I'm a new cruiser, the upcoming Summit will be the first one since the internet has been around & the reviews get me so excited!! We are actually flying 30 hours to get to Puerto Rico!!

I have come across a couple of Carnival reviews - if there are any that you recommend, please post away.

Looking forward to reading about your adventures!

Wow - 30 hour flight! That's what you call a long haul! I'm sure you'll have a great cruise! The itineraries leaving out of San Juan are port intensive, which I love! I just finished my review of Alaska (on Carnival). Here's the link to that if you're interested (although it's a completely different type of cruise) http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1929967

Here is my current reading list (mostly Summit picture reviews although there are a few other lines with similiar itineraries towards the bottom of the list). This should keep you busy for a while! :D

I like the reviews with pictures and the ones with a humorous or a very informative style. Must have paragraphs.

Especially read a lot of reviews before going on a cruise to get into the anticipation and excitement of it.

Then I also read the specific reviews about the ship I'am going on at the CC review section.

if you like 'entertaining' reviews, you must read any by SailorJack - imo, the absolute best in entertainment value! great writer, LOL funny, and informative, too. he's got quite a following on these boards. (most?) recent review, Antarctica on Infinity, this past Jan-Feb, I think...discovered him a few yrs. ago when sailing around the Horn, BA to Santiago - one of my all-time favorite reviews of anything ever! a must-read for anyone doing that cruise or simply if you want a good laugh! love, love, love SailorJack reviews :):):)

I agree. The absolute BEST read on cruising. Descriptive, VERY funny, pictures. Would love to see a compilation in book form.

I agree with others who enjoy reading an articulate, balanced review. My eyes glaze over when I encounter a "review" that is really just a tirade crammed into one paragraph. And, truthfully, some of these are more like one long, run-on sentence. In any narrative, punctuation can be your friend. ;)

I do want to hear about the problems encountered, as well as the positive experiences. But, I need the facts, not drama. Hyperbole is not always the most effective way to get your point across. I am also a little suspicious of the "cheerleader" reviews -- where there were absolutely zero problems in the entire trip. I'm more interested in hearing about how the ship and/or cruise line dealt with the issues that did arise.

I want to read about the cruise experience. Not interested in reading about flight delays, bad service on flights, bad service at pre and post hotels, things that have nothing to do with the cruise that some reviewers use to give a cruise a low star rating.

Well actually, if the hotel and airfare were booked though the cruiseline (Choice Air, etc), then I think it is relevant to discuss it in the review. If not, then I agree -- we don't really need to hear about it. ;)

How about pre & post stay/activities in the place of departure? I'll on staying in Puerto Rico ( not just San Juan) before & after the cruise.

Would that be of any interest or is there a preference of cruise only?

We always note our pre-cruise accommodation in our reviews, just in case people like to know about it and how close it is to the pier.:D
