Rare QuilterGirl Posted November 2, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 2, 2013 DDIL has asked if there is someplace besides their room where a carseat can be stored while on a Mexican Riviera cruise on the Sapphire Princess. A carseat is needed because the shuttle from the LA area to San Pedro (and back) does not provide a carseat, so they wish to bring their own for just those drives. DGS will be 2.75 years old, a bit young for a booster and way young for a naked seatbelt. Anyhow, will stewards take the seat to a storage area upon request? Or is the family stuck with storing it in their cabin closet?
katiedidthat Posted November 2, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2013 I wouldn't feel comfortable sending my car seat to be stored somewhere, you wouldn't know if it was dropped or exposed to extreme heat or cold. I'm pretty sure you have to store it in your room anyway but it really should never leave your possession.
cb at sea Posted November 2, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 2, 2013 You will store it in your cabin...it will fit either in the closet or in a corner of the cabin. No worries!
Kerry's Girls Posted November 2, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 2, 2013 I've sailed on the Sapphire twice (including the picture below). I fit two car seats on the floor of the closet with no problem. They should have a great cruise - we did it many times and always loved it. Best, Mia
Hstergo Posted November 2, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 2, 2013 I doubt anywhere they store things is as hot as a car interior summertime so I don't think you should be worried about it.
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 2, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 2, 2013 You could ask if they can store it for you in another area. Keith
ducklite Posted November 2, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 2, 2013 Keep it in the shower, and just place it in the bed when the shower is in use. Autocorrect responsible for most typos...

Rare 1025cruise Posted November 2, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 2, 2013 How do they plan to secure the car seat to the shuttle? Not all shuttles can accommodate car seats.
lrowe70 Posted November 2, 2013 #10 Share Posted November 2, 2013 How do they plan to secure the car seat to the shuttle? Not all shuttles can accommodate car seats. That's what I was thinking. We've done many shuttles and a good 75% either don't have seat belts or don't have working ones.
Rare QuilterGirl Posted November 2, 2013 Author #11 Share Posted November 2, 2013 I can see why you might think there would be no seatbelts in a "shuttle" to anchor a carseat. This is actually a van - we have booked "PrimeTime Shuttle" to drive a family group in a "private van" from LAX to the cruise port in San Pedro. So we must assume there will be seatbelts in the van! But I agree, that if it were a bus of any size - what is usually meant by "shuttle" - that there would be no seatbelts available.
Kerry's Girls Posted November 2, 2013 #12 Share Posted November 2, 2013 Princess has open closets with plenty of space for the carseat without loss of space. EM Great picture EM! Perfect for people to be able to reference that can keep their car seats, folded up stroller, etc. there. Best, Mia

ducklite Posted November 3, 2013 #14 Share Posted November 3, 2013 Your room steward can hold it for you... With plenty of room to store it in their closet, why would they burden the steward further? Kerry's Girls Posted November 3, 2013 #15 Share Posted November 3, 2013 Your room steward can hold it for you... Based on what? It's a shame when you post one line like it's more important to up your post count than to really share information. If you've ever had a steward on Princess store something bulky, it would be really helpful to know that. Otherwise, it is giving parents new to this board possibly inaccurate informtion. OP - Obviously, space is at a premium on cruise ships. Your DDIL could give it a try with a tip on the first day to see if the steward will find a place for it, but the best thing is to plan to keep it in the cabin - I understand the concern about where will it go, but you can assure her that many of us have done this (often with more than one) with no problem. luvsviola Posted November 4, 2013 #16 Share Posted November 4, 2013 I wouldn't let it out of my possession. You would have no idea if it was drop-kicked, and if it got misplaced, you'd be screwed at debarkation. It can be the "time out chair" in your cabin. :) Another option for them if they want to spend the money is a Safe Rider vest. It works for children over 30 pounds. http://safetrafficsystem.com/ver4/products/how-to-choose/
CI66774 Posted November 4, 2013 #17 Share Posted November 4, 2013 I doubt very much that Princess will store it for you. You will need to keep it in your cabin.
