Booked on Azura A315n to the Fjords

just been told today we have been given a upgrade. We had a forward balcony on C deck so they are a bit bigger that's why we booked early we have now been 'Upgraded' to B deck midships balcony. If we had not wanted to choose our cabin then we would of booked a getaway fare.

Is it worth ringing up and complaining to see if we can be moved back or if they may give us some form of OBC or anything as compensation.

Also if not are the balconies on B deck very big was on 'Norwegian Breakaway' and the balcony there wasn't small enough to swing a cat!

thanks for any replies

It will be interesting to see your result. I had the opposite problem - I would have loved an upgrade to anything with a window for my inside cabin, but was left where I was.

We were registered for an automatic upgrade as well. Were you?

When you booked you should have been asked if you would take a free upgrade if available. If you were not asked then thats naughty.

Im guessing that your original cabin will have gine by now. The balconies on B deck are ok. Not huge, about 4 feet deep with two chairs and a small table.

Well off phone from customer services we are now back in our original cabin on C deck they have made sure we won't move again. I think if there had been a button opting out on the online booking form I would of ticked it but there isn't you have to phone up think this is why they changed us back. Will probably be last time I book so early though

Excellent news.

The depth of a standard balcony (cabin sliding door to rail) on Azura & Ventura (Lido, Riviera, A & B decks) is 1.5 metres. C deck balconies are 2.95 metres deep.

Thanks for all the replies just realised subject should of been VANTAGE not getaway whoops

I must admit that had me a tad confused. Well done getting put back. If you book vantage again you will remember to tick no upgrade.

Sunny but coolish for us up in the NE today.

Beware of this 'free upgrade' option A friend of mine is going on aurora in July and agreed when asked if he would accept a free upgrade. Who would not accept when offered ! Same thing has happened to him he was moved from his chosen aft cabin to a same cabin midship which is apparently more expensive to book so constitutes as an 'Up grade' he was furious as he especially chose aft and would only have moved if he was given a upgraded cabin ie a balcony instead of inside etc. p&o tried to insist that as he had said he would accept an upgrade that he had to accept it. He did not accept it and they have fortunately been able to put him back in his original cabin, but that might have not been the case had they already sold his cabin to someone else.

I have also been 'upgraded' from my aft cabin to mid ship on the Ventura. To be honest I probably would have preferred to stay where I was but everyone thinks their upgrade will be a jump from inside to balcony which is reality doesn't happen very often.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've just been given an upgrade from the Lido deck forward to A deck midship. I'm not happy as I chose the Lido deck for its excellent position and feel that I have been downgraded not upgraded. The cabin is the same just in a different location and not a location I wanted to be. They say my original cabin is not available. It's difficult cos I booked through an agent when I try to speak to P&O they say that TA have to contact them but then they tell TA there is nothing they can do.

I called P&O again and I now have to wait till next week a few days before we go to see if I can be changed back. I will be really cross if I can't but don't know where I stand would it be P&O or TA that should offer any type of compensation i.e. onboard credit?

Had I of been upgraded to a suite it might be different. Who says that deck A is better than the Lido???

Jules, I have been 'upgraded' to A deck also and I am concerned about the white spaces above my new cabin. Wonder if anyone knows what it is above.

When you booked you should have been asked if you wanted an upgrade by your TA. They have to tick a box to say you do not want an upgrade. If the box is not ticked you will be given an upgrade to a more expensive cabin. That is what you have mid ships cabins are always the most expensive. The fault lies with the TA as they should have asked the question.

Not sure which ship you are on but if it is Azura/Ventura where you have been moved to will be a more stable cabin in rough weather.

Which ship are you on?

we're on Ventura. No I wasn't asked by TA if we would accept an upgrade. She told me all the cabins that were available and when I saw one on the Lido deck I said yes i'd take that one as it seems like a great position. Without asking me she should have known that I was very happy with the cabin as I picked it over other cabins and decks. Just really cross. Got to wait now till next week just a few days before we go to see if we can get moved back.

Quite clear then the fault lies with your TA. P&O gave you the upgrade you indicsted by not ticking the box or rather your TA did not tick.

Just refuse it. They tried to up grade me from my chosen aft suite on Ventura to a smaller partially shaded on midships. I think not.

Seems that there is a lot of moving around of position but not heard of any true up grades like from balcony to deluxe balcony or inside to out.

I think you are correct, the only person I know of who says she gets a true upgrade is my SIL, but then again she also only ever pays half the price we do. Unless she is on the same cruise as us, it never happens then ! :p
