Walking to cruise terminal ft Lauderdale

Are there any hotels close enough to the port in Ft Lauderdale to allow us to walk to and from? A mile to a mile and a half is about our range. Also, is it pedestrian friendly enough to allow this? Thanks.

I would not consider Port Everglades pedestrian friendly. It's a large, industrial type area.

For what reasons do you want to walk?

We like to walk. We're both letter carriers, so It's no big deal. We pack in backpacks, and to us a mile walk to the ship is preferable to dealing with the hassle of a shuttle or cab. We've walked to and from cruise ships in New york and over the bridge in Miami. A good way to burn a few calories before or after consuming too many calories.

Well, not getting run over by a tractor trailer is better for your health than burning a few calories.

Only the northernmost terminal (Princess) is about a mile to a mile and a half from the nearest hotels and there are some sidewalks along the way, but beyond that there aren't any. it's very commercial, busy and much farther than a couple miles.

Greetings

I have a quick piece of advice: Don't walk!

First - there are no sidewalks and the port streets are not the best due to the volume of heavy trucks hauling the containers in and out of the port.

Second - only terminals 1,2 and 4 on the northern end of the port next to the convention center are close enough to even try.

Third - there are guard gates to check vehicles in/out of the port. These are not set up to handle foot traffic.

Take a cab, it will only be a few dollars.

Good Sailing

Tom
