KPfromCT Posted March 14, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 14, 2014 They are the BEST!!!!!!!!!!! DD (15) eats one every night in the MDR, and also gets one each day, via room service. They really are good, and fresh!!! 113 days to go.......:D:D
SMSACE6 Posted March 14, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 14, 2014 I like their Caesar salad very much, and yes that anchovy taste is a good thing for me too.:)
asalligo Posted March 14, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 14, 2014 I love a good caesar with real anchovies, but I found every night something better on the menu and I cannot order two appetizers as I am trying to not completely blow the diet. My daughter had it every night though and loved it.
Rare 1kaper Posted March 14, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 14, 2014 Has an anchovy taste in the dressing. There are definitely anchovies in it. I asked two waiters if the dressing was made with raw egg since real Caesar dressing is and both responded with "there are anchovies in it". Still don't know the raw egg answer. :D I liked their Caesar salad. I didn't have it last trip due to the egg question.
beyond2k Posted March 14, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 14, 2014 I found them too fishy tasting for myself. And I really like Caesar salads.
sanmarcosman Posted March 14, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 14, 2014 So what is in carnivals regular Caesar salad? So many different varieties. It's a plain Caesar, i.e. served without chicken. Has an anchovy taste in the dressing. Anchovy is a key ingredient in Caesar Salad.
Lyncoya Posted March 14, 2014 #11 Share Posted March 14, 2014 There used to be a Salmon Caesar salad on the room service menu. It was sooooooo good. On our last cruise, they didn't offer it. :(
KPfromCT Posted March 14, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 14, 2014 I guess I don't really taste the "anchovy" in it, because I am a SALTAHOLIC!!!!!:eek::eek:
riffatsea Posted March 14, 2014 #13 Share Posted March 14, 2014 Traditional Caesar Salad should have real anchovies in it and not just a "taste" in the dressing but I suppose that is not the norm these days.
kicia Posted March 14, 2014 #14 Share Posted March 14, 2014 We always ask for a side serving of anchovies to put into the salad. We like the Caesar salads.
gtaylor Posted March 15, 2014 #15 Share Posted March 15, 2014 On the Miracle last week, we had good Caesar Salad in the MDR and from the salad bar on the Lido, but absolutely the BEST was from the Pizza counter! gary
cruising_diva Posted March 15, 2014 #16 Share Posted March 15, 2014 In my experience, the ones in the MDR don't have anchovies actually on the salad. The room service ones do (or so I have been told - and therefore have never gotten one). I didn't know that you could get one at the pizza place. Good to know - I will check thay out! twentyknots Posted March 16, 2014 #18 Share Posted March 16, 2014 I started ordering the caesar on my first fantasy cruise 3 years ago. I enjoyed it and continued to order it several times on each of the following 6 fantasy cruises. I had never eaten a caesar before the fantasy. Recently, on my wife's birthday, we ate at our favorite restaurant. It's a nice restaurant but not extremely high priced. The average entrée is around $30. We ordered the caesar and I was surprised at how much better it was than the fantasy. My wife said, what did you expect? You paid $8 for this salad. It shouldn't be any comparison. I had never noticed before other menu items being so much different than typical restaurant quality.
lostdart1 Posted March 16, 2014 #19 Share Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) Traditional Caesar Salad should have real anchovies in it and not just a "taste" in the dressing but I suppose that is not the norm these days. Sorry but this is 100% incorrect. The original Caesar salad recipe attributed to restaurateur Caesar Cardini, did not contain pieces of anchovy; the slight anchovy flavor comes from the Worcestershire sauce. Anchovies in an ingredient in Worcestershire sauce....(go to your pantry and check for yourself) _______________________________________ .....and I would bet my cruise that there is no raw egg in the Caesar dressing on the ship......just too much risk for salmonella issues. (On the menu there is no * shown which is the public health advisory about consuming raw and undercooked, meat, poultry, egg, fish etc) Edited March 16, 2014 by lostdart1
dominichunter Posted March 16, 2014 #20 Share Posted March 16, 2014 Our first cruise '76, they made Caesar salad at your table. Some high end cruise lines might still do it.
MEOWSMURPHY Posted March 16, 2014 #21 Share Posted March 16, 2014 My Dh loves their caesar salad..especially when he was advised that he could order a side of anchovies...the MDR salad only has the anchovy tasting dressing but couple that with the side of anchovies and he was a happy camper :D
Rare patrice1 Posted March 16, 2014 #22 Share Posted March 16, 2014 We have loved the Caesar salad on our cruises so much, we actually got the recipe from the chef on the Miracle. Of course, it was for 500 servings, but we live in Key West, where we know many chefs who were happy to break it down for us. No, they use pasteurized egg instead of raw egg, and anchovy paste instead of anchovies, but other than that it's easy to replicate the recipe. We make it all the time. We still both order it every night of our cruises. Best.Salad.Ever.:)
mikem5 Posted March 16, 2014 #23 Share Posted March 16, 2014 Caesar salads on carnival are the absolute best. I order 2 every night of the cruise, along with 2 shrimp cocktails and the didja ever, and whatever else sounds good. But they are the best! nursemommy7578 Posted March 17, 2014 #24 Share Posted March 17, 2014 the first night I had it I could not eat it:mad: it was far too "fishy" for me. I was then told I could have it minus the anchovies:D ordered it that way all week and loved it:)
