First Cruise to Bermuda from NY-NCL breakaway or X Summit?

Hello all, my wife and I (both 29) are planning a cruise to Bermuda from NY. It seems that the two best options are NCL and Celebrity. We have been doing a lot of research on both ships and it seems they both have their pros and cons. We are looking for some help in deciding which ship to go with. We have two little kids but are going sans kids this trip. We both love trying new foods and will be planning on drinking as well. We don't go out much but would like the options on the ship to do so. We generally are laid back but wouldn't mind a little more hustle and bustle. Since we won't have any kids we would like as many options as possible without overdoing it. However, we do want to be on a clean well kept ship with the best food and nicest staterooms possible. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

We'd definately choose Getwaway. We've done the Epic 3 times. So much to do and fabulous entertainment. Getaway offers even more. We also like Celebrity, but a little too formal us. Celebrity will also have an older crowd.

The Getwaway does not go to Bermuda, Either the Summit or Breakaway does.

We are cruising to Bermuda this summer aboard Breakaway.

We chose her because she's a brand new ship (May 2013). Her home port is NYC year round and she has the Waterfront on deck 8 (a 1/4 mile "boardwalk" with outdoor venues where you can eat, have some cocktails or listen to Jazz). Spice H2O is an adult-only lounge with hot tubs and a fountain water feature.

Everyone has their own preferences however. So just keep doing your research and choose what's best for you.

Which ever you do choose, you really can't go wrong!

1. You are on vacation

2. You are on a cruise

3. You are sailing to Bermuda (one of the best destinations, if you ask me)

Happy Cruising!!!

Instead of comparing the ships, may I suggest comparing the advantages/disadvantages of the cruise lines?

Both X and NCL do certain things very well, and other things not so well. The corporate culture and market niche are very, very different. I think the two lines are polar opposites among the mass market cruise companies.

Look at those things instead of the ship. Pick whichever FITS your style of vacationing better.

Two totally different experiences

Like loud and brash pick NCL

Like subdued and refined pick Celebrity

Happy with fast food restaurants pick NCL

Like upscale dining pick Celebrity

Like no dress rules and come as you are pick NCL

Like formal evenings where there is a dress code pick Celebrity

You should have figured out I dislike NCL intensely and think Celebrity offers a much better product. For me one cruise on NCL to Bermuda was two too many.

If you want an old and boring crowd with wheelchairs and walkers causing jams in the hallways, and complaining about how things arent what they used to be, go Celebrity. If you want a good mix of ages and a more energetic crowd thats actually having fun, go NCL.

Absolutely not the case on Celebrity during the summer to Bermuda, lots of families with kids. I have done that trip four times with Celebrity and once with NCL.

I have been on both NCL and Celebrity to Bermuda. NCL has edge in entertainment, Celebrity hands down on food both in the MDR and the Specialty restaurants.

Also, Celebrity has one of the most restrictive smoking policies in the industry, no smoking anywhere inside the ship only a few places outdoors. NCLs ships can sometimes feel like you are in a chimney especially the casino.

I enjoyed all my cruises to Bermuda whether it be NCL or Celebrity. For a honeymoon, I would do Celebrity.

To the OP:

Gunner and JP are the extremist opinions that make sensible people consider not cruising at all. They are full of exaggerated rubbish. I encourage (implore) you to ignore their comments.

BOTH cruise lines have a totally different vibe. And that's a GOOD thing. Pick the one that fits you best AT THIS TIME IN YOUR LIFE, and recognize that your preferences may be different next year.

Remember this: you're young. You'll have plenty of time for repeat visits and repeat cruises.

Sailed the Summit to Bermuda several years ago. Sailed on the Epic last year. Sailing on the Breakaway in May. The Summit cabin was a balcony, Epic was a Studio and Breakaway is a suite. Dined in MDR and specialty restaurant on Summit and only specialty restaurants on Epic..... Bought the UDP for the Breakaway.
