Yes, some people will sleep anywhere and luckily good presenters shrug it off and occasionally become comedic in how they treat the situation.:D

I will guarantee that there will virtually always be a someone asleep in events in the main theatre, whether they be entertainers or lecturers. These theatres are close to the bow and the gentle movement of the ship rocks some people to sleep.

But that may have been very interesting for some. The good thing about the ship's activities are if there is a good variety so that people have a choice. Last cruise we had a guy called Milos, who was fantastic with his various topics and I even missed going to Trivia a few times just for his lectures.:D

 missed trivia??is that even allowed??!! :D

Some lectures are fantastic and with some....

well .....the best thing is that there are plenty of seats to choose from..:D

I think it also makes a difference with the type of cruise. If its a holiday cruise around the Islands the last thing you would be doing is sitting inside listening to all the other passengers coughing and spluttering.....however if its a longer cruise with lots of sea days , the lectures , providing they are interesting are worthwhile.

I remember on one cruise across the Pacific , they had a marine biologist and her talks just got worse and worse. At the final one , the sex life of a starfish , ...no one turned up.

I have also been to others where the audience fall asleep.....yes during the day....On one occasion a gentleman in the front row nodded off and started snoring so loudly that the speakers mike was picking it up , and he had to move to the other side of the stage.

LMAO. that is so devastating as a speaker. I often do TAFE students and it's such a buzz to see gen Y's actually put their phones down & start making eye contact!!:)

I love the  expressions you sometimes get! You know you have hit the target interest wise!

If I ever get a gig & it happens to me, I will cite this as a reason & not my squeaky voice or dud presentation!!ha ha :)

Especially when they are so tired from being awake. :D

What is your field of expertise? Some working-life occupations translate to an interesting subject for lectures.

You would have to be able to present a series of lectures - one every sea day.

Juvenile offending.

I was thinking presentations from the grandparent's angle as well as families & general interest. :)

Ooooohhhh forensics :) I read that that topic is super popular at the moment!

MicCanberra. Are you able to say what line or any further info? Did she have to do ever sea day? :) appreciate any inside goss!

I don't know too much, but RCI, lectures every sea day, she is taking her sister as her guest also at the reduced price but I do not know what that is now as they negotiated. Forensics is the topic but specialising in fatality investigation.

I will try and glean more info.:D

DW recieved an email this morning accepting her latest Arts & Crafts proposal. :D

We sail on Radiance of the Seas on 3rd of February - less than four weeks away! So the ability to sail at short notice is an advantage although previous time we had about 4 months notice.

I'm surprised that RCI is putting an Arts & Crafts instructor on this cruise because it is fairly port intensive. Only 4 sea days on an 11 night cruise, so only 4 Arts & Craft sessions to prepare. :)

An email to one or all of these, asking for information on where to submit your CV may bring a few results..

Lecturers do get repeat contracts. We had a very interesting lecturer on the old Crown Princess when we cruised from Hawaii to Tahiti. Several years later when we did the Round Australia cruise , the same lecturer was on board. His subject was Captain Cook and it was just as interesting second time around. He was also a retired ships pilot and gave wonderful talks of his experiences over the years. We got chatting to him and his wife on a shore tour and while not directly asking I got the impression he had paid for his cruise , (discounted ), and was not being paid for the lectures.

Its probably easier for both , rather than have all the hassles with the dreaded "tax" question.

We agree we cruised with this pilot and found his talks rivetting He also did Captain Bligh's personal life and the happenings of a pilot in Queensland

I know it is off subject but if I were at a table with anyone Gen Y or not who texted during the meal I would be moving to another table with hopefully cruisers with better manners:rolleyes:

Hi Sparky,

You'll never get your diamond level doing these craft gigs!! :D ;)

It was nice meeting you both on the repositioning cruise last year.

We found a great deal on a Jr Suite in March, so we are sailing on Rhapsody & get to make it to diamond because of the double points! Yeh.

Downside, we have to pay for the cruise!

Hope to see you on the high seas again someday!:)
