we soon realized that he can drink more than me & that his favorite (Patron) was just under $10 & covered under Cheers! Soooo instead of me trying to drink 7 daiquiris to make MY costs work out ($7.95 each) I figured that between the BOTH of us, we needed to drink at the most 13 drinks (if they were all $7.95). However, when I started drinking the Beachcomber & Rum Jumpers ($8.95 each) & my DH discovered Patron, well we only needed 10 drinks between us to break even! REALLY easy to do!

5. The discount was good for the Carnival carrier with the large water bottle when we got to Aruba - ended up being about $10!

6. HYDRATE!!!!! I figured out that I could have 2 drinks before lunch, eat later lunch & ONLY have water with my food, enjoy 2-3 drinks, 4 if I was drinking daiquiris, before dinner, only water with dinner, then a 2-3 more drinks before turning in for the night. NEVER had a headache, but I did only drink rum drinks the whole time. Although one evening we did open the champagne in our room & had some, followed by a bit of peppermint oil on my neck to counter the headache - worked like a charm! ;)

7. Sail & Sign printout does NOT list your drink prices so if you want to keep track of your "expenses", keep your receipts. Like I said before, knowing the least expensive drink was $7.95, I could kinda figure out how we made out. Bottom line, we drank WAY more than $800 worth of alcohol (8 day cruise)! :D

**We will definitely be buying the Cheers! program on our next cruise!

Has anyone been successful at purchasing this without having to purchase it for another adult over 21 in the same cabin? Do they check to see who is booked with you when you purchase it?

No one has been able to get around it. They do not make any exceptions on this program, not for pregnant women, people with health issues that cannot drink, religious reasons, etc. They are very strict on this rule, they will know if anyone else in the room is 21, and you will be charged accordingly.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have read every page of this thread and am pretty sure this has not been asked: Is someone in the Cheers program allowed to share their 25% off discounted bottle of wine with a passenger who did not purchase the Cheers package?

Is the only criteria for being able to purchase a single Cheers package being the only adult in a stateroom? What if you are in connecting staterooms with one adult and one child in each? Would they make both parents buy the package?

I saw in previous post that some casino managers will not honor five dollar match play receipts for Classic Cocktails purchased in the Cheers program. Anyone with any experience recently on the Magic?

Hello everybody! Friends are joining us on our cruise for the first time in September and we're seriously looking at this program. However, her husband is 100% a beer drinker and we are not... so I have no idea how much beer costs. Can anyone help me out with a typical charge for beer on CCL? We're trying to do a little cost analysis for them. Thanks for any help :)

Since Cheers is $49.95/day, this should assist:

Sample 1

5 - Martinis

($8.95/per)

= $51.50 with gratuity

Sample 2

7 - Top Shelf Vodka Drinks

($7.50/per)

= $53.63 with gratuity

Sample 3

8 - Domestic Beers

($5.75/per)

= $52.96 with gratuity

Sample 4

4 - Domestic Beers

3 - Sodas

2 - Drinks of the Day

= $50.43 with gratuity

Looks like they added the 3 day ships:

What is the "Cheers Beverage Program"?

CHEERS! Beverage Program

Under the CHEERS! Beverage Program, guests can enjoy a wide variety of wine, beer and spirits (including cocktails and frozen drinks), along with sodas and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails throughout the voyage at one convenient, flat rate. On 4-day and longer cruises, the cost for this program is $49.95 per person, per day, plus a 15% gratuity added on at the time of purchase of the program; on 3-day cruises, the cost for this program is $69.95 per person, per day, plus a 15% gratuity added.

This program can only be purchased on board; it is not available for purchase online or via telephone order. Guests can sign up for CHEERS! at the Atrium Bar, Casino Bar or the bar at the main pool area.

Here are the program details about our beverage program- CHEERS!

With the purchase of this program, you will enjoy the ease and convenience of paying one flat price for your spirited beverages (yep, that’s with alcohol) all cruise long! At only $49.95 per person ($69.95 on 3 days cruises), per day, plus a 15% gratuity, this program is an amazing value! Simply use your newly-stickered Sail & Sign Card and you’re ready to enjoy!

Yes, I can confirm they had this program on the Inspiration 4 dayer out of Los Angeles. It's strange, they didn't push it, and barely advertised it. I saw it on the program real small on the bottom of it. We didn't do it because as it says $49 per day per person. Maybe next time.

Yes, you can share. You will not be expected to down it yourself.

Only one would have to purchase it. Whether the staterooms connect or not is irrelevant.

Sorry for the late response but I see your questions were answered correctly. I cruise solo often and only pay the one price. My 23 year old daughter had her own cabin (even though it was booked with my VIFP number) and she was not required to buy Cheers.

As for the wine sharing... Every night I would buy wine for the table and was able to share it with whomever I wanted. Actually, even at 35% off retail, Carnival is STILL making a killing on their bottle prices.

On the Pride we had Cheers and the "cage" at the casino accepted our classic cocktails receipts for match play. You have to sometimes ask the bar tenders for duplicate receipts for the classic cocktails. They don't always give them to you. I was able to give my receipts for match play to hubby to turn in no questions asked.

Gratuity is separate from the 49.95. It's like 57.50/day with gratuity. So all of those examples are under...but not by much.

I didn't read through all 61 pages so forgive me if this was brought up but did the drinks being included on HMC change recently? I cruised in January and the cheers program did not apply to HMC then.

Cheers included HMC when the program was in 'Beta' test but was discontinued on the island. There is no plan to re-include HMC (or Little Stirrup Cay either).

Yeah. My wife and I just got off of the Conquest. She's pregnant and they had no issue making an exception and selling me Cheers for one. We asked at guest services on the first afternoon, they called down the ship's bar manager, and he rang me up on the spot. I asked about getting the soda package for her and he told me not to worry about it since my Cheers purchase included free unlimited soda on my card.

The bartenders throughout the ship were awesome about it. They never once charged her for soda, and about half the time the bartenders refused her card for virgin margaritas and such and rang them up under my cheers card also.

If I am sailing with my boyfriend, and want to pay for his Cheers package, will they let me pay for both on my sail and sign card? Or am I just better off buying him cruise cash to cover it? I'm not anticipating us using the same credit card for our sail and signs is why I ask.
