imae39 Posted April 9, 2013 #77 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Selma - sure enjoyed reading your posting. I have made banket but my pastry dough does not have spices in it. Just butter, flour and water. I buy almond paste in cans. Make the dough and filling night before and then roll out dough and fill and roll up. My daughter makes a recipe for eight sticks and freezes them. I'm assuming you are Dutch as we are.

legalslave Posted April 11, 2013 #79 Share Posted April 11, 2013 Oh my, I love most everything! Here goes in no particular order: Escagot Raisin buns in Lido Lamb (I order it everytime they have it) All of the seafood appetizers Quite a few of the offerings at the Asian station in Lido Crepes in the Lido In the MDR I always order a seafood entree unless they have lamb. Have eaten twice for dinner in Pinnacle and it was not for me. Even when in an SA, still had breakfast in Lido as we like the variety. Hope to one day be on a ship that has Tamarind as I am sure I would love it. Diane
496and706 Posted April 11, 2013 #80 Share Posted April 11, 2013 I had the liver and onions on our last cruise. Perfect. Brie in puff pastry. Raisin buns. Most of the lamb dishes. Weiner Schnitzel. Perfectly made. Anything braised. Sticky buns at Dutch station for breakfast. Tea time in the MDR has scones with whipped cream and strawberry jam. They had pea soup during the TA crossing. Dh said it was good. Dh also loved the escargots. Cheese plate on dessert menu. (Every night) BBQs on aft deck during sailaways. Rice pudding that has pineapple, coconut and raisins. Surprisingly, neither one of us gains weight on a cruise. :D:D

cpcanuck Posted April 14, 2013 #82 Share Posted April 14, 2013 I'm positively drooling with all these possibilities to look foward to! Okay...really odd question...can you get potato chips on the ship? Or should I plan to make those kinds of purchases in port? I have to confess I have a weak spot for salty crunchy things...:o
RuthC Posted April 14, 2013 #83 Share Posted April 14, 2013 Okay...really odd question...can you get potato chips on the ship? Sandwich bar in the Lido. :D However, do know that sometimes they run out during the course of a cruise, and substitute some other kind of chip, the type of which escapes me at the moment. I think a lot of folks have a weak spot for salty crunchy things! ;) Even the world cruisers mention stocking up on snacks while in port. :D Edited April 14, 2013 by localady

tillys mom Posted April 14, 2013 #88 Share Posted April 14, 2013 We are looking forward to our first HAL cruise since 1997, and I'm trying to remember if it was Holland that had the baked Alaska parade on formal night. Do they still do it? I want to make sure our 2 grandkids get to see it if it is still done.

travelingla Posted April 15, 2013 #91 Share Posted April 15, 2013 Was on the Volendam in 2006 and had my first taste of muesli - it was TO DIE FOR! :) I am sure it was heavy whipping cream! After reading these posts, I just wonder if there is anything NOT to get? Other than perhaps the cakes I've not read much that folks do not like! Stretch wasteband pants only!!!! :D
vjh Posted April 15, 2013 #92 Share Posted April 15, 2013 I had liver and onions on the 30 day South Pacific cruise last October and just hoping they will have it again on our 21 day collector's Panama Cruise this October.

We also didn't think the hamburger in the Terrace Grill was anything to write home about. Obviously YMMV!

Krazy Kruizers Posted April 17, 2013 #99 Share Posted April 17, 2013 DH was looking forward to escargots on the last formal night of our cruise. On the menu it was listed as "Escargots Bourguignonne" but when they arrived at the table -- they were in a cheese sauce. He was disappointed.
