Recent attacks raises suspicion about safety

We recently came off the Victory. Late one afternoon there was a knock at the door and when I opened the door, the guy holding the plate of chocolate covered strawberries handed them to me and said they were from John Hill. I said Who? And he said, is this cabin XXXX? I said no and closed the door. SIL was in cabin next to us and she got the same guy looking for cabin XXXX. Then around 9:00 one night, SIL got a knock on the door and some guy was coming in her room by using a room key. She startled him and he said you need room clean? She said no and he left. SIL was sailing alone this cruise.

Are there some sort of scams going on around the ships that we need to be aware of? The guy who came to clean the room was not the orginial cabin steward. Who is suppose to legitimately be entitled to hold a key to the cabin?

After reading about the recent attacks on these borads, I started to wonder about what happened to us on our ship and if these people knocking on our doors were for real. Do we need to be more cautious on up coming cruises?

Awareness and vigilance should be everyone's main concern especially when you are in a foreign environment. Unfortunately, there are sick and crazy people everywhere; even on cruise ships. I can't speak of the events that have occurred within the past few weeks as I am not privy to the details, but in your case I would have definitely been on guard because both situations seem extremely abnormal. And next time make sure to lock all of the locks so that someone can't just barge their way in.

All I know is that I was very disturbed about a recent video of a girl at the hot tubs that was having some kind of altercation with another passenger, and all the security officers seemed to have just started day 1 training, no clue what to do. And after a very long time when she was led away, she ended up throwing the person escorting her into the pool.

I am scared now to sail Carnival.

I cruise solo all the time and have never had a problem. In fact, I feel safer solo on a cruise than I do on a land vacation. If something like that happened to me, I would call security and report it.

Common sense goes a long way including always locking the cabin door and using the secondary locks, and reporting suspicious behavior or people.

Carnival has security cameras in the public areas and could likely look and see who it was if you report someone suspicious.

Search is down, but I remember that. I can only find the tail end from another angle:

John Hill sounds like "John Heald." Maybe with the accent the name wasn't understood? Either way - wrong cabin times two.

As for someone letting themselves into the cabin with a room key, I would have immediately contacted Guest Services and told them what happened. They could search the lock log and see who/when/where the cabin was accessed. A Always put the safety lock on the door whenever in your cabin to avoid such unauthorized "guests."

I've been on 31 cruises with CCL and I have never had an altercation with anyone besides all the altercations that I witnessed alcohol was involved. I cruise solo all the time granted I am male. Females that cruise have to be specially careful and be aware of your surroundings and use good judgment and if you feel that something is not right report the issue to the purser and make sure in incident is documented. Just go a cruise and have fun!!!!

That video is a hoot. However, having seen this scene played out many times with male security leery of touching drunk female in a bathing suit who has no sense of personal dignity, understand that it is more about fear of being accused of "bad touch" than incompetence. Where do you grab wet, barely clothed female to remove from a public place without escalating the situation?

Passengers need to follow basic safety protocol when in your cabin. I believe the cabin doors have the "view holes" so you can see who is on the other side. Ask for ID if you aren't expecting crew to come to your cabin. If in any doubt, don't open the door and call the front desk. If you didn't order room service, don't answer the door for someone claiming they have yours.

Around the ship can be tougher, but as you would on land, stay in populated areas.

Yes, lessons learned. From now on we will make sure we turn the lock on the cabin door after getting into our cabin and make sure the balcony is locked before we leave. Never had any problems in the past but need to be aware of our surroundings at all times.

We did not report anything to guest services. I guess I could write a letter to Carnival just to make them aware of what happened on the ship. Not sure if they can go back a few weeks to review who entered the cabin at 9:00 at night.

How do you interpret that as incompetence??? They clearly were aware of the situation and on site trying to take the unruly person away while being aware of the fact she is a customer and female with no cloths on. They firmly take her away and get more forceful after she puts a crew member at risk with that pool dive on him. I am impressed they actually took her away with force as she should have been.

Immediately contacting Guest Services is exactly what we would have done!

i think they handled it pretty well? she didn't really "throw" him in there. looks like she tried to jump up on him and he lost his balance. i just hope she had someone that could check up on her.

I have done many solo cruises and haven't been worried yet. I just use the same common sense I would use walking around any land location. I always put the second lock on my door when I go into my room, just as I do at home. The only time we've had a problem with someone who was overly friendly was with a friend on another line and I just refused to leave them alone (at her request). The key factor in all of this is using common sense and if something doesn't feel right, getting out of there immediately.

I don't know what's more disgusting and disturbing about that video -- the behaviour of the drunken idiot herself, or the fact that there are so many loudly cheering it on.:mad: Jerry Springer of the Seas. Is this what Carnival is coming to?
