Mariner status from sailing on Princess?

I was just reading another thread where it said if you sailed on a sister line you would get credit and have one star on your card you get when you check in for the cruise. I've sailed on Princess a number of times but this will be my first cruise on HAL. When I go to look at my Mariner status on the HAL website it shows that I don't have any because I've never sailed with HAL.

Do I indeed get some kind of reciprocal status for my Princess cruises and, if so, how do I ensure that HAL is aware of it?

I know there won't be a ton of benefits to being the lowest level of the Mariner status, but it would be better than nothing!

Thanks in advance!

None that I know of. I sailed Princess 3 times before giving HAL a try, but was not a Star Mariner with HAL until I finished that first HAL cruise.

Not with Princess.

Each line has different parent companies.

Holland, Princess and Carnival (plus a few others) are all owned by Carnival Inc. Thus you should get a one star and be able to go to the Mariner Lunch. Ask your TA about this.

Quite right. You get the one star status due to being "in the family" but your Princess cruises don't count in your mariner status. Basically you are one star with no cruises.

When my companion was in this position, I think I just called my TA and asked her to call HAL to tell them.

From the HAL website:-

2. HOW DO I JOIN THE PROGRAM? DO I NEED TO REGISTER?

No registration is required. All Mariners (past guests of Holland America Line) are enrolled automatically and will receive benefits starting with their second cruise. Guests who have sailed aboard a "World's Leading Cruise Lines" ship (Carnival Cruise Lines, Princess Cruises, Cunard Line, Seabourn or Costa Cruises) are also automatically enrolled in the program as a Star Mariner after they make their first booking with Holland America Line.

Terms and Conditions Holland America Line's Mariner Society Rewards Program (the "Program") is operated by Holland America Line ("HAL"). HAL reserves the right to modify or terminate the Program, or to change the Terms & Conditions of participation and benefits of the Program, in whole or in part, at any time with or without notice. Membership may be terminated at HAL's sole discretion for anyone appearing to be utilizing the Program in a manner inconsistent with its terms, conditions or intent. To qualify as a member of the Program, you must have taken at least one qualifying HAL cruise or have sailed with one of the World’s Leading Cruise Lines: Carnival Cruise Lines, Princess Cruises, Cunard Line, Seabourn or Costa Cruises. These guests are automatically enrolled as a Star Mariner when they make their first booking with Holland America Line because of their affiliation with the World’s Leading Cruise Lines. Program level accrual is based on the number of eligible credits ("Cruise Day credits") earned per individual; Cruise Day credits are awarded for eligible cruise days and qualified onboard purchases (net of returns), and bonuses when available. Subsequent Star levels are calculated on qualifying days and onboard spending on Holland America Line ships only. Holland America Line guests are eligible for Two-Star Mariner membership after 30 Cruise Day credits; Three-Star after 75 Cruise Day credits; Four-Star after 200 Cruise Day credits; Five-Star after 500 Cruise Day credits. Qualifying cruises exclude certain reduced cruise fares (i.e., Employee, vendor rates, etc.) and other cruises as designated by HAL at its sole discretion. All questions or disputes regarding the eligibility for the Program or provision of benefits will be resolved by HAL at its sole discretion. HAL will not be liable for refunds or for damages resulting from failure to deliver any of the Program benefits. Each Program member shall be responsible for advising the Mariner Society of contact information changes, and HAL shall have no liability for misdirected mail, or any consequences thereof. Other terms and conditions apply. Offer void where prohibited by law.

If I remember correctly prior to booking our first HAL cruise, I called the HAL Mariner folks and told them I had cruised on Princess. I gave them our Captains Circle # and they set up our HAL account and gave me our new Mariner #'s. If you have a spouse each of you will have a different HAL number unlike Princess. You are considered a 1 star Mariner at that point.

A 1 star doesn't get you a lot but you do get invited to the Mariners Brunch/Lunch which is very nice and you also get a delft "tile" which make great coasters.

Just curious. Should I book online like I plan and then call HAL up to tell them I have been on a Princess cruise? or should I call and book with a person on the phone?

THanks!!

When we booked our first HAL cruise it was through our TA. I followed up with HAL after we were booked via email.

I believe it is Royal Caribbean and Celebrity that give their customers recognition across the lines--but not the Carnival related ships or I would be up there due to Carnival/Princess/HAL sailings.

the only benefit I see in being a One-Star Mariner is the lunch in the dining room on embarcation day?

My husband is a Ruby Princess cruiser--should I get him a one-star mariner recognition for our upcoming cruise?

There's also the brunch at which you get the tile.

If you're already a Mariner, there's relatively little point because in practice I think you can take him both to the embarkation lunch and the tile brunch with you. But it doesn't take long to get it sorted out, either.

We won't be aboard ship for the embarkation lunch, but I assume the brunch is on a sea day. If he doesn't need the recognition to attend, I won't bother.

Any idea what day the brunch would be--we only have two sea days on a 12 day cruise.

We are Platinum with Princess and Gold with Cunard. Sent an e-mail to HAL to advise them of this with our HAL reservation code and Princess and Cunard membership numbers and we were given 1* status, for what it is worth, within 24 hours.

My point exactly. None of it will count toward your Mariner status.

Thanks everyone! It was actually the embarkation lunch that I was reading about on another thread and was hoping to be able to attend (I just don't like the buffet that first day.) Based on your responses I was able to get my 1* status added and I'm all set! :)

Thanks for this thread and all the input. I recently booked on HAL for the first time, and wondered how I already had one star for Mariner status despite having zero cruise days, and now I realize it was by virtue of my previous sailing with Princess. (I guess I could have actually read their fine print, but you all are more fun!) :)

A good cruise for me is if i don't have to set foot in the lido. Have a great cruise!

Hi Guys, so I called HAL and asked about the whole previous Princess cruise and getting one star before we sail with them and she just seemed to keep saying "days don't count". I told her I know that but she just kept repeating it. So my question is where under your account online do you see that you have one star?? Thanks!

When you login under your account, it should show up right at the top of the page where it says "WELCOME * JOHN". It is right above the star.

You can also try clicking on My MARINER STATUS on the left side of the page.

Yes, as I'm familiarizing myself with the Mariner system as well, it was a little confusing for me at first. As DaveOKC says look for the Mariner star logo near your name (at the top of the page and elsewhere, where it says "Welcome * [name]"). The number of teeny tiny stars arrayed above it indicates star level. One star looks like this...

Best,

I have spoken to 3 HAL people, one being my PCC and all of them say I will not get a star till I have finished my first cruise. Being with princess means nothing. So at this point I feel like I'm missing something. :s

Go to the HAL website, click on Booked Guests, then on Mariner Society Learn More. Under Faq's click on How do I join and it addresses becoming a star mariner if you have sailed on Princess and the other lines owned by Carnival Corp.

Did this. I actually emailed the Society and quoted the page in it. They too, like the PCC, just copy and pasted the page for one star. Guess I'm just not getting this. I emailed them back, repasted the quote from the FAQ and said "so what does this mean" see if they reply.
