Late night buffet?s

As we make it our habit never to eat after dinner on a cruise we have never even looked at the spread in the Lido that is set out at aprox 1030pm. BUT this year we are taking along some friends who have asked "what do they serve?" at that time. So can someone please give me an idea of what they offer at that time? Cruise is 11 days on the Noordam if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

The late night buffets aren't as large as they used to be.

Times can vary from ship to ship. 10:30 - 11:30 or 11 to Midnight. Check your daily "On Location" programs.

They usually have a theme -- one night Mexican, another Italian, Dutch, etc.

There are a few offerings and some desserts.

There is no longer a Dessert Extravaganza.

In real life, I don't eat past 9pm, but on a cruise that's another story. :o

My DH is up late so he went alone the first night and he was very surprised to find an entirely fresh menu (like the other Lido menus, it is posted near the elevators so you can check it out in advance). He really enjoyed himself and convinced me to come the next night.

They had peanut chicken satay, lots of yummy sidedishes, desserts + other entrees. It was restricted to one section of the buffet, so not a huge amount of stuff, but it was great. I actually ate some of my favourite things in that buffet (yes, I went back).

In comparison to Princess, where it is largely just leftovers. Literally, the same things they served that day at lunch or dinner, with some pizza and hot dogs thrown in. No real complaints as it's good not to waste food, but we found the HAL late night buffet was a real treat.

who is up after 10:30 to go to the buffet? Maybe the casino!

I'm up, of course. It's still early. But I am not interested in the buffet when I have just left the dining room some time around 10:00. :p

Not everyone on HAL goes to bed at sunset.

OP -- warn your friends that if the seas are rough, the portions that are put out are reduced. ;) We had one night that was WILDLY rough, and the late night buffet offerings were set out in square cake pans. We were the only ones there that night, I think so there was still enough to go around

There was a desert extravaganza on the Ooosterdam Australia New Zealand in November December. Looked very nice but I didn't try any. I think they had a half hour for photos before they were serving.

Ours in October had the 30 min photo window. They candied apples and custom-made cases they were displayed on Eurodam were simply amazing.

I know our parents had it on Zuiderdam in January, they are definitely still on HAL ships.

They didn't have it on the Zuiderdam last September. And I don't think it was on my previous cruise, either. I don't miss it, it was such a huge waste of food.
