Oasis is driving me crazy

Recommended Posts

Ever since I finally decided to book Oasis, I find myself constantly looking at pictures, reviews, and dining options. I'm on the boards more than I ever have been before. I don't know how I'm going to wait another 8 months! I just booked Allure for 2014 too. :o

For being adamant that I didn't want to sail on Oasis for the first few years she was available, I sure have done a complete 180. What a long 254 days this is going to be!

I completely understand. I never thought I would want or need to go on Oasis/Allure, but last summer the opportunity came up and we went on Allure. LOVED it! We now have Alllure booked for this summer and I hope to do one or both of the TAs on Oasis this fall:D

I was the same way before we went on Oasis last August. We had wanted to go on Oasis since we first heard about he build, just never though we would be able to. When we finally booked the cruise, I couldn't get enough information. I was on the CC boards all the time. One thing I will say, even though I had read everything I could find and had seen tons of photos, when we stepped on the ship for the first time, I was still beyond overwhelmed. You will love it! You reseach will pay off because you will be able to find your way around a lot easier after having read all the info. Happy sailing in 8 months!

As I replied on another thread, it seems more and more are coming to the dark side :p

I think the concerns of too big, too crowded have been largely put to rest over the last 3 years. Person after person reports they are designed in a way that minimizes the impact of the amount of passengers. Some try and still don't like because they dont like a cruise with " too much to do". Or others aren't happy with the lack of interesting port opportunities. But the original fear mongering has gone away!

As for the obsession- well, it's all normal- there is so much to do on these ships, so many unique spaces and venues that you are required to do your research:p That's one of the things some don't like about this class- bit I think you will find they add another " dimension" to your cruising experience- they are like nothing else in the fleet, and for us it was fun to shake it up a bit, even of I still cruise the other ships too!

Happy cruising and enjoy your " planning time"... It will go faster than you think!:D

When she was first announced and we sailed on Princess regularly I swore I would not wanted to be in the same port as her.

We had to cancel a Princess cruise in February a few years ago, as our young daughter needing a GI tube put in. We had cancellation insurance money to use, so we put it towards another cruise. What ships sail in July in the Caribbean... Some older ones or Oasis and Allure.

Well we sailed on the Oasis, and I am glad we were never in port on another ship as we would be jealous. She is spectacular and exactly what we needed for a vacation, as we had been run down by taking care of our sick daughter at home 24, 7. As a couple we could not have had a better break, physically and mentally.

I swore I would never step foot on a ship that large, and if you look at our cruise list below you would have a hard time getting me on another ship now. Oh, I would, but giving up all the amenities that the twins have to offer would be hard.

If you love them half as much as us, you should have the vacation of a lifetime. Now, let your countdown begin, and I really hope you enjoy them both.:)

I second the OP's sentiment. We're booked on the Oasis and I've been doing so much research and planning as well.

One of my problems when cruising is dealing with the "fear of missing out". On Oasis, there's even more to do than on any other ship, I'm wondering how we'll get to it all. I think I'm going to have to deal with this issue in the next couple months and just relax and learn to enjoy whatever I get to do on the fantastic boat!

I've spent a week on the Oasis and a week on the Allure. I've done about half of all the things I thought I would.

On the third Oasis ship, it's going to be friggin B2B!! ;)

We were on the Oasis two years ago. We did not get to do and see everything we wanted to. Can you imagine - I didn't step foot on the Rising Tide Bar, or go to the Jazz on 4 or Dazzles. We solved that problem. DH and I are doing a B2B on the Allure this coming July. I hope to see and do everything on my list in two weeks.

As others have said, go in with the assumption you will NOT be able to do everything. We normally do not repeat ships, at least not consecutively, but are going back on Allure again this year to hit the things we missed last time. Since we saw most of the shows last time skipping some this time around to be able to hit other highlights.

Relax, the ship will be there for you to go back to. Take your time and enjoy the stuff you do get to!

understand completely. I missed lunch in the MDR, comedy shows, Blazes, rising Tides Bar, Jazz on 4 and riding the carousel.

Spent a lot of time on the pool deck during the day since it was so nice and I knew when I got back home I would be facing winter again

"Luke, I am your cruise ship."

LOL! It's better now, but for the first couple of years you'd have thought they were the devil incarnate:rolleyes: There were literally virtual clubs to join stating you'd never sail them;) I think the biggest part of the problem for many of those people was really the price, not the size:rolleyes:

This is the downside of these ships- you will not feel like you've conquered it all after a cruise, but I also found that I didn't get " bored" as I have on some other ships, so you have to know what you like about cruising and know if this would be for you. What we did was look over all the reviews and options and then prioritize- what made cruising fun for us? Once we had that idea, then we planned the things we wanted and skipped the rest ( for us that meant we spent time in the Solarium, exploring unique venues, like Central Park and Boardwalk, doing the activities, like flow rider and zip line and skipping the trivia contests, casino, bingo or on board shopping.)

Last trip we skipped all character and kids stuff, since we were 4 adults. On this Alllure trip we will be with our ( albeit big;)) kids so we will do a character breakfast, maybe check out a parade.

Interestingly, with Oasis and Allure reviews, I can start reading one and know that it might not have any value to me for planning since the person reviewing is into stuff I'm not, unlike other ships, where the review is mostly the same for every person who sails, with minor differences.

OP: We felt exactly as you. We go on vacation to get away and relax, and the idea of sharing a confined space with so many people just didn't seem appealing.

Frankly, I have no idea when the tide turned. We initially thought we would go on Freedom, since we haven't even been on a ship that big. But then hubby spent some time on the internet looking at deck plans and found what he thinks will be an awesome aft deck cabin -- so next thing I know, I'm calling the TA to transfer us from Freedom to Oasis!

I've never had to do so much "planning" for a cruise in my life! We've never pre-booked shows or specialty restaurants. In the past, we just decided once on board what to do. Not this time around. In fact, we're opting for My Time Dining for the first time -- simply because the choices for dinner seem so overwhelming!

The good thing: Since Oasis and Allure are the newest ships, there's lots to find on this board about them!

Enjoy your cruise!

Ann

I know how you feel, and I'm glad to read your post. We leave on the April 20TH sailing of Oasis, and I have been on CC constantly! My concern(That my DH pointed out) is that I've read and researched so much, that I will not have any surprises and it won't be as exciting for me. I sure hope that is not the case!! I'm so excited about this cruise:)
