A few Grandeur questions

Recommended Posts

I'm sailing on the Grandeur to Bermuda in 12 days (I can't wait!). I just have a few questions about the ship.

1. Does the Grandeur have an observation area when you can see into the bridge? On a few other ships I've been on, there have been areas behind the bridge where you could watch through windows.

2. What kind of food does the park cafe serve? And, can you get it in "to-go" containers? I'm thinking that I want to take a picnic lunch into Bermuda to eat on the beach. (Yes, I know it's not allowed, but either is sneaking liquor on board, or reserving chairs by the pool.)

3. Can any recent cruisers tell me if there is a spot on board to leave your carry on luggage while you wait for your stateroom? A few NCL ships have an area set up in the casino.

4. Is there an outdoor bar by the pool or on the top deck? I can't tell by the deck plans.

5. Other than the WJ, what other options will be available for lunch on embarkation day?

THANKS! :-)

Can help with a few questions.

No peek-a-boo bridge on Grandeur. Only on Voyager class ships.

No checking of carry-on luggage on Royal ships, but you could always wait until 1pm to board and use your stateroom.

Yes, there is a pool bar.

Park Cafe should be open for lunch. Salads, roast beef sandwiches, paninis, etc.

2: Park Cafe is paninis, salads, soups and the Famous beef on Weck. there are no to go containers.

3: yes.. with you.

4: yes the is a pool bar by the main pool( not the solarium, which houses the park Cafe)

5: the PC should be open, at least I assume it will be as it was on EN and it was MUCH less crowded( then again we were literally the first on board that day so who knows how it was later on in the process)

No, I know it's not allowed. But I have a perfect picnic spot picked out, but there are no restaurants anywhere near it so I want to bring it with me. I'll try to hide it in my backpack, and if they take it, they take it. I'll figure something else out.

Taking food off a ship is not permitted because of the agricultural laws of the countries visited.

If you want to take snacks for a picnic you can bring prepackaged foods like chips, cookies and cheese/peanut butter crackers from home which you can take off the ship. Depending on the port most foods that are "factory" sealed are permitted. Fresh and unpackaged foods from the buffet pose a danger of importation of insect, diseases etc. into a given port.

We normally use RC's xfers but since the port in Baltimore is so close to the airport I was wondering if anyone had used taxis now that Grandeur is back in Baltimore.

What is the average cab price for 2 people with a BUNCH of luggage?

TheAirportShuttle dot com charges $43 one way for 2 passengers and $34 one way for 1 passenger from BWI to the Port of Baltimore luggage included. You can find more information on transportation to Baltimore from BWI on the Ports of Call Forum. The Baltimore Port is very convenient and a short distance from BWI airport.

Yeah i know the port isn't far from the airport...I live about 10 minutes from the airport. It's about 20 minutes from the airport to the pier. I know I had to take a taxi once from the airport to my house, and that cost me $18 and trust me, I'm close....several miles at most. The airport shuttle sounds like a good deal.

pre packaged food in the original sealed container ONLY.. that means the little boxes of cereal from the Windjammer and the cracker packets.

love how you KNOW its not permitted and yet you think it is perfectly acceptable to disregard that anyway?

Must be nice to be so superior to everyone else that rules do not apply to you and you are okay with flaunting that disregard. Countries, especially island nations are VERY anal when it comes to introducing foreign materials. Fines can be prohibitively stiff. oh and you could also be kicked off the ship without refund.
