hypercafe Posted July 12, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2013 I read where Regent has ordered a new ship, do you think it will be based on the Marina class?
EZ99B5 Posted July 12, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 12, 2013 No, it will be smaller. 54,000 tons versus the 66,000 that the O class ships are.
Rare PaulMCO Posted July 12, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 12, 2013 A lot smaller especially in terms of passenger numbers (738 max). More details -- follow the CC News Link.... http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=5418
Hambagahle Posted July 12, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2013 And, because FDR will have a very large say in everything about it, it will be drop dead gorgeous!!!
Hawaiidan Posted July 12, 2013 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2013 I read where Regent has ordered a new ship, do you think it will be based on the Marina class? It will be a duplicate of their last ship... which is doing well Their best ship is the Mariner.... sailed many times on her.... huge cabins and just great
Rare Caroldoll Posted July 12, 2013 #6 Share Posted July 12, 2013 is right. FDR will leave his mark to be sure! I was a little surprised to see that the largest cabins are 1500 sq. ft. Anxious to see how many of those they have. They needed this ship.
Travelcat2 Posted July 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted July 12, 2013 It will be a duplicate of their last ship... which is doing well Their best ship is the Mariner.... sailed many times on her.... huge cabins and just great Just a slight correction..... Regent's last ship was the Voyager which has larger "regular" cabins than the Mariner. The Mariner has larger penthouse suites than the Voyager. Those of us who prefer the Voyager like to think that Radisson (before changing names to Regent) built the Mariner ..... and decided to make some positive changes to their next ship..... the Voyager:-) Both Regent loyalists and newbies are extremely excited about the announcement of the RSS Explorer. According to interviews and articles I've read in the past couple of days, it will combine the best of Regent ships as well as the best of the Marina and Riviera. The following is quote from FDR from a USA Today article: "This new ship order represents an exciting time of growth for our company as we build the next generation of cruise ships for the world's most inclusive luxury cruise line," Frank Del Rio, the chairman and CEO of Regent's parent company, says in a statement accompanying the announcement. "Seven Seas Explorer will be the most luxurious cruise ship ever built." It will be wonderful to see another addition to the Regent/Oceania family. I suspect the next ship..... no doubt for Oceania, will be even more luxurious than Explorer:D
hypercafe Posted July 12, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted July 12, 2013 I see your name is the patch from the Trathen. When were you on her, what was your rate/rank? The new ship sounds very nice, if it comes to the US I would love to go on her as I am only good for three hours in a plane.
ChatKat in Ca. Posted July 13, 2013 #9 Share Posted July 13, 2013 I was on the inaugural sailing season of the Regent - then Radisson - Mariner. It's still my favorite ship. The cabins are barely noticeable as smaller but the layout of the public space is much nicer for socializing than Voyager. I hope the new Explorer takes the best of all the PCH ships designs. The Promenade on the Mariner is my favorite spot with the coffee bar now. I like the R ships as well - especially the way Martini's flows into the casino. wripro Posted July 13, 2013 #10 Share Posted July 13, 2013 I expect the Explorer will be totally different in design from the Mariner and Voyager. Alot has happened in ship design in ten years.
