Taking spirits on board HAL

Sharrystar

Recommended Posts

We are going from Montreal to Boston on the Maasdam. Are we able to take spirits on board to drink in our cabin? We were able to with P&O but not with Cunard. Thanks

Wine, soda, water - no beer, no spirits

HAL permits you to order liquor in advance of boarding for consumption in your cabin. You can arrange for it to be delivered and in your cabin when you arrive. The prices are rather decent and this permits you to have cocktail in your cabin if you wish.

You also can wait until you board and buy a bottle from Room Service which will deliver it to you.

You need to read up on any questions you have about your cruise. You'll find most of your questions answered on HAL's website. The answer to you your question is NO. HAL does not allow beer or booze brought on board at embarcation or at any port of call. You can bring as much wine on board as you with. If you are already booked, go to your booking confirmation and follow the tabs from there or just go to the HAL website and click on 'booked cruises' or something to that effect. After you've entered your booking number you will be able to access the perks pages which include a section called "indulgences". There you will find the many booze items you can choose from for your in-room drinking. It's an extensive list although short on bourbon offerings and the prices are quite reasonable. Good luck and enjoy your cruise. Paul D St. Paul, MN

You are correct, it is short on bourbon offerings.

My DH only likes a few brands of bourbon and likes Jack Daniels but it is not on the list. I called ship's services and was able to order Jack Daniels for him, albeit at a much higher price than we pay at home ($56.35) for a litre bottle. But I am not complaining, at least he can have what he wants in the cabin, and he is not forced to drink Jim Beam, which he can't stand. There are plenty of other liquors to choose from though, so I am sure the majority of cruisers will find what they want. But it is nice to know that if you don't see it, call ship's services and they can most likely get it for you (1-800-541-1576).

You are allowed one bottle of wine each. The cruise lines are starting to toughen up on the rules as this can be lost revenue.

No other alcohol is permitted.

Since when only 1 bottle of wine each? I am pretty sure HAL does not limit the amount of wine you can bring on.

When did that one bottle thing start. In Feb. we still brought several on board the Eurodam. Nobody asked a thing.

COPIED JUST A MOMENT AGO FROM THE HAL FAQ's:

Except for wine and champagne, guests cannot bring hard alcohol on board for private consumption. Hard alcohol purchased on board in the duty free shops or in port will be collected, stored for safekeeping and delivered to your stateroom on the last day of the voyage.

Guests can bring as much wine and/or champagne as they choose on board at embarkation or purchased in port. A corkage fee of US$18.00 applies to wine and champagne brought to the shipboard restaurants or bars for consumption. Wine and/or champagne brought on board cannot be consumed in any public venue. If a guest is drinking a beverage carried on board and in a public venue they will be asked to return it to their stateroom.

Room Service offers reduced-price stateroom beverage packages for in-stateroom consumption of alcoholic beverages. A 15% Service Charge on all beverage items and packages with beverages will be added

That limit may happen someday, but it hasn't as of two weeks ago.

Where did you get this information? None of the rest of us have heard this.

I have heard nothing of a limit to amount of wine guests can bring aboard.

Thanks if you can clarify.

We never bring any but I am interested in any changes of rules.

This information is not correct. Ignore it.

You can take on as much wine as you like. If you want to drink it in the MDR then you pay $18 corkage. In you stateroom there are no such restrictions.

What a relief! :D

Although by the time I am able to take my next cruise the rules may have changed - I hope not :o

they have never stopped me for bringing liquor in my checked bags and sometimes they don't even have someone at reboarding to collect liquor bought in port. They treat you like adults and know that if you have a drink or 2 in your cabin you will also be frequenting their bars. Just don't make drinks in your cabin and then take them to the pool or elsewhere.

Is this true? Only one bottle of wine now?

Can anyone else confirm this?

No it's not true!..Hal's policy is very liberal..You can bring as much wine, bottled water & soda as you wish on board..But not hard liquor or beer..

We've seen people check in with cases of wine! If you take it to lounges /MDR Hal will charge you a corkage fee..

Cheers...Betty
