Royal Caribbean should look at the CC homepage poll

Didn't come off as sarcastic at all! And I'd agree with u! Some people (smokers and non-smokers alike) just aren't considerate. Just trying to give us considerate smokers a voice. Yeah we like to smoke on our balconies since its allowed, but if I know it's really bothering someone ill refrain.

Alternately, rather than wait for your neighbor to speak to you about the balcony smoking, perhaps (if you catch them on their balcony or in the hallway), ask them if they are bothered by smoke. Hopefully you will get a respectful and thoughtful response which lets you know where they stand and gives you some room to enjoy a smoke on your balcony on occasion. I think approaching them first would tend to avoid some uncomfortable confrontations (unless the non-smoker were somewhat militant on the subject then... oh well... you tried :().

Great idea, thanks!

It will happen. All documentation must be changed before it's implemented. This is why customer service reps are clueless. Their documents haven't been changed yet either. There is a lot involved that needs to be in place so there is no confusion among crew and others. They are aiming now for Sept 1 but it could continue to be pushed back.

From a high source on board today.

Sweet! Thanks for the update, Gina. If this holds true, I will reconsider my future Celebrity plans and RCI will be a clear front runner for me again.

But this really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Like it or not, this writing has been on the wall or a long time.

This new policy may have an extra benefit besides a smoke free environment. With all of the smokers that are threatening to quit cruising we non-smokers should be able to get some great pricing in the future when the cruise lines need to sell off all of those empty cabins.

Thanks for the update.......:)

I feel your disappointment, had it happen to us as well.

Hope we are good then for our Sept. 8 cruise!:D:D

Heading the other direction I haven't noticed smoke outside. Not even this morning pulling into port. Although it was bright and early so they may not have been up yet.

Coming from an officer on different ships I tend to believe it will happen. Implementing it is what could take a while. You know how things go when they start something new.

This is their first cruise using e-coupons and it hasn't been exactly smooth.and they originally announced e-coupons would begin in March. Then May, then summer. Well, it's still summer.

I am a non-smoker. And I support smokers in being allowed to smoke as they like.

Only problem is, when I inhale it, by being in the general vicinity of a smoker, it gets into MY lungs, the stink gets into MY clothes, it at times causes ME to cough and it triggers sinus/allergy issues.

So, I do take care to eliminate or reduce my exposure.

Now, if I were on a balcony, or if anyone were on a balcony, and you smell smoke, why not return the favor? Provide THEM with a smell... such as a prolonged fart or maybe several blasts of perfume?

Regards,

Knock yourself out. I haven't read anywhere where that is not allowed ... either. ;)

Almost half of cruisers have a problem with smoking balcony neighbors.

Wake up RCI! When I pay ten thousand dollars for a suite, I don't want smoke in my face during breakfast!

One time we had a guy smoking cigars and it blew right in on us during sail away.. ....my wife started coughing really loud and he didnt care. Thank goodness we only had one more issue on that cruise.... other than that, no major issues.

If you are down wind from a smoker how do you expect for get your various offensive odors onto his/her balcony? I can just see people boarding with their massive fans in tow and setting up their balconies for a full counter offensive....

I think they should make one side of the ship non-smoking and the other side smoking. Then let's see which side sells out faster!:)

The non-smoking side would fill up FAST.

Remember when you could smoke in a bar:mad: "They" said the bars couldn't make it without allowing smoking. Not sure of the current statistics, but many states don't allow smoking in ANY public building.

It will happen on cruise ships too (maybe after all the smokers die off from cancer and emphysema)

WOW! JUST WOW! SMH! Unbelievable some of the things people say!

I'm a non smoker and I have seen people who suffered from cancer (Smoker and Non'smoking cancer) and I wouldn't wish that pain and suffering on anybody!

If a no smoking policy on balconies is implemented by RCI, they should send out notification to people who have booked balcony rooms before final payment is due. They should start the policy 90 days from the date it is announced. There are some people who will want to cancel their cruise because of this policy. RCI has an obligation to provide what was promised when final payment was sent in and that includes smoking on the balcony.

I am a non-smoker and will still continue to cruise with RCI. I travel with a smoker who is D+. She has already stated she will cancel any future cruises with RCI if their smoking policy changes.

OMG i have read through this whole thread and several others on smoking in the past NEVER have i seen a comment like this

I am a smoker (well was/am down to 2 a day hoping for none by the end of the week)

BUT i lost two friends to cancer last year 3 months apart, one was 44 and one was 52..............they had never smoked (well the 52 yr old did about 2 weeks before he died he said he wanted to know what all the fuss was about)

my point is that this comment is callous tactless and plain nasty

I am hoping that Gina is right about the September 1 date for no smoking on balconies. We can smell it from balconies on other decks quite a few cabins away from us. I also hope (and this may have also been addressed) that the casionos become smoke free like on Celebrity. We might actually go to the casino more often if no smoking was the rule. I realize that on formal nights, it is supposed to be non smoking, but we have encountered smoking anyways on those nights. Plus the whole casino still stinks even when it is non smoking nights.

I'm pretty sure JF wasn't wishing that on anybody, either. But it is a reality that many long-time smokers end up suffering and/or dying from such ailments. I lost a family member last year to cancer, most likely related to his years of smoking, that started in his lungs and spread throughout his body.

I think people should talk more about such things, so that young people would not continue to take up the habit of smoking.

I didn't say I wish they would die...simply stated a fact.

99% of laryngeal cancer is in smokers.

80+% of cancer, bronchitis and emphysema

Non-smoker emphysema is hereditary and can't be "stopped"

If a non-smoker gets lung disease it is usually because they were or are surrounded by someone else's smoke.

Besides it is a very expensive habit. Think of all the cruises you could pay for if you stopped smoking

How should someone let you know? Please give me guidance as to how I should approach my neighbor regarding their smoke. I agree they ave a right to be out there to smoke. I also have a right to be out there without smoke. I have lung issues so as soon as they light up I have to go inside. We have had several Instances where our neighbors seem to live on the balcony smoking! how can I approach them about "sharing" the balconies so we can both have enjoyable time on the balcony.

I'm not so sure about the revenue issue. We would be more likely to pay the higher price for a suite if we were assured we could enjoy the comfy balcony without smoking neighbors.

Choose a different cruise line. That dosn't allow smoking

Note to Non-Smokers:

There are lots of ships and cruise lines that do not allow smoking on balconies.

Great - tell me which have zip line, FlowRider®, ice skate, rock climb, and mini golf -- you get the picture. I just want to enjoy a cruise, with great things to do and the great smell of the ocean.

It looks to me that 90 to 95% of the posts on this thread are American, the worlds greatest producers of greenhouse gases, drive the greatest amount of gas gussling cars and are responsible in my opinion for the greatest amount of pollution in the western world, as the cheek to complain about smoking on a balcony with a ship in open water travelling at 20 knots. Get your own house in order before trying to change the smoking policy on sailings out of Europe.
