geocruiser Posted January 25, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 25, 2014 Just got it in my E-mail too. I used to love them years ago sailing from NYC on Home Lines.
lovevacadays Posted January 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) Just curious as I have never done a cruise in the Caribbean in the summer - how is the weather? I cruised once in late May and we encountered a lot of rain. Interesting. I just looked at the Western Caribbean itinerary and they are not going to Roatan. On the 7 day they have Ocho Rios Jamaica. Not a great substitute in my opinion. I wonder why this is? Edited January 25, 2014 by MichelleinOC

Rare cwtravel Posted January 25, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 25, 2014 Just got it in my E-mail too. I used to love them years ago sailing from NYC on Home Lines. Wow, Home Lines. My first cruise was on the Oceanic from NYC to Nassau. I was 13, with my family and fell in love with cruising. That was a great ship and Home Lines was a class operation! JPEvans Posted January 25, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 25, 2014 The email didn't give a lot of information. Are they from New York?
caribill Posted January 25, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 25, 2014 Port Everglades only. Just go to the Princess web site and on the "Plan a Cruise" drop down menu select "Search Cruises." Pick "Caribbean" as the destination and the months you are interested in. You will then see all the itineraries.
luv4cruises Posted January 25, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 25, 2014 So happy they are back! Anyone wanting to cruise the summer Caribbean recently had to choose RCI, Carnival or possibly a Disney Ship. I sailed out of New York on the Caribbean Princess in July a few years back. The weather was hot, but that is what I expect in the Caribbean. Glad to have more summer time choices! I prefer to sail from Florida, not loose too many days getting to the Caribbean! cruisincdns Posted January 25, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) Can anyone predict the weather? Very true, but, isn't is that prime hurricane season? Edited January 25, 2014 by cruisincdns
Two@Sea Posted January 25, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 25, 2014 Very true, but, isn't is that prime hurricane season? Speaking from experience (good ol' 2004!) hurricanes are most likely from mid September thru early November. Mother Nature tends to have her own ideas, however, and can vary her routine whenever the mood strikes her. Rather than sit for hours on gridlocked roads trying to flee an impending hurricane (been there, done that), being at sea would be an attractive alternative! Not a great substitute in my opinion. I wonder why this is? We went in July once and June once. Both were cloudy and boiling hot. The one in July was the hottest cruise ever. Son burnt his knees when he fell on the sun deck. Both cruises were just extremely hot but there wasn't much direct sunlight so tanning wasn't the best.
caribill Posted January 25, 2014 #13 Share Posted January 25, 2014 Very true, but, isn't is that prime hurricane season? Hurricane season has not discouraged other cruise lines from having Caribbean voyages over the summer. If there is a hurricane (or tropical storm), the itinerary will be changed to avoid it. A hurricane will only be a serious problem if it will be in South Florida when the ship is scheduled for a turnaround day.

Stevedan Posted January 26, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 26, 2014 Glad to see others remember Home Lines so affectionately. Nothing now even comes close!
Cruzingal#9 Posted January 26, 2014 #16 Share Posted January 26, 2014 We're booked on the Caribbean Princess for the Western Caribbean the second week in June. We've been to the Caribbean before in June and have never had a problem. Of course, we're from Arizona where it's 120 degrees in the summer so anything feels cooler to us! We've also cruised many of times in October to the Caribbean and have never once had a problem with weather due to tropical storms or hurricanes. Of course now that I've said that……... Rare ontheweb Posted January 26, 2014 #17 Share Posted January 26, 2014 We've been on 2 Western Caribbean cruises both in August. Yes, they were hot, but not nearly as hot as we were being in Italy on 2 Western Mediterranean cruises also in August.
kendon Posted January 26, 2014 Author #18 Share Posted January 26, 2014 We've cruised the Caribbean very often in the summer and never had weather issues.
Rare ontheweb Posted January 26, 2014 #19 Share Posted January 26, 2014 On our first cruise in the Caribbean (2nd overall), we had a hurricane. We made all our port stops, but could not get back to Fort Lauderdale for 2 days. The 2 extra days of cruising were fine, except for disembarkation. There were too many ships coming in on the same day for immigration to handle. We were all stuck in a hot, sticky lounge while different colors were called with no one getting off the ship. Plus, the Fort Lauderdale airport on Labor Day when no flights had been able to take off for the last two days was hell. We were lucky to get home.
