Children sitting at the bar

Again the lido bar is in an open public space. So should kids be banned from lido after midnight? My nieces and nephew have no bedtime while on vacation so I could see other kids on lido deck a public space after midnight. Now I could understand your point if it was one of the lounges but not a bar out in open in a very public part of the ship.

I think part of the issue was that the kids were running and screaming.

The OP didn't want kids sitting.... Others think that kids shouldn't sit if others are standing.

Is there an adult only bars like there are adult only pools? Maybe that would solve the problem?

"Adult" language is never appropriate in a mixed crowd that has either women or children and the majority of adult men. I was always taught never to swear in front of a women!

Have you heard how a lot of women speak today? Many times they are worse than men.

Cruise or not..bar or no bar.. no child should ever be sitting while an adult stands. There are very few perks to getting old but that is one of them.

Well as long as I am paying for my child's fare and Carnival does not have a rule that says my DD can't be at the bar - and we get there before you; you will be standing. You don't have more rights them we do just because you are over 18.

If was want to sit and enjoy a drink (her a mocktail) and we paid our money for that drink then we will sit where ever we want.

I have to disagree! Even on Disney Cruises they will not allow kids in the bar areas...just like they don't allow adults in the kid zones.. Not that I would ever want to hang out in there ;)

On Disney, soda is included and is everywhere. No need to go to a bar.

Again I doubt anyone is talking about noon or even 4pm... BUT having a kid sit at bar stool later in the evening is just not right. And for ordering, go get the "mocktail" for them.... stop what you are doing and interact with YOUR kid, rather than make the other adults "interact" with the kid.

Finally, A coke "gun" should be somewhere else than the bar... I completely agree with that!

Well being the OP specifically mentioned the atrium and lido locations, it could very well be noon or 4 PM.

But at no point would I expect anyone move for me. Nor wor I make it an issue. When I want to sit, there's usually more than ample chairs.

I see your point and I get it I really do, I guess I just don't want my little ones exposed to some of the things that were happening around us. The world is bad enough that they don't need to be exposed to sex and the F bomb and many other things I observed then again it wasn't my kids so who am I to judge.

Why would any adult be out at the Lido bar dropping F bombs and getting sexy? You are on a cruise ship and Lido is the most acceptable place you will find families. I don't care if you are bellied up to the bar or hanging out a few feet away, there is a time and place where you can act appropriately. We have dinner club parties at my house every month. There is a lot of drinking in the kitchen and a lot of kids in the living room on X Box or hanging out doing other stuff. It's not hard to contain the swearing and we aren't having sex on the kitchen table.

Now if you are talking about the piano bar in the evening or some other lounge area, fine. But to think kids aren't welcome on Lido because you may get inappropriate basically says that you have a lack of responsibility to begin with.

I paid just as much for my child to be on a cruise as you paid to go on it. If my child is sitting enjoying a drink in an area where he/she is allowed and you come along later and there is no seat left, I do not expect them to get up and move for you just because you are an adult. You are not entitled to something just because you are over 18. Wait your turn for an empty seat or find another bar to sit your bottom down at (its not like there aren't a ton of them on a ship). IMHO it is first come, first serve in public areas where kids are allowed...kids or no kids.

Neither do I, and will quickly request a cease and disist. Who really wants to know they don't have a command of their native language?

EVER???

So a 5 year should give up a seat for

a 40 year old????

Don't think so.... Depends on the kid,

depends on the adult.

The kid is a paid pax just like you..

What next - old people get to "cut"

kids for the ice cream and waterslide???

"I'm old and going to die before you,

get out my way!"

Get a grip!

Way I see it... you have HAD your time...

let the little ones have a life now.

JEEZ!

Women aren't children; we deserve equal adult treatment.

As for kids in bars, it seems like a really boring place to hang out for a kid. Or an adult, in fact. If I go up to a bar and there's no entertainment I'll be taking my drink on the hoof anyway. I don't think there should be rules against parents allowing their kids to sit at the bars for extended periods, but I will silently judge the parents for exposing their kids to unhealthy behavior.

ETA: If there *is* entertainment besides drinking for the sake of drinking, a bar stool might give a kid the best vantage point.

I completely agree with you.

One time we were listening at the karaoke bar (on Royal's Monarch) and we were very close to the host, so could hear people talking to him about the songs they wanted to sing. A guest chose a certain song and the host wouldn't allow her to sing the song because of the two little kids sitting at a table with their parents.

I don't think songs should be sensored just because parents bring their children into a bar. If they don't want their kids to hear certain words keep them out of the bar, and if they are there it must be because they don't care what they hear so there should be no sensoring.

I don't think kids belong in bars. Adults can't go to the kids' club and play with the toys can they? Nope, didn't think so. Kids shouldn't be allowed in bars either.

I thought karaoke was usually listed as "family" or "adult" karaoke in the schedules. This would seem to clear up the question as to whether dirty awful songs are allowed. If I was the host for adult karaoke and there were kids present, I would issue a verbal warning about the content then let the show go on.

I take my children to the bars on the ship with me like the atrium bar bar to listen to the music or the karokee but mostly before 8pm...my children buy the non alcholic drinks so those are about the same price as some beers...but when it's usually just like an adult party or something then I wouldn't...if my kids buying a 5 dollar drink they darn well have a spot to sit....but I wouldn't take them into like the casino bar or the liquid lounge on board....and if people were acting like adults I'd take them somewhere else kid friendly

I don't think swearing is what this person means. It is more like adult topics.

If the karoake bar was listed as an adult only venue at that time then the kids should have been asked to leave. If it was listed as family venue (kids like to listen to karoake too and ships accomodate for this) then the music should be sensored for a family activity. It doesn't matter if the venue is labeled a "bar" and has a bar in it or not if it is a family venue during certain times on a ship then kids are allowed and a family friendly atmosphere should be maintained...
