A quick money question

Recommended Posts

I don't want to call Royal probably can't get thru. So here's the question

If we need more cash will the pursers cash check or is there a ATM

They will cash one personal check per cruise for up to $200. There is also an ATM on board the ship, but it is out of service from time to time.

All of the ships function the same way.

You can cash ONE check per cruise, at Guest Services, for a maximum of $200.

Every ship has at least two ATMs, I believe. As Bob said, they are not always in service. There is a service charge - not sure what it is now, but the last time that I used one, it was $6 per withdrawal.

You can also get cash at the cashier's window in the casino. They will add a service fee of 5% to the transaction.

If the ATM near the customer service area is down try the one in the casino. We did that last time and no problem.

Here is what we do, so we aren't carrying a ton of cash:

Before we leave town we take most of our cash and go to a local credit union (or bank) and exchange the cash into Traveler Checks. Most credit unions and some banks do this for free.

Once we get on board we go to the pursers desk every so often when needed and exchang for cash in whatever do denomination needed. They say that they will do this as long as they have the cash on hand. I have never had them not have the cash to do this with.

If the checks get lost or stolen, when you return home (or from the ship) you can call them and report them lost / stolen and you will receive your money back.

Usually the PSD can cash a check up to $250 as a one time courtesy. To avoid the high ATM fees just get some cashback on your sail and sign from the casino. I pulled $100 before and it only cost me $5.

For information, I was advised by the casino staff last week on Brilliance that they will no longer cash cheques in the casino. This is a new company wide policy and all cheques can only be cashed at Guest Services. They will only exchange cheques for chips if cashed in the casino. Edited by peteukmcr

Theoretically, couldn't you cash your check with them, get chips, go "play" some games and come back and exchange for cash or OBC onto your Sea pass?

This is exactly what we do also...some say Traveler's Checks are outdated...truely their not and are easy to cash onboard. RCI has no fee to do this.
