Anybody have experience taking train or whatever it is from Vanc airport to Canada Place? My research indicated its a straight shot, takes less than 30" and costs $9/pp.

A few years ago DH and I took the SkyTrain from the airport to the Pan Pacific Hotel at the waterfront. It was easy:

Once through customs & immigration, walk toward the exit toward the International Arrivals Greeting Area. Exit the building following signs marked Canada Line. Before the parking entrance, an escalator &/or elevator will take you up to the Canada Line platform.

There is a minimal gap between platform & train so luggage rolls on easily. Only problem is there is a very tiny lip only noticeable if you push your luggage on. The train aisles & doors are quite wide. The walk to Canada Place from the waterfront station is about 5 minutes. Use escalators up to street level instead of long hallway walk.

Get off at the “Waterfront Station.” Look for the elevator right on the Waterfront station platform marked "GRANVILLE STREET" (don’t use tunnel). This exits you to corner of West Pender & Granville. From here, it's a slightly downhill walk for 3 blocks. It's actually shorter & downhill vs. taking the tunnel off the platform & exiting through the Waterfront Station. When you get to the street level, do a 180 turn… that is Hastings Street. Cross Hastings & go left. When you get to the next intersection, you'll be at Hastings & Howe. Turn right & go slightly downhill. The Pan Pacific is at the next corner. It's about a 5 min walk.

We just took Skytrain on Thursday. Yes 9.00 CAD, 25 minutes

The ticket machines accept Debit/Charge cards as well as Canadian currency. The ticket machines are pretty strait forward, just purchase a 2 zone ticket to go to the Waterfront station next to Canada Place.

We used their SkyTrain last summer to go to Canada Place and it was great. When exiting baggage claim go across the street and up to the boarding area. We used a credit card to purchase tickets and at the end walked downhill about 2 blocks to the terminal. We were very happy with our experience & would definitely do it again in the future. :)

I've taken the Sky Train to downtown hotels (a couple of stops away from Canada Place).

A little difficult when you are toting luggage.

Be sure to get on the correct train. There are 2 that go downtown, but only one to Canada Place.

Cost has an addition airport fee built in when leaving the airport.

Did you mean to say "less than 30 minutes"?

A little clarity is needed regarding the trains... the train doesn't go to Canada Place but does go to Waterfront Centre which is about a block and a half from Canada Place. All the trains that leave the airport go to Waterfront and yes, there is an added airport fee when paying cash at the airport ticket dispensers. It's an easy walk from Waterfront to Canada Place. If you can manage your luggage through an airport, I'd say you can manage your luggage from the train station. The ride is approximately 25 minutes. However, if you are expecting to see some of the city on the ride, unfortunately you won't as the majority of the line is underground.

No city tour needed.....been there done that! Just need to get to the ship and "North to Alaska"!

Last summer we flew in the morning of sailing using Princess Air on a nonstop flight from LAX. Just in case our luggage got misdirected we put on our Princess tags. They never arrived on the luggage carousel at YVR and fortunately found a Princess rep in the baggage claim area. She said they "probably" went directly to the ship but had no way to confirm it. We began to doubt that information however just before sailing they arrived at our cabin.

Thus if you put on your Princess luggage tags before your flight they may go directly to the ship even though you didn't pay to have it done & are going independently on the SkyTrain to the pier.

We didn't put our tags on until we got to YVR. DH said hi to the Princess rep in the Vancouver and told him we were going on the Island Princess that day. We were directed to put our tags on our bags and take them to a counter with other luggage being transferred to the ship, although we hadn't purchased Princess transfers and were taking the train. We were a bit doubtful, but the opportunity to take the train without three suitcases was one we couldn't pass up. Our luggage was delivered to our cabin about an hour after we got on the ship.

On the return, we pulled our bags up the block and a half or so to the train station. We used the elevators and had no trouble even with three large bags and two rolling carry ons.

IIRC, our only issue was on the return in getting to the correct station, but there were plenty of transit reps around to ask.

We did this last week, and it was easy as pie, with everyone here having the correct information. The only other thing I would like to add is that there is lots of walking involved. The Vancouver airport is quite spacious and beautiful, and at least for us it was quite a long distance from our gate to the Sky Train, and again a walk from the Waterfront station to Canada Place (especially since a local guided us out the wrong way  ) Anyway, we love to walk so it was fun for us, but those with mobility issues might find all of this to be overwhelming.

Yes, the Skytrain will take you from the airport to Waterfront Station. Very easy, but I think there is one transfer that you need to make. Back before the Olympics, it used to be a pain in the butt to get to / from airport / downtown but now its super quick, cheap and easy. Walk out the waterfront station and boom you're there at the foot of the Pan Pacific Hotel and Canada Place.

Last summer from YVR to Waterfront Station it did not require a transfer & was a great way for us to get to the ship.

There is only a transfer if one accidentally boards the Train marked "Richmond-Brighouse" rather then boarding the "YVR Airport" train. If you do accidentally board the wrong train, just hop off at the "Bridgeport" station (River Rock Hotel & Casino) and wait for the next train.

What about all your luggage??? Is there room for all our luggage on the train???

We arrived at YVR the morning of the cruise so put our Princess tags on our checked luggage. They did not arrive on the luggage carousel & the Princess rep at the airport said they probably were taken directly to the ship even though we didn't pay for it.

Thus we only had two wheeled carry-on bags but as I recall it wouldn't have been a problem even if we had our two larger wheeled checked bags. Departing from the airport I'm sure that luggage was a consideration when they designed the SkyTrain.

Yes there is room for luggage - the trains on this run were designed for this type of travel - lots of room for luggage and bicycles as well.

I think ScottB has some photos of the inside of the car that will give you an indication of the space for luggage.

Hope this helps

Cheers!

Dennis
