Tell me some great things about the Conquest

We were switched from the Freedom next year to the Conquest. We know there is no Serenity, Cucina, Bonsai, which we love, but I'm looking to hear what you've loved about the Conquest. I know Freedom wouldn't have all of those things either and reviews are all over (as they have been for all of the ships we've sailed) but just looking for some positive feedback on this post.

Ah, Conquest...

I sailed on her last month. She's a nice ship, in good repair. The crew obviously cares for her. She's Funship 2.0, which means extra food choices and exotic drinks and beers. She's easily the gaudiest Carnival ship I've seen, with blown glass 'tulip' light fixtures in pastel colors all over the place. She has the traditional MDR menus, so you won't be irritated or disappointed by American Table/Feast.

I *liked* her. She wasn't my favorite ship (Victory gets my vote for that, purely because of the excellence of her staff) but it was a GOOD cruise. I'll probably get on her again in the near future.

Happy sailing!

Loved to the Conquest! We sailed on her in March. Didn't go to the shows but really wasn't thrilled with playlist production shows we have seen on other ships. Staff in the main dining room were fantastic. Room Steward was one of the best we have had. We did go to the Steak House one night and that was awesome. Really can't comment on the CD to the point I could not even tell you his name. The décor reminded us of the Liberty. We had a great week on a beautiful ship.

That's great to hear! We enjoyed the Liberty. I hope to hear good things about food, staff, casino, adult pool area mostly. We tend to not make it to shows and have a Lido balcony just inside the doors port side, which is our favorite location.

We have sailed on the Conquest twice and absolutely loved both of those cruises. We haven't been on her since the upgrades, so I'm sure she is even more wonderful than she was when we sailed on her.

Although the ship you sail on is a concern, the ports you will visit are even more important. Good planning will make your cruise very enjoyable.

Happy Cruising!

These are great things to hear! I always plan our port days but love to enjoy the ship as well. We always go with a positive attitude and don't look for little things to complain about. We treat the staff great and have always gotten the same in return.

Keep the great Conquest comments coming! Thanks to all who post and I'm glad to see there are others who have also been switched to this ship rather than picking it for themselves. Hopefully we can all get a little more excited hearing some good things from real people :D

We are sailing on her at the end of the month. I will take plenty of pics and post them when we return. Our ports are Half moon Cay, Grand Turk, San Juan and St. Thomas. We have been to HMC, GT and St. Thomas many of times. Only to San Juan once. We really enjoy HMC and Grand Turk.

Sailed her last December. Wonderful MDR staff - we had YTD and asked for Assimee every night after the first night, she was fantastic. Loved the Alchemy Bar and Jovanna. DH won a little in the casino on the last night. Cabin was great (L-shaped on Upper Deck), comics were great and ports were great. Didn't go to piano bar as we usually do because we weren't impressed, but otherwise had a fantastic time.

If you haven't already, be sure to check out my Conquest review (link in my signature). DH and I cruised on her in January. My review is very detailed and has tons of pics. I really liked to decor of the Monet Dining Room. Very pretty and my favorite MDR thus far. I also loved the mosaic art of a funnel on the Lido deck. The biggest bummer, of course, was no Serenity Deck. But other than that, she's a great ship!

Sailed on the Conquest on a b2b2b for 3 weeks this past December and loved it! The MDR was great. Cabin stewards were really good and never a problem (switched cabin 3 times so had 3 different stewards).

There was a really good band, Government Shutdown was the name, playing at the bar outside of the casino. Loved listening to them before dinner.

The CD, Gary Brierley, was not very good IMHO. His staff was great though.

The deck party wasn't much of a party, was suppose to be games, free gifts and fun. In reality, there were no games, the free gifts were plastic whistles and the only thing the party consisted of was line dancing.

If you like trivia then there is lots of that...several times a day.

The shows are the new playlist productions and we did not attend them because seen them all on the Breeze and didn't care for them enough to put myself through having to watch them again. The Hasbro game show was the main entertainment in the main theater 2 different nights during the week.

Personally, I love the Aft Pool, it is adults only in the hot tubs and pool. The area surrounding it is not adult only but we rarely seen kids there. I much prefer it over the Serenity decks that do not have pools. It also is a covered pool if it is raining which makes it nice and if sunny then they open the covering.

The food was very good on the Conquest, a lot better than we had on the Breeze the time before.

Over all, great ship, great crew. Would sail on her again.

I too am following this thread.

While I do have a cruise booked on the Freedom in November, I am always thinking towards next year, next cruise, and since my favorite departure port is Pt Everglades/Ft Lauderdale, naturally I am interested in the Conquest also.

When Galveston got the Conquest after Katrina wiped out NOLA we didn't appreciate the gift we received for a few years. That was a mistake.

Our first trip aboard resulted in three more, and all were fantastic. Wished she was still in New Orleans, we'd make an extended vacation.

Your pictures are amazing! A testament to why I can't function unless I have a cruise booked, lol. It looks like the Conquest may not help our addiction either :D

Does the Conquest still have fish and chips with the 2.0 upgrades? Last time on her was in 2011 out of Galveston. Wonderful cruise...miss having that ship in Gal!

I want to do an Eastern or southern Caribbean this/next year and would love to go there on the Conquest. Haven't sailed from Ft. Lauderdale before.

Yes, wife and I just returned Sunday. Fish and Chips is still there, but if you didn't know it was there you'd miss it, as it's almost hidden away in the back of the ship a floor above inside the cafeteria.

As for the Conquest itself, the staff was wonderful. Our room steward was the best, our dining room servers were very good, although the lack of bar service there was disheartening, we ALWAYS ended up ordering our drinks through our server, because the bar server never came to our table until it was time to sign the tab.

Our only complaint was the lack of use of the lounges and such. Music was in the casino, lobby and by the pool. But if you just wanted to chill in a lounge with some good music without the sounds of the casino, wandering people laughing and carrying on, or the pool guests, you were out of luck. The Casino bar doesn't have the best seating arrangement for listening to music, as most of the seating is on the sofas to the sides stretching down the Promenade hallway.

We went to the piano bar one night but only stayed a few songs, every song was slow and sad. Not the party, sing-along, type piano bar experiences we have had on other ships. And the lounge was so dark it almost always looked closed/empty, you had to purposely look in just to notice there was someone at the piano.

We also have seen all the production shows, so we chose to find other activities rather than see them again. Mostly the comedy shows. Wife is not a late night person, so the family friendly comedy times worked perfect or us.

This was our first 2.0 cruise, and the Guy's Burger joint burgers are awesome. I think I had one everyday. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Ah, the Conquest. My first (so far my only) cruise. What a fabulous time! We sailed on her when she was still based in NOLA (We live near Austin, TX), and everything about the trip was fabulous. The CD, Cory Rodgers, was HILARIOUS. Great cruise ship. The public spaces are a bit overdone, but not to the point of gaudy. Belize is a fabulous port. Make sure to eat tons of Guy's Burgers and look for all the little hidden gems of artwork on the ship. Hope you have a fabulous cruise! :) :D
