cruisinforabruising Posted January 13, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) So currently my wife an I are booked in a 2B Veranda (6138) on the Reflection and we recently learned that we could use our My Cruise Rewards Points for a cruise discount or onboard credit of $750. I am torn as to whether or not to upgrade our room into a better category or use the extra money for things such as shore excursions that we weren't going to be able to take, casino, specialty restaurant or spa treatments for the wife. What would you all do? Edited January 13, 2014 by cruisinforabruising

Unless you plan on spending a ton of time in your room I would do all the other things like a specialty restaurant, casino etc
CathyCruises Posted January 13, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2014 I am a firm believer that a standard balcony cabin is the way to go on S class ships--the extra cost for CC and AQ just isn't worth it to us. Keep the money and have fun with it!

Keep the money and have fun with it! Agree with Cathy and would not upgrade. Many of the CC benefits are just marketing, an AQ upgrade does get your Blu which is like eating in a specialty every night but saving the money will get you to use the money for a variety of specialties. phoenix_dream Posted January 13, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2014 I would not use it to upgrade to CC, but might to AQ if the price difference were minimal. My thinking is, you chose the room you did for a reason, price I am guessing one of them. This money is real money - if the room you booked was good enough at the time, why 'waste' this money on perks you obviously felt you could do without. Instead, treat yourself to special dinners, spa treatments, a fabulous shore excursion or the like. Now if you could bump up to a Sky Suite for the difference (doubtful) then I would possibly splurge on that if you had never sailed in one before. My opinion - I am all for nice rooms but I prefer experiences rather than a few extra amenities.
cruisinforabruising Posted January 13, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Thank you all for your feedback. Yes, the reason we chose the room we did was it was the least expensive balcony without any obstruction. I think you guys have convinced me to pass on the upgrade and stick with the room I already have. I was on the Reflection last year and had a CC room and didn't really see the benefits other than the location. I was just worried about being on a lower deck so close to the front of the ship. CathyCruises Posted January 13, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 13, 2014 I would look seriously at the Ultimate Dining package if I had all that OBC to spend!! $29/pp/day IIRC.
