LetsGetWet! Posted April 3, 2014 #226 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Speaking only for myself, I don't care what you think. Ryano, I was thinking what you stated. Personally, I enjoyed the delicious irony of a troll showing up to make a post like that! :D I'm sure it was completely lost on him...
Kimnjimnkids Posted April 3, 2014 #227 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Wow it was still just $4.95 on the FOS March 2!! But honestly I would've paid more! In fact we added money for tip (even though the cover charge included tip). The Windjammer was such a nightmare with there NEVER being chairs available and food was ok...going into JR was a dream!! We enjoyed it so much we went back 3 more times that week! The good was really really good!! The staff was actually our fav part though...everyone there is so friendly and hard-working...and 3 of the 4 visits they didn't charge us for my daughter..they said 'no charge for the baby'...and shes 10!! We gladly gave them that $in gratuity plus more! Best menu items you MUST try: Cheese and bacon Fries (starter) Oreo sundae Apple pie ale mode I raved so much on the apple pie w ice cream that our server brought me a second one to go! Filled a cup with vanilla ice cream and gave me the hugest slice of warm apple pie in a 'to go' box!! I highly recommend JR!!! Go try it!! The staff will treat you right and you will appreciate there always being a table to sit at!! We never thought we would go and pay 'extra' but it was SO WORTH IT!!! rubrrick Posted April 3, 2014 #228 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Speaking of JR, if someone wanted a "decent" hamburger on a Royal Caribbean ship, where would they find it? I have had them in the Windjammer, and as long as I can blot off the grease on a paper napkin, and put them on a cold bun, add a piece of cheese that won't melt, and a few condiments, it's doable, but I have to really be in the mood, or it just doesn't cut it. The MDR offers burgers, and they really taste like the ones that I make myself in the WJ. The last time that I had a JR cheeseburger, I would rate it about 2 points above that in the WJ, so a 5 out of 10 for me. Then again, if Royal Caribbean were to change to say, a 5 Guys, Smashburger, or In and Out Burger, I'd be there, with willingness to pay $5.95 for the taste of a great, IMHO burger. I just don't think that JR is worth it.......but that is strickly my opinion, which, by golly, I'm entitled to!!:D Rick

I had to laugh, your description of a Windjammer burger is spot on! We enjoy Johnny Rockets once on every cruise it's available. Our last trip, the burgers were very good, the onion rings, not so much. I won't get into the debate on frozen beef. Is it worth $5.95pp considering you have already paid for your lunch? Probably not. I consider it a treat or a guilty pleasure :). Out last bill, before the BOGO shake was $20. That's pretty close to a McDonald's value meal x 2. And if they put in your other choices, I think they would ALSO end up decent, not great. Strictly my opinion too! ;) Sent from my Galaxy S4 via Tapatalk

ryano Posted April 3, 2014 #232 Share Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) I'd say without a doubt that JR's is the best "decent" burger aboard. Agreed. The Windjammer burgers are terrible to me. I just cant get over them floating in that pond of grease and I seriously wonder if its even 100% beef. What is so funny though is, most everyone around here says Carnival is "subpar" or the walmart of cruising. At least a lot of their ships have been fitted with Guys Burgers that serve up fresh burgers INCLUDED in the price of the cruise and I hear they are really really good. I truly wish RCI could have Carnivals burgers and Princess pizza and not charge a dime extra for it. Edited April 3, 2014 by ryano

Looking at Breeze cruises to maybe give it a try. I thought JR was quite good on Freedom last year. Though we don't have JR in Canada so maybe that first one always tastes better, who knows. yj2cute Posted April 3, 2014 #234 Share Posted April 3, 2014 I never even contemplate the burgers at the buffet. I prefer my cheese melted, thank you. I had Guy's burgers on the Breeze and they are indeed, very good. The fixings bar is plentiful as well. I enjoy my visits to JR's as well, no complaints. Just not happy with the cover charge increasing. However, I probably will still go once per cruise.

rubrrick Posted April 3, 2014 #236 Share Posted April 3, 2014 I love it! Not only is this a debate on the price increase, it's a debate on the quality and taste of the burger itself! And since food is sooooooooo subjective, this thread could go on forever!!:D Just sayin...... Rick

Toddcan Posted April 3, 2014 #239 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Though we don't have JR in Canada There is a JR in the Niagara Falls(Ontario) Casino Mall. There are also a couple in Toronto, I think. At least you have cheaper gas out west :)

All you can eat food and dessert for $5.95 isn't bad at all. I plan on trying the salad when I go with a side of chili and grilled cheese. ryano Posted April 4, 2014 #242 Share Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) Good grief... Speaks volumes about royals customers that people quibble over a $1! Don't like it, don't go :) It doesnt speak volumes about Royals customers at all when .00001% of their overall passengers have a problem with a price hike. IMHO, Its not the $1 people are qubbling about I dont think. At one point, from my understanding, it was included in the cruise fare, then it went to 3.95, then 4.95 and now its 5.95. At what point is enough enough? People have a right to voice displeasure here. Thats what this place is for. They could just as easily tell you if you dont like it, dont read it :) FWIW, I have no problem with the 5.95 charge. I like a good burger at least once on a cruise and JRs is the only place to get one on an RCI ship IMHO. Edited April 4, 2014 by ryano

luvscruising2007 Posted April 4, 2014 #244 Share Posted April 4, 2014 I'm not sure why people are so upset with cost hikes. Have you been to a grocery store lately. The cruise line is in business, and therefore must continue tweak the bottom line. Either you will see hikes in the for fee options or you will pay a higher fare. A business is in it for profit, it is not a charity. As far as Johnny Rockets is concerned, we usually go at least once on a cruise so we can have something different. It's a choice we make willingly. If you don't want to pay the cost, don't go. Simple!!!

ryano Posted April 4, 2014 #247 Share Posted April 4, 2014 . If you don't want to pay the cost, don't go. Simple!!! I said it once and I will say it again and I mean no offense whatsoever. Isnt just the same for someone to tell you if you dont like reading why people are upset, dont read it? Its simple :) Are people just suppose to roll over on their back and take all the price hikes at the store and gasoline price soarage and not voice any displeasure whatsoever? Thats what government wants us to do for sure :) Johnny Rockets has went from included to 5.95. In how many years, I dont know but Im sure someone here does. Thats a pretty big hike. Certainly since their excuse for charging in the first place is to keep kids from hanging out there all the time and taking up all the spaces. Thats what stings even worse. Especially since a lot people here consider Carnival to be a subpar cruise line or the "Walmart" of cruising.. Even sailing on their oldest ship at the time, I dont believe that is true. I hear Guys burgers are really good. I watched his family cruise on Breeze on tv and they were making them. They looked delicious. Edited April 4, 2014 by ryano
