Noro Preventive

Yesterday our local news (Niagara, Canada) reported that Noro may be fought with Oregano Oil. Unfortunately, I missed the segment. Has anyone heard of this?

I have been taking oil of oregano for years. It did wonders clearing up my fungal sinus infection when nothing else did. I was diagnosed and treated by an ENT to no avail and saw a naturopath in desperation. She is the one who recommended the Oil of Oregano. It was gone within a week after battling it for months.

It has been a remedy that has been around since Biblical times. It works as an anti fungal, anti viral and antibiotic. There are books out on the subject. It comes in capsule form or in a drop form. The drops are really strong. You just put a couple of drops under your tongue or mix it in water or juice.

Whenever exposed to anyone with a cold or flu we take this as well as some Olive Leaf Extract, which works well too.

Web MD has a page on it.

Yes, I have read this but it is sad that people have to post things like this because they (1) don't believe in alternative medicine or (2) are afraid of alternative medicine. My father-in-law was a General Surgeon and had an acupuncturist in his office. You can have both in your life. The reason we have so much disease in our world is because we are over-medicated. We need to get back to nature...

I totally agree. Many doctors who were nothing but pill pushers are realizing that there are other solutions and are into integrative care. I have switched to an internist who is certified in Functional Medicine. She was totally the opposite way until she had her own health crisis. Then she opened her mind and did lots of research and got retrained. She still writes prescriptions, but only when absolutely necessary. She is more in tune with lifestyle, diet and supplementation in order to actually cure what ails us, instead of popping a pill to mask symptoms. If you go to major cancer centers in the US you will be cared for by oncologists, surgeons, massage therapists, acupuncturists, nutritionists and pallative care specialists.

My husband's cardiologist was AMA all the way until he got Leukemia. His approach to cardiology is now more preventative with diet, lifestyle changes and vitamins. Yes, you can, and probably need, both approaches to really be healthy.

Hello All...After extensive research including reading articles from the CDC, new England Journal Of Medicine, and, other health articles, I'm reading that all of these hand sanitizers, no matter the brand or ingredients are a waste of money, aren't as effective as just plain soap and water, and, can actually cause more problems than being helpful.

Every major medical center, has said that just soap and water, along with washing your hands often, is the best preventative, NOT, all of these hand sanitizers. Plastic gloves were also mentioned, but we all know that it is very difficult to wear those all over the ship.

Now, some can disagree, and that is fine, as everyone has a different opinion, but I will heed the call from the medical and CDC professionals, save, and not waste my money on hand sanitizers, and wash often. However, I suppose we can talk ourselves into believing anything, so, for others that feel the sanitizers work, I guess you should still use them.

I'm sure the people selling those "oils" and "sprays" will be glad to keep taking your money:rolleyes:

Nothing wrong in that post, I'm from a medical family and have an open mind but I have no problem when someone points out total quackery, I thank them for it :)

Most virus' are not airborne, but are droplets. Yes, within 5 feet of a person sneezing, coughing, etc you can inhale a droplet so avoid those people who do not cover their cough or sneeze (hopefully with a kleenex or their elbow, not their hand). I am a Respiratory Therapist and the airborne infection we are most concerned with is TB. Anti-Bacterial hand cleaners are good only against bacteria and give you a false sense of security when dealing with viruses. Plus, all these anti-bacterial products are creating the super-bug monsters that can get you really sick!

There is no way to avoid the norovirus, flu and cold bugs that are all around us in the winter months. You can try, but you won't succeed. You can reduce the impact of them with frequent hand washing and keeping your hands away from your mouth. Honestly, the second best way to minimize exposure is to avoid public facilities where a large amount of people are together in a close space during cold and flu season. Places like airplanes, theaters and cruise ships. Barring that, boost your own natural immunity, wash your hands and be smart. Being scared is crazy. Life's too short. (Or cruise in the summer months when these virus' are less active).

Please stop obsessing about germs... If you are that paranoid stay home! You cannot possibly be germ free on a cruise! This topic appears every year. Noro and other viruses are a fact of life. Let your immune system deal with it. All this use of antibacterial crap is why everyone gets sick in the first place. Those who obsess the most get sick the most. I expect to get flamed but this is just common sense people!!! All these wipes and cleaners are full of chemicals. Think about others that come after you who might be allergic to these chemicals. Personally the smell of Lysol is enough to make me sick.

No flame from me! I agree with you and if I didn't know better I would think you were my daughter. She says the same thing all the time, including your Lysol comment.:D

Well said BUT:

THE SHIP WILL HAVE A SPECIAL WASTE BASKET BY THE DOOR SO YOU CAN GET IT OPEN' date=' TOSS THE CLEAN TOWEL INTO THE GARBAGE CAN AND GET YOURSELF OUT THE DOOR.[/quote']

There is nothing "special" about the wastebasket. It is regular size, the same seen throughout the ship.
